THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Pacifica is a beautiful coastal community just south of San Francisco with an exciting opportunity. We are currently hiring for a Maintenance Worker I to fill one vacancy with our Parks Division Teams. Under general supervision, this position will perform semi-skilled maintenance and repairs of City streets, sanitary sewers, storm drains, park and recreation landscaped areas, and other related work.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance-related duties involving manual labor of facilities, parks, storm drains, streets, etc.
• Repair irrigation systems, tools, recreation, and maintenance equipment
• Operate various motorized equipment such as  a tractor, gang mower, power mower, and other equipment
• Plants, waters, mows, prunes, sprays, and maintains hedges, lawns, trees, flowers and shrubs
• Maintains parks, restrooms, and common spaces. 

Willing to assist in these areas:

• Participates in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, curbs, gutters, sewers, storm drains, catch basins, barricades, sidewalks, parks, landscaped areas, and recreation equipment and facilities;
• Pours and finishes concrete;
• Operates cleaning equipment;
• Cleans out catch-basins and other storm-related preventive maintenance and removes litter from parks and other facilities;
• Operates compressors and pneumatic tools;
• Operates and makes minor repairs and adjustments to heavy power-driven equipment;
• Constructs forms for and does cement work;
• Performs brick work and building construction and maintenance work;
• Builds retaining walls;

• Applies, tamps and rakes asphalt and related street construction and maintenance tasks;
• Repairs and replaces sewer and storm drainage pipe
• Performs basic carpentry, painting, plumbing and pipe-fitting work;
• Performs excavations and shoring for CCTV and underground utilities
• Performs street traffic control and sign painting which may include inventory,
• Operates storm water pumps
• May assist in purchasing

PART TIME AND TEMPORARY assignment assisting Code Enforcement. This assignment expires at the end of December 2026 OR UNTIL ARPA FUNDS RUN OUT -whichever occurs first.

SCHEDULE WILL BE TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY FROM 6:00AM TO 4:30PM. 

Summary Description

Under immediate supervision performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work assigned to the streets division; operates maintenance and construction tools and equipment; performs a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the entry level class in the Street Maintenance Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Street Maintenance Operator II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Handle complaints and answer questions from the public.
2. Remove blight and illegal dumps from city property such as parks, right of ways, roadways, alleys, walkways, sidewalks and refuse disposal. 
3. Remove debris, shrubbery, brush, trash, tires, appliances, electronics, and miscellaneous items.
4. Make minor adjustments on service equipment; maintain tools and equipment in working order.
5. Abates graffiti.
6. Maintain logs of daily activities.
7. Assist in other areas as needed.
8. Perform related duties as required.
9. Repair and replace street surfaces, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters including back filling trenches and evacuations.
10. Perform the maintenance, repair, construction, and installation work of streets, storm drain, parking lots, street lights, traffic striping, and traffic control signs and signals.
11. Remove hazards from the roadway and other public rights of way.
12. Operate a variety of motorized equipment and specialized maintenance equipment.
13. Perform repaving, patching, overlaying, chuck hole, and crack sealing repair of asphalt.
14. Perform underground service alert locating, marking and notification.
15. Lay out and install traffic signs and pavement markings.
16. Repair and maintain storm drain lift stations.
17. Conduct traffic count surveys.
18. Maintain storm detention ponds, including cleaning, repairing, and spraying weeds.
19. Respond to hazardous materials spills.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Participating in the development and administration of the City’s annual budget; monitoring expenditures; preparing long range financial forecasts; and supervising mid-year budget reviews.
• Planning, directing, and participating in audits of City finances; performing the technical duties of Treasurer; managing City cash and assessment district investments; and overseeing the preparation of quarterly investment, redevelopment, and other financial reports.
• Preparing and managing the department budget; forecasting staffing, material, and supply needs; presenting and defending departmental programs and expenditures; monitoring expenditures; and implementing budget adjustments as needed.
• Serving as a resource to City staff, department personnel, and external organizations by coordinating information, resources, and collaborative efforts that support a productive and positive work environment.
• Attending professional and community meetings; remaining current on developments in municipal finance and administrative services; fostering a customer-service oriented culture; and responding to sensitive and complex inquiries and concerns.
• Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with community representatives, business organizations, governmental agencies, and City staff.

The Manager, Grants & Fund Programming is responsible for developing short and long-range bus and rail capital/operating program funding strategies. The Manager, Grants & Funding Programming will manage the development of a robust transportation grant program to support projects, programs, and services; serve as the agency representative on local and regional fund programming forums; and provide expert advice on funding and grant matters for SamTrans, the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (PCJPB) and Transit Authority (TA).

