Position Description

The District has one regular, full-time opening for the position of Automotive Mechanic II in the Facilities & Watershed Division. Interested persons must submit a completed District application and Supplemental Questionnaire to the Human Resources Department .

Definition

Under general supervision, performs service and repair work on a variety of District vehicles and gasoline and diesel-powered equipment; and to do related work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is a journey-level position that requires a broad spectrum of experience in the diagnosis and repair of automotive vehicles and equipment. Incumbents in this class perform the full range of vehicle and equipment service and repair work from oil and lubricant changes, engine overhauls, tune-ups, smog checks, to the repair of mobile construction equipment and small gasoline powered equipment. Incumbents are expected to train workers, apply safety regulations to work assignments, and prepare and maintain written documents using a computer.

Examples of Duties

Typical duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Performs major overhauls on engines, transmissions, transfer cases and differentials for all types of District vehicles and equipment;

• Keeps current of new technology and practices and maintain certifications as required;

• Inspects, diagnoses and repairs automobiles, trucks and related equipment;

• Adjusts and repairs brakes, alternators, starters and other automotive parts;

• Diagnoses and repairs cooling system problems;

• Performs motor tune-ups, replacing or repairing parts as necessary;

• Provides road service, changing flat tires, hoses or other parts as needed;

• Performs minor repairs to gas tanks, radiators and other parts;

• Logs designated vehicle and equipment service and repairs into computer-based fleet maintenance system;

• Monitors and maintains inventory and stock for auto parts, tools and equipment;

• Maintains and repairs cranes and other heavy equipment;

• Diagnoses, repairs, and overhauls hydraulic pumps, valves and cylinders;

• Performs repairs to small equipment, including gas powered pumps, concrete and chain saws, paving equipment, and weed eaters;

• Services, lubricates and changes oil on a variety of vehicles and equipment;

• Washes and steams cleans vehicles;

• Utilizes diagnostic programs and performs smog tests;

• Follows applicable federal, state, local and District safety rules, regulations, policies and guidelines at the worksite to ensure the safety of others and the District’s vehicle fleet and equipment.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Building Maintenance Technician—HVAC in the Administrative Services Department. Currently, the employment list created from this recruitment may also be used to fill Extra-Help vacancies. This position reports directly to the Building and Grounds Supervisor. This class is distinguished from Senior Building Maintenance Technician due to the heavy emphasis on maintaining a variety of heating, refrigerating, and air conditioning units throughout the County requiring specialized knowledge, abilities, and training beyond what is required of other classes in the building and grounds maintenance series including the certification necessary to maintain and repair HVAC systems.

Using Measure AA and other funding sources, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) delivers multiple facilities projects annually to fulfill commitments made to the public regarding greater access and outdoor education, protected open space lands, and resource restoration.  Midpen is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor to manage maintenance and improvements of buildings and facilities for the staff and public. Responsibilities of the position include:  the maintenance and operations of the Midpen’s administrative office, project work on District staff field offices and facilities (such as rental residences, water supply systems, as well as public buildings such as the Midpen’s David Daniels Nature Center).  Work will include both permitting and contracting for services as well as supervising and overseeing District staff work. The candidate should be an organized, creative, and collaborative self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills, who enjoys working in a group dynamic. 

About the Position:  The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor manages and performs all aspects of facilities maintenance for the Administrative Office Facilities, including building operation, landscaped grounds, parking areas, and various physical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, telephone wiring, and security systems. The incumbent is also responsible for non-routine repairs and improvements at Midpen Field facilities. The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for performing, developing, executing and managing maintenance, repair or minor improvement projects utilizing contractors and is assigned supervision of Midpen staff, for a wide variety of duties including maintenance, trades work, and administrative work. Successful performance of work requires significant knowledge of a broad range of facility maintenance management and technical principles, an extensive professional background as well as skill in coordinating work with that of other Midpen departments.  Candidates with background in facilities management and construction trades are desirable. Work Environment:  This position is part of the Land and Facilities Services Department at the Midpen offices in Los Altos, California and will work primarily in an office environment, but may occasionally work in field environments. When conducting field assignments, work may include traversing rough, difficult terrain in inclement or hot weather with exposure to poison oak.  Duties will include building and facility work that will require climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.  Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of conditions, as well as in an office environment. Positions in this classification must possess the ability to lift and carry materials and objects weighing up to 60 pounds and must possess the ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds, with the use of proper equipment. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:  Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:  Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, facilities management, construction project management, or a related field, and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in facilities or construction management with at least two years in a lead or supervisorial position preferably in parks, open space, or a related field.

Licenses & Certifications Required:   Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

The City of Rocklin is looking for a part-time Senior Maintenance Worker to assist in the Landscape Division of the Public Services Department. The work schedule will be based on the needs of the department working no more than 28 hours per week, not to exceed 999 hours in a fiscal year (July 1st through June 30th).  This is a temporary at-will position and does not offer benefits.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Worker, performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance of parks, grounds, trees, recreational facilities, public grounds, storm sewers, sidewalks, medians, street signs and markings, and repair and upkeep of streets. Operates maintenance and construction equipment; and does related work as required.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: The following statements are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all inclusive for specific positions.

• Performs or learns to perform a variety of parks and streets maintenance tasks including watering, mowing, edging, weeding, spraying, trimming, pruning, planting and removing flowers, plants, trees and turf.
• Maintenance and reconstruction of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, pavement, and pavement markings.
• Assists with the installation of park, street and recreation as it relates to facility maintenance.
• Operates or is trained to operate park and street maintenance equipment and motor vehicles such as dump trucks, water trucks, backhoes/loaders, forklifts, sprayers, chippers, power mowers, edgers, hand tools, rollers, asphalt breakers, airless and air operated paint machines, air compressors, generators, hand tools and related equipment.
• Performs routine maintenance work in the care of tools and supplies.
• Assists with the installation and maintenance of traffic control and informational devices.
• May be required to work weekends or holidays or in the event of emergencies.
• Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE OF: Uses and purposes of various hand tools employed in basic laboring; safety precautions and practices necessary in working with hand tools and heavy equipment; the operation and maintenance of a variety of light and heavy equipment.

SKILL AND ABILITY TO: Perform routine maintenance activities related to park, street or facility maintenance; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work with the variety of tools related to maintenance; learn to operate a variety of maintenance equipment; and perform heavy manual labor.; work indoors or outdoors under adverse weather conditions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND GENERAL WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing maintenance activities, the Maintenance Worker is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; lift and/or move 80 lbs. Heavy physical indoor or outdoor work is required during the course of a normal maintenance work day. Work in inclement weather is also required. Work on holidays, weekends, and nights may be required.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Any combination of the listed experience and education requirements may lead to a qualifying application. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• One year of related experience in public works maintenance and/or construction work is related but not required
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record

COMPENSATION:
This is a part-time, temporary position. Approximately 20 hours per week.
$22.00 to $27.00 hourly DOE

The City matches this 3.75% for a total contribution of 7.5% of your gross compensation per pay period.

Experience and Training

Experience:

• Two years of increasingly responsible experience performing parks and facilities, tree care, creek, preserve or natural resource maintenance duties.

Training:

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade GED, or higher level degree; additional course work and training in maintenance, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, natural resource management or related field is highly desirable.

License or Certificate

• Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license by date of application. 
• Possession of CPR and First Aid certificates within six (6) months of hire.

Necessary Special Requirement 

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
