The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for an Extra– Help Building Maintenance Technician I/II in the Administrative Services Department. This class is flexibly staffed up to the II-level. The Building Maintenance Technician I under close supervision, learns, assists and performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, construction and repair work on County facilities as well as learns County and departmental policies and procedures. As experience is gained assignments become more complex and are performed under more general supervision. This is the entry level in the building and grounds maintenance series. This class is flexibly staffed with Building Maintenance Technician II and incumbents may advance to the II-level after gaining experience, demonstrating proficiency, and meeting the qualifications for the II-level. Building Maintenance Technician II is the journey-level in the building and grounds maintenance series.

The Buildings and Grounds division of the Administrative Services Department provides Building Maintenance and Custodial services to county facilities. The City of Rocklin is now accepting applications for Building Division Supervisor. This position works within the Community Development Department and provides supervision over assigned building inspection staff; performs complex combination inspections of residential, commercial and industrial building sites to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and codes; performs plan checks on a variety of construction and modification projects; provides a variety of information to property owners, developers, architects, engineers and contractors; and assists with the administrative duties of the division. 

This is the advanced journey, supervisory level class in the building inspection class series.  Incumbents direct the work of building staff while personally performing the more complex, difficult or controversial work. The incumbent operates with considerable autonomy and is expected to perform duties and make decisions with a high degree of independence. The class is distinguished from the Building Inspector II position in that the latter performs routine plan reviews and/or inspections and does not supervise staff.

The Public Works Department is seeking to fill a vacant Facility Attendant position. This position is responsible for performing work of routine difficulty in a variety of custodial duties, minor maintenance work, and set-ups in preparation for events, meetings and other functions located at City Hall and other City Facilities such as Community Centers, Parks and Libraries. This position will be reporting to the Supervisor of Trades with lead direction from the Senior Facility Attendant.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• • Performs custodial work such as sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, and waxing floors, as well as vacuuming, dusting, graffiti removal and washing windows.
  • Sets up equipment and platforms for events.
  • Arranges chairs, tables, and other furniture for both city and public meetings, banquets, dances, dinners, and other events according to charts, plans, and oral instructions.
  • Reads, interprets, and carries out written instructions to set up and arrange furniture and equipment for events.
  • Monitors on going events and provides any needed set-up or maintenance support.
  • Assists with maintaining outside grounds of City Hall to include cleaning sidewalks, storm drains, entries and stairwells.
  • Operates a variety of motorized equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts.
  • Performs minor maintenance checks on vehicles such as forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts.
  • Performs minor repairs on equipment, furniture, plumbing fixtures, and other objects as needed.
  • Assist in the set-up of stages for productions according to specified plans.
  • Sets up public address systems and sound systems.
  • Monitors and completes various assigned work orders using work management system software.
  • Tracks schedules and set-up requirements for meetings and events using Event Management System software.
  • Inspects Libraries, Community Centers, Police Dept Facilities and other City buildings for housekeeping and minor maintenance issues.
  • Assists with cubicle and office moves at city hall to include the moving and lifting of file cabinets, desks and other office furniture.
  • Assists with replacing burnt out bulbs.
  • Assists with removal of City owned surplus items.
  • Ability to lift heavy weights from 20 to 80 lbs.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays and swing shifts.

The Position

The City of Orinda Planning Department is seeking a strong, customer-service oriented Planning Technician, for a limited-term, to primarily staff the Planning Counter and process code-enforcement cases. Depending on experience, the successful candidate may also gain opportunities to assist with various current and long-range planning tasks. This non-exempt position will report to the Director of Planning.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• A 4-year bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field;
• Equivalent to two-years of college, supplemented by at least two years of job experience or training in the planning or a planning-related field; or
• Four years of planning and building administrative support experience.

Other Qualifications Required:

• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and an occupational medical pre-employment physical exam which includes a pre-employment drug screen.
• Ability to work in a standard office environment including ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and lift 30 pounds as well as ability travel to different sites and locations.

Typical Functions

• Staffs the Planning Counter to assist the public, conduct plan checks, collect and process forms, and file permit applications and plans.
• Responds to email, telephone, and counter inquiries regarding the municipal code, entitlements, and the City’s development policies and procedures.
• Conducts field work, including Planning Final Inspections, site visits, and code-enforcement.
• Receives, investigates, and monitors requests to investigate alleged violations of the municipal codes and other complaints.
• Coordinates and conducts abatement procedures, including preparing correspondence, coordination with other agencies (Contra Costa County Building Division, Moraga-Orinda Fire District, etc.).
• Processes applications for a hillside-grading permit, elevated-deck permit, exception permit, tree-removal permit, and other “minor” discretionary projects.
• Assists staff in collecting and preparing data for various planning projects and provides support at community meetings as necessary.
• Researches and prepares routine graphic displays/exhibits for use by the Department, Planning Commission, and City Council.
• Drafts reports of limited or variable complexity.

GENERAL PURPOSE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Secure city facilities as assigned

• Polish metal work fixtures

Rental Duties:

• Perform required set-up for assigned activity

The Department of Public Works is seeking to fill one vacant Overstrength Sr. Facilities Repair Worker position. This position is a temporary, benefited position, with a standard 40 hours per week with an end date of June 30, 2020. 

The Sr. Facilities Repair Worker position will be working between the Central Service Yard and the Environmental Innovation Center (EIC). Under general supervision by the Preventative Maintenance Program Manager, the Sr. Facilities Repair Worker will perform a wide variety of semi-skilled work in the repair of buildings and equipment at the Environmental Innovation Center.

This position will be stationed at the Central Service Yard with a secondary office at the EIC where most of the time will be spent. In addition to the typical duties of a Sr. Facilities Repair Worker, the successful candidate will provide constant communication and customer service for three tenant groups operating out of the EIC and will have the ability to manage the maintenance and operational needs of the groups with a fixed budget. The position requires flexibility and may oversee other Facility Repair Workers from time to time as well as occasionally needing to respond to afterhours alarms from the facility. 

Other duties of this position include but are not limited to:

 - Schedules and manages the work of contractors engaged in the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities. Reviews and approves payments. 

- Leads and performs minor repair on buildings caused by vandalism and normal wear, including patching, spot painting, floor tile repair and replacement, glass replacement, water leaks and valve replacement, and other minor plumbing and trades related building maintenance tasks. 

- Prepares work orders for major repair and alterations and monitors progress and completion of projects. 

- Prepares reports on materials, labor, and cost or damage caused by users in order to recover cost. 

- Maintains records of repair equipment. 

- Coordinates the use of shared space and events by the building users to ensure the meeting rooms are properly setup.

- Leads, repairs, and maintains equipment in the facility, including audio/visual equipment in the meeting rooms, waterless toilets, tables, chairs, cubicles, and other environmental innovation features that may be installed in the facility.
