THE POSITION

The City of Dublin is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of PLANS EXAMINER I/II to perform detailed, comprehensive technical reviews of residential and commercial permit applications and building plans.  The incumbent performs a full range of plans examination duties to ensure projects and structures are in compliance with laws, ordinances, codes and regulations before permits are issued.  The position serves as a resource to the City’s Permit Technicians who determine required plans and resolve problems regarding plan submissions and sufficiency. 

The PLANS EXAMINER I position is distinguished from the PLANS EXAMINER II level in that the PLANS EXAMINER II performs more complex technical reviews of commercial plan checks, structural reviews; and performs supervisory authority over assigned staff, including directing and training.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The following key elements describe the basic duties and responsibilities of the position:

PLANS EXAMINER I:

• Perform plan checks for residential alterations, room additions and tenant improvements.  Reviews building construction plans for compliance with building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, green building, accessibility and health and safety codes. 
• Confer with homeowners, builders, engineers and architects to provide and obtain information and interpret building codes and regulations; recommend necessary changes to obtain compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
• Provides input and assists in the establishment and/or improvement of Division’s procedures and policies;
• Verifies that permit application and plans meet the minimum requirement of all applicable codes, state and local regulations.
• May perform routine building inspection assignments in support of inspection staff.
• Prepare correspondence to architects, engineers, contractors and homeowners relating to the correction of plans and details.  Communicates verbally, in writing, by e-mail and by telephone with the general public, other City employees, contractors in order to explain and administer the various building codes.
• Properly interpret building codes, plans, specifications, and engineering calculations.  Regularly research code questions for interpretation.
• Review and perform mathematical calculations to determine appropriate fees.
• Perform research, analysis and evaluation of site, architectural and related plans.
• Strong commitment to customer service and interactive team participations.
• Provide support to permit processing and public counter activities.

PLANS EXAMINER II (In addition to the above):

• Reviews building construction plans for compliance with structural design requirements and building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, green building, accessibility and health and safety codes.  Examples of reviews can include: residential additions, complex tenant improvements, HVAC roof top equipment, monument signs, etc.
• Handle the full-range of plan check duties including screening and preliminary review, and is responsible for independent decisions requiring technical judgement and public relations skills. 
• May assume the responsibility for supervision of plan check and permitting functions in the absence of the Plan Check Engineer.
• Participate in the development and implementation of the Division’s policies.
• As assigned, perform on-site inspections as follow-up to plan activities.
• Resolve disputes between the City and designers.
• Attends and represents the Building & Safety Division at Pre-Development and other meetings.
• Evaluate the written qualifications of Special Inspection firms for inclusion into the City’s list of pre-qualified special inspections firms.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking to fill 16 full-time Maintenance Assistant positions.

The Maintenance Assistant total salary range is $24.74 to $31.56 hourly or $51,459.20 to $65,644.80 annually . The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

The Infrastructure Maintenance Division of DOT is looking to fill 16 full-time vacant positions. These positions perform work in the maintenance and repair of concrete, pavement, sewers, landscaping, traffic signs, and traffic markings. Duties include digging holes, trenches, and ditches. They also operate a wide range of hand, mechanical, and power tools, as well as a variety of light and heavy vehicles, trucks, and equipment relevant to work performed, ensuring compliance with safe working practices. Maintenance crews provide services seven days a week. Individuals in this classification may be required to work alternate work shifts, including grave and swing, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call.

Minimum Qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the community services, business administration, or a related field.

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience coordinating community services programs including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.

THE POSITION

Under supervision of the Public Works Manager, the Maintenance Worker I performs entry level unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled labor in construction, maintenance, and related service activities applied to the areas of general landscaping, grounds maintenance and street maintenance.

 TYPICAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Grounds Maintenance:  Operate mowers and other equipment and tools for purposes of cutting grass, trimming trees and shrubs, and planting and transplanting flowers, bulbs, shrubs, and trees.
• Storm Prevention Maintenance:  Assist in cleaning ditches, culverts, and storm drains.
• Street Maintenance: Assist in repainting of pavement markings, basic pothole, and street repair; installation and repair of street signs and markers; mixing and application of Class III pesticide materials.
• Vehicle/Equipment Maintenance:  Assist in the care, maintenance and cleaning of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• General:  Contact residents concerning maintenance and service problems; refer complaints and requests to proper supervisory personnel. Assist supervisory personnel in preparing and maintaining proper records and logs. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS

The general knowledge of basic construction methods, materials and terminology, standard hand tools, light equipment, and light vehicles; general knowledge of basic safety precautions and practices necessary in working with hand tools, light equipment, and vehicles; general knowledge of basic methods and practices involved in the care of shrubs, trees and flowers. Ability to learn technically complex construction and maintenance procedures in water systems, streets, parks and building maintenance; use hand and power tools; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under inclement weather conditions; work alone or with small groups.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid California driver's license and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving history.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Completion of high school or its equivalent, or completion of a trade or vocational school.  Some directly related experience is desirable.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Monthly Salary: $4,855 to $6,269 per month. Placement within the range will be based upon the selected candidate’s experience and salary history.
• Health/Medical Benefit: Health/Medical Benefit: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. In lieu of medical coverage, the City will contribute $400 (employee only coverage) or $500 (employee + 1 coverage) or $600 (family coverage) in cash or a pre-tax contribution into a MissionSquare Retirement 457 deferred compensation plan.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at the forthcoming state-of-the-art aquatic and recreation facility set to open in Summer 2024. The brand-new 49,360 sq ft facility will feature indoor and outdoor lap pools, a zero-entry wading pool, fitness amenities, a gymnasium, a walking track, and ample space for programming and rentals. 

The successful candidate for the Aquatics and Fitness opening will be responsible for professional recreation duties, encompassing the planning, organization, coordination, and supervision of aquatics and fitness programs at the facility. We are seeking candidates with substantial experience in Aquatics and Fitness, and preference will be given to those holding certifications such as AFO, CPO, LGI, WSI, or other relevant Aquatics and Fitness Certifications.

The ideal candidate for the Programs, Classes, and Events opening will assume responsibility for professional recreation duties, encompassing the planning, organization, and supervision of contract and in-house recreation programs, classes, and camps, and the permitting of external special events. The supervisor will also have oversight of youth and adult sports leagues, enrichment classes for youth and adults, and other programs within the Recreation division. The position provides technical and functional supervision for the Recreation Services Coordinators assigned to these programs.

Responsibilities of the Recreation Services Supervisor include, but are not limited to:

•    Managing and supervising assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; planning and organizing workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff and volunteers; reviews progress and directs and implements changes as needed.

•    Providing leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans; gathering, interpreting, and preparing data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinating department activities with other departments and agencies as needed.

•    Providing professional advice to supervisors; making presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public.

•    Communicating official plans, policies and procedures to staff and the general public.

•    Assuring that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performing cost control activities; monitoring revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; preparing annual budget requests; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.

•    Preparing for publication a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding recreation programs.

Requirements

In addition to graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, social work, gerontology, public administration or another closely related field of study – the candidate will also have three (3) years related paid recreation work experience at a level comparable to Recreation Services Coordinator or similar position with significant experience in the implementation of recreation and human services program or activities. 

Additionally, the candidate should possess a valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain one, and may be required to obtain and maintain a Class B driver’s license. First Aid, American Red Cross Lifeguard  Instructor, CPR, and other specialized certifications may be required based on supervisory assignment.

The City of Patterson is seeking to fill one (1) part-time vacancy for a Facility Attendant in the Recreation Department and to establish an eligibility list.

Duties include, but are not limited to: under direct supervision, performs a variety of facility related tasks to ensure effective operations at the Recreation and Community Services Complex and related facilities and parks. The City of San Rafael Library and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the position of Facilities Attendant (two part-time/temporary positions available).  This position provides customer service to renters and program participants while assisting with the supervision of front counter/reception area, set up and breakdown equipment for scheduled activities, custodial and cleaning including but not limited to emptying trash, vacuuming, cleaning windows, cleaning restrooms, etc.; opening and securing facility before and after building use and interacting with instructors, clients, and the general public.  Bilingual in Spanish is desired.
