he Senior Project Manager is responsible for the developing, managing, and administering capital funded design and construction of projects of the infrastructure and capital project development department for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans). 

The Bus Infrastructure and Capital Projects Department oversees the delivery of major bus fleet and facilities infrastructure projects for SamTrans. The department’s projects include design and construction of zero emission infrastructure (battery electric bus (BEB) charging infrastructure and hydrogen fuel cell electric bus (FCEB) infrastructure) for SamTrans's revenue and non­revenue fleet of nearly 400 vehicles, sea level rise and flood mitigation structures, bus administration, transportation, and maintenance buildings, and other structures at SamTrans' North Base and South Base Maintenance Facilities. 

 

 

 

Essential Functions & Duties

• Responsible for overall management of scope, schedule, budget, and quality of assigned capital projects from initiation to closeout. 
• Manage projects through design, procurement, and construction. 
• Manage consultant and in-house staff in formal reviews of design submittals, including engineering drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and construction schedules. 
• Oversee construction contract to ensure compliance with contract requirements. 
• Manage coordination and communications with all stakeholders, obtain input, collaborate, and build consensus. 
• Represent SamTrans at Board, Commission, Council, and Community Meetings. 
• Responsible for the selection, management and ultimate successful delivery of vendors, contractors, and other professional services for infrastructure projects. 
• Manage consultants and professional level staff outside of the agency. Ensure District DBE, SBE and other labor compliance policies are followed. 

Examples of Essential Duties:

• Present project status at regular review meetings. 
• Review cost estimates, monitor project schedules and budgets, monitor work in progress, approve, authorize, negotiate and execute contract changes, consultant invoices and process payments. 
• Oversee Consultants and Construction Management Staff during construction. 
• Prepare work directives to engage design consultants and oversee design work. 
• Responsible for handover of completed project to systems integration and operations staff. 
• Investigate, negotiate and resolve project issues. 
• Identify root cause of issues, determine and present appropriate solutions. 
• Coordinate and collaborate closely with SamTrans project stakeholders.
• Manage coordination, communications and expectations with project stakeholders, and internal cross-functional teams responsible for different aspects of planning, design, and engineering
• Provide support for federal and state grant applications for funding of SamTrans infrastructure projects.
• Support development of contract solicitations.
• Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies during project implementation, and ensure compliance with their administrative guidelines.
• Develop, negotiate, and monitor contracts and cooperative agreements with other governmental agencies, private consultants, and private contractors.
• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking an effective and skilled communicator, and highly motivated problem solver for the position of Principal Transportation Engineer/Planner.  This management position reports directly to the Transportation and Traffic Manager in the Public Works Department and will be responsible for:  assisting with planning, organizing and coordinating the activities of the Division of Transportation and Traffic; and perform professional traffic engineering, transportation planning, designing, and project management.

This position will supervise a small team within the Division to accomplish specific tasks and high-level, community-oriented projects. Current projects include: East Channel Trail study; Mary Avenue Overcrossing over highways 101 and 237; Bernardo Avenue railroad undercrossing; Sunnyvale Avenue and Mary Avenue railroad grade separations, liaison with the County for the Lawrence Grade Separation project; and coordinating with VTA as part of the delivering Measure B transportation projects. The position will manage multiple consultant contracts and will be expected to coordinate and work closely with other staff within the Division and with staff within other departments such as Public Works, Community Development, Environmental Services, and Public Safety, and represent the City with outside agencies such as the Valley Transportation Authority, Caltrain, High Speed Rail, Caltrans, MTC, County of Santa Clara, and adjacent cities.

The position will focus on advancing the projects mentioned above, assist with oversight of the design and traffic signal operations, implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS); assist with the coordination of Division of Transportation and Traffic activities with other divisions and departments; oversee and assist with oversight of the grant application preparation, reporting, and management for transportation projects; assist with planning and coordinating division workload and budgets; creating and sustaining cooperative and collaborative working relationships across the City, with the development community, and residents; attend and present at public meetings/City Commissions; and provide assistance with highly complex traffic engineering work. Quality Assurance Group: 
The QA Group supports all capital improvement programs for the Division during planning, design, procurement, construction and closeout phases of highway, rail, transit and facilities projects.  As a Senior Transportation Engineer, you will play an important role in ensuring delivery of quality products and services for the Division. It is the responsibility of the QA Group to ensure the development of each project’s Contract-specific Quality Management Plan (CQMP) and to conduct audits and surveillances, based on the approved CQMPs, to monitor and assure effective implementation. The Maintenance Division is located in the City's Corporation Yard.

18-week training program that teaches basic technical and job-readiness skills to prepare participants for a IAM Local 1414 Registered Apprenticeship for the Automotive Mechanic, Machinist, Auto Body Painter, or Body and Fender Repairer. The 18-week program includes eighteen (18) weeks of free academic training through City College of San Francisco, as well as nine (9) weeks paid on-the-job experience. All equipment and uniforms are provided by the program. First nine (9) weeks of program at CCSF Evans Campus 8 am-4 pm Mon-Thurs. (unpaid)

Second nine (9) weeks 1/2 day class, four (4) hours at CCSF Evans Campus, and four hours a day, four days a week for nine weeks (paid) On-The-Job training.

Under immediate supervision, the 9940 Pre-Apprentice Automotive Mechanic performs semi-skilled trainee work designed to introduce career options and role models in connection with the operation, maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles. As part of a Pre-Apprenticeship program, incumbents learn about the work environment, required skilled mechanical work, and real-life experience to help them find employment as an apprentice and eventually as a journey mechanic. During the assessment process, the rater(s) will not have access to your name, application, or resume. You are solely evaluated on your supplemental responses, so please be as detailed as possible. 
• The eligibility list for hire will be determined by the supplemental questions. 
• Additional testing, such a written, oral panel interviews, and department-level interviews may occur.
• Applicants seeking Veteran’s Preference must submit form DD214 with the application.