Salary Range: Five (5) Steps: $35.47 - $43.12/ hour; $6,148 - $7,474 / month (effective 6/27/26)

Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of journey-level skilled maintenance and limited construction of the District’s buildings, park amenities, playgrounds and community pools; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspects assigned facilities for deficiencies and safety-related issues.
• Performs rough and finish carpentry; installs and repairs fascia, siding, roof and wall members, cabinetry and office furniture, doors, jambs and hardware.          
• Performs minor to moderate roofing repairs using underlayment, sheet metal, tile and composite materials.
• Repairs and installs plumbing systems, which may include copper, galvanized steel, plastic or cast iron; installs, repairs, maintains and adjusts commercial plumbing fixtures.
• Performs electrical installation, repairs and maintenance such as indoor and outdoor light fixtures, new circuitry, contactors, ballasts/drivers, lighting control and fixture upgrades, sub-panels, sport lighting controls and facility lighting timers.
• From drawings, sketches or oral instructions, alters, repairs and constructs improvements in materials such as wood, metal, plastics, concrete and masonry.
• Designs and fabricates various parts from a variety of construction materials.
• Operates torch, plasma cutter, grinder and welding equipment to cut or join metal parts such as fences, gates, bollards and benches.
• Installs, maintains and repairs heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and equipment, as needed.
• Painting of interior and exterior surfaces.
• Repairs and installs various flooring materials.
• Inspects, maintains and repairs aquatic equipment including pool circulating and boost pumps, sensors, controllers, filters, boilers, chemical feed pumps and feed lines.
• Installs, maintains and repairs play structures, swings, electronic features and related equipment.
• Operates trucks, tractors and other special equipment, including aerial lift to heights of sixty feet.
• Weekend work and rotating schedules may be required.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED equivalent and four years of related work experience performing building, facility and pool maintenance and repair, with a specialty in at least two building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and mainten­ance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and corres­pondence. Ability to speak effectively with other District employees, patrons and vendors.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses: 

• Certified Pool Operator.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.

Facilities Management Unit (Position Code 751) 
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. This position provides key support to the Senior Accountant and plays an important role in maintaining the City’s financial integrity through accurate recordkeeping, reporting, and analysis.

What You’ll Do
Under general direction, the Accountant performs a variety of professional-level accounting duties in support of the City’s financial operations. Key responsibilities include:

• Performing day-to-day accounting functions, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger review
• Supporting accounts payable and payroll processing to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Reviewing financial transactions for proper coding and available budget
• Preparing financial reports, summaries, and supporting documentation
• Assisting with budget monitoring, expenditure tracking, and fiscal analysis
• Participating in the file preparation of required State and Federal financial reports
• Assisting with audits, special projects, and process improvements
• Maintaining and reconciling fixed asset records, including depreciation tracking

• Salary range: $22.86 to $29.20 hourly with Excellent Benefits.
  • 3% Cost of Living adjustment increase effective 7/13/26
  • 3% Cost of Living adjustment increase effective 7/12/27
    • Generally, salary placement is at the beginning of the salary range.
    • Advanced placement may be granted depending on related education and experience.

    • NOTE: The City recently completed a compensation study comparing its salary ranges with those of other local agencies. As a result, 87% of salary ranges will be adjusted upward at various intervals. As ranges are adjusted, job postings will be updated to reflect these changes.

• Full-time regular position
• Schedule consists of a 4/10 typically working Tuesday through Friday.

                           MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training:

• Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Experience:

• Two years of general maintenance experience performing field maintenance work within the assigned area of responsibility.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Class A driver license within one year (Landscape or Streets) of employment.

The Housing Authority is seeking an exceptional, team-oriented candidate to oversee projects and initiatives in support of the Alameda Housing Authority (AHA)’s affordable housing development and neighborhood revitalization programs in the City. This may include new construction development, acquisition and rehabilitation of properties, and development for projects for AHA’s nonprofit development affiliate, Island City Development. AHA’s pipeline of multifamily projects includes serving family, homeless, workforce, and senior populations and managing major renovation of occupied properties within AHA’s portfolio. The Senior Project Manager will also manage a wide range of consultant relationships and may supervise one or more junior staff.

AHA is particularly interested in applications from candidates with a strong track record in successful management of affordable real estate development and housing new construction, and familiarity with various related federal, state, and local regulations. Desirable candidates will be knowledgeable about zoning and environmental regulations 
related to affordable development, experienced with development and administration of consultants and contracts, and have experience with public, private and non-profit affordable housing funding sources such as the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, Project based Section 8 and Tax-exempt bonds.

This is an exempt, at-will position. The Authority operates on a 9/72-hour biweekly schedule and is closed every other Friday.
