Program Assistant - Receptionist

Salary Range: $16.00 - $26.50/hour, depending on experience.

DEFINITION

Perform a wide variety of general clerical and/or operational support duties at the Danville Community Center and Senior Center, such as serve as a receptionist, operate a telephone system and assist/direct callers and visitors according to established procedures.

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position.
• 10-20 hours per week; not-to-exceed 950 hours per calendar year.

SUPERVISION

General supervision is received from the Administrative Secretary with indirect supervision from the Program Supervisor. May exercise supervision of part-time personnel and volunteers as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:

• Deal directly with the public and internal staff.
• Provide information to the walk-in public.
• Provide support for program/class registrations and facility reservations.
• Assist at the Danville Senior Center front desk as needed.
• Provide administrative support on special projects, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to handle multiple tasks, have strong computer skills and excellent customer service skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule throughout the year.

Knowledge of:

• Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Modern office methods, procedures and equipment, including office automation hardware and software.
• File management.
• Word processing (Microsoft Word) and data processing systems, including Microsoft Outlook.

Ability to:

• Have attention to detail and accuracy.
• Maintain a welcoming environment in busy office.
• Complete tasks in a timely fashion.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

One (1) year of experience performing standard clerical and secretarial duties. Prior experience as a receptionist in a related field preferred.

Education:

The equivalent of the successful completion of the twelfth grade; some college experience preferred.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Aquatic Instructors (Swim Instructors) and Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs and the upcoming summer season to work at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center for Summer 2021. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working with children and wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! Swimming experience is desired. Swim Instructor training will be provided once hired. Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an interview either in person, or via ZOOM. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

• Applicants should be able to work at least 25- 40 hrs from May 20 – August 15, 2021, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings.

• Please note that shift preference is not guaranteed and is based on the program's staffing needs and can change at any time. Please keep this in mind when/if you plan to attend summer school or take summer college classes.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

THE POSITION

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required.

Upon satisfactory completion of probationary period, a Recruit is promoted to the rank of Firefighter, with all benefits entitled.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Under supervision, performs general firefighter duties including, but not limited to:  response to alarms; fire suppression; lifesaving and rescue; vehicle extrication; salvage operations; hazardous materials; emergency medical care; mutual aid assistance; maintenance / inspection / testing of fire fighting equipment; maintenance of  fire station and grounds; participates in required training programs; fire prevention and public education programs; waterway and rescue boat operations; participation in support of the Fire Departments’ various programs provided to residents of Suisun City.

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking to fill Seasonal Defensible Space Inspector positions (multiple positions available).  The shifts for these positions will vary and are based on the assignments.  Shifts will average 8-10 hours per day/4-5 days per week.  These are temporary/seasonal positions and will receive NO City paid benefits. 

Under supervision, Seasonal Defensible Space Inspectors perform a wide variety of fire prevention duties.  This is a great opportunity to gain hands on experience working for one of the finest fire departments in the State.  Defensible Space Inspectors are temporary positions for staffing during the peak wildland fire season (for 3-6 months in duration).  Defensible Space Inspectors are expected to do sub-professional work in fire prevention or other related work.     

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform defensible space inspections in accordance with San Rafael Municipal Code 4.12.
• Performs WUI and other Vegetation Hazard Inspections.
• Investigates public and referred public agency complaints.
• Increase awareness, knowledge and actions implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires, such as defensible space and other fuels, reduction activities, fire prevention and fire safe building standards.
• Reviews, evaluates, processes, and maintains a variety of files related to fire prevention activities.
• Attends on occasion a variety of continuing education classes, seminars, and/or meetings; remain current on applicable codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Knowledge of:

• Principles, practices and techniques of fire prevention.
• Fire prevention codes regulations.
• Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards
• Understanding and the ability to utilize the City Municipal Code
• Principles and techniques of fire inspection work is desirable
• English grammar, spelling, vocabulary, letter and report writing
• City’s computer hardware and software program.
• Window’s, Microsoft Office, Apple products such as iPhones and iPads, City Trakit Software, Emergency Reporting Systems, ArcGIS Collector App.

Ability To:

• Work effectively in small teams or independently for extended periods of time.
• Read and interpret complex technical documents such as maps, diagrams, and textbooks.
• Perform basic mathematical calculations.

• Stay abreast of fire prevention services, policies and procedures.
• Work effectively with the public and representatives of other City Departments and agencies.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with stake holders to ensure that assigned fire prevention coordination efforts are successful.

• In accordance with State legal requirements, applicants must be at least 18 years old by the application filing deadline.
• Completion of twelfth (12th) grade and any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.
• MUST possess and maintain a Valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• Possession of one or more of the following is desirable:

1. A background in customer service or public service
2. Completion of CA State Fire Marshal 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 2B, & 2C courses
3. ICC Certification Fire 77, CA, CF, & CP

The City of Dixon is preparing for the opening of the Pat Granucci Aquatic Center and needs qualified Lifeguard/ Swim Instructor I/II applicants.

The City of Dixon strives to keep staff and guests safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lifeguards will be expected to perform rescues and first aid with modifications for COVID-19.

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Senior Lifeguard/Swim Instructor, Lifeguard/Swim Instructor performs a variety of duties to ensure the City of Dixon swimming pool is a safe and enjoyable aquatic facility. Supervises pool patrons, enforces pool rules, performs first aid and emergency rescues, instructs swim lessons, performs cashiering duties, leads recreational activities; performs related and other work as required.

This position is subject to random controlled substance testing and/or breath alcohol testing.

This is a NEW program within the Marysville Fire Department.  The Marysville Fire Department is hiring continuously for twelve (12) Firefighter Reserves.  These positions will be funded for four (4) years through the SAFER Grant.  

For each 24 hour shift worked, you will receive $60 for food and mileage, that will be paid monthly in accordance with the City of Marysville's established pay schedule.

THE POSITION:
The purpose of this program is to augment full-time staffing in the City of Lincoln Firefighting program, but mostly the intent is to provide opportunity to develop the skills and abilities necessary for a candidate to gain employment in the fire services industry. The non-sworn Reserve Firefighter will gain the valuable work experience needed to obtain the California State Firefighter I certification. The City of Lincoln will benefit from producing well trained reservists who assist the department with the gained skills, knowledge and abilities. The Reserve Firefighter will receive on-going training.
