The City of Newark's Recreation and Community Services Department is excited to announce an excellent opportunity for motivated and skilled professionals to join our team as a Recreation Coordinator. This key role involves coordinating and implementing a variety of recreation and human services programs and events, including sports, fitness, aquatics, and adult and youth development activities. The Recreation Coordinator will also supervise temporary and volunteer staff, and perform a variety of clerical support services.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. 
• Additional education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of one year.

Experience:

• Three (3) years experience in recreation, community services, or related field.

License:

• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
• Possession of valid certificates in Lifeguarding, CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED and Emergency Oxygen are highly desirable.

Special Requirements:

• Position will require working occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.

Under general direction of the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager plans, organizes, manages and provides direction for Finance activities including cash management, financial analysis, accounts payable and receivable, grants management, payroll and benefit administration, and financial reporting; performs difficult and complex professional and technical finance work related to the processing of financial transactions and preparing and reconciling financial and accounting records and reporting; ensures regulatory compliance with governmental accounting standards; maintains and improves the accounting system; provides highly complex and responsible support to the Director of Finance in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required.

Under general direction of the Director of Finance, the Assistant Director of Finance plans, organizes, manages, and provides direction and oversight for all Finance activities including budgeting, treasury, cash management, financial analysis, accounts payable and receivable, grants management, payroll and benefits administration, debt management, and financial reporting; implements internal financial controls and generally accepted accounting principles and procedures; coordinates assigned activities with other Alameda CTC departments and outside agencies; provides highly responsible and complex professional assistance to the Director of Finance in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required.

The Department

The Community Services Department strives to improve the health, wellness and quality of life for Fremont residents by offering a wide variety of exceptional educational and recreational programs and services, historic and cultural resources, facilities, unique attractions, special events, park use and urban forestry.

The Position

The Senior Landscape Architect will plan, supervise, and review the work of City Landscape Architect staff. The incumbent will: coordinate and oversee various landscape projects; perform professional landscape architect work in conjunction with the design and preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for the development and rehabilitation of parks, landscaped areas and street beautification projects; inspect and review the work of developers and consultants for conformance with plans, specifications, and City requirements; prepare and administer grants and give professional advice on landscape matters.

Examples of Job Duties

• Organize and oversee the landscape design and layout of parks, recreational areas, roadway medians and pedestrian ways.
• Plan, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of professional City and contract staff.
• Perform professional landscape architectural work including preparing landscape plans, coordinating master plan development, performing park planning, and preparing related specifications, contracts, and cost estimates.
• Recommend design direction on high-profile urban design of public and private projects that impact landscape design and urban projects within the City.
