DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker I is distinguished from Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker II in that the Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker II level requires a higher level of certification and is able to perform a broader range of duties more independently.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED 

Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff in assigned department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below are illustrative only and are not meant to be a full and exhaustive listing of all of the duties and responsibilities of the position.

• Maintains and repairs pumps, motors, plumbing, electrical, and exercise and lubricate machinery within the plant; records and maintains accurate maintenance records in a daily log book;
• Orders supplies and materials; orders inventory of frequently used parts, oil, and filters for equipment used in the plant;
• Completes monthly work orders and enters information regarding maintenance tasks into the system; records SCADA; records hours on equipment and meters; makes entries into the end of the month report and prints work order summary;
• Generates new maintenance work orders for each month; prioritizes tasks to be performed on Water Pollution Control Plant equipment;
• Performs cleanup of the plant, removing trash, washing down decks, and clearing leaves and branches from storm drains; cleans tools and makes sure equipment is in proper locations and power tools are in safe working condition;
• Changes oil and filters on various pumps and compressors in the plant; maintains safety inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and ladders in the plant;
• Removes and replaces packing from various pumps in the plant; installs new rings of packing with new Lantern rings if damaged; applies grease to the new set of packing for proper lubrication; removes corrosion or debris from packing gland before reinstalling;
• Evaluates pump performance and flow rate to determine if pump has excessive buildup of rags that is affecting its performance and efficiency; shuts down pumps to remove rags from impeller and clears any obstructions;
• Replaces damaged parts/fittings on leaking chemical feed pumps; makes alterations to existing supply tubing or fittings, replacing clamps or O-rings, or removing debris caught in the check valves; inspects, tests, calibrates, adjusts, cleans, and paints equipment in the water pollution control plant; and
• Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Principles, practices, and techniques of the installation, maintenance, and repair of water treatment plan systems; operation of various hand and power tools; proper procedures to safely perform maintenance on machinery and equipment in the plant; maintenance for MP2 program; recording and updating repair history on water pollution control plant equipment; how to create new work orders and close out completed work orders; forklift operations and scissor lift; replacing, repairing, and installing piping, fittings, and valves on water pollution control equipment; data entry of important, vital information regarding maintenance repairs; performance and evaluation on future preventative maintenance in the WPCP MP2 program; proper protective equipment.

Ability to: Drive and operate vehicles and equipment safely; keep inventory, order, and stock necessary parts and supplies for the maintenance shop; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; adhere to prescribed policies, procedures, routines, and practices; carry out assignments with minimal instructions; read and understand written instructions, maps, equipment operation manuals, and other written documents associated with the work; effectively schedule work; effectively keep written records.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Technical training in a water treatment plant system or related field is desirable.

Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of pollution control plant and sewage pumping facilities.

Licenses: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license, obtain and maintain a California Class B Driver’s License, and a satisfactory driving record. CWEA Certification as a Grade I Mechanical Technologist.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Respond to work at any hour of the day or night, within designated timeframe, as required during afterhours, weekend service, and/or emergency situations; carry communication equipment in order to respond after work hours. Vision, hearing, and physical ability adequate to obtain and maintain a California Class B Driver’s License; speak clearly and understandably. Requires moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion including bending, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, lifting, twisting, digging, carrying, and/or handling material weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds. Work in confined spaces and wear protective equipment. May work in conditions that require exposure to noise, odors, chemical and biological agents, gases, and contact with sanitary wastewater; work at heights up to 20 feet; work in varying temperatures of cold and heat, and in inclement weather for extended periods of time; work in conditions that may contain dust, mold, and various chemicals.

The City of San Bruno Public Library is currently recruiting for a part-time, temporary Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor. Candidates must be able to commit from January 2026 to June 2026, for 17 hours per week and availability Monday 2-6PM, Tuesday 2-6PM, Wednesday 1-6PM and Thursday 2-6PM (with the exception of Library and San Bruno Park School District holidays). Although this is a six-month position, the program is ongoing. Under the direction of the Library Services Manager, the Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the Library's after-school Homework Center, including classroom management, homework help, supervising and training volunteers, collaborating with library staff, and maintaining
accurate records of homework center attendance. The incumbent will be responsible for
maintaining a welcoming place for students to do their homework effectively within the larger context of the library, and for planning STEAM weekly activities and training/supervising students in the use of the 3-D printer. The homework center is a free, drop-in, after-school program for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The Position
Utility Workers perform a variety of manual tasks such as building and grounds maintenance, minor equipment repair, and transportation of materials, and supplies in a locked facility.
 
As part of their duties, Utilities Workers assist the skilled trade workers including painters, carpenters, and engineers. Other duties include, but are not limited to: operating and maintaining equipment or hand tools used in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and facilities; assembling, maintaining, and repairing equipment and furniture; providing complete custodial services to areas such as medical examination rooms, public restrooms, and lobbies; utilizing the assistance of and instructing incarcerated individuals, clients, or other staff to perform work; ordering and receiving supplies, tools, and equipment; delivering supplies to appropriate areas; digging holes, cleaning-out gutters or storm drains, and disposing of debris; operating a car, van, or light delivery vehicle to transport materials; operating and maintaining power tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment; and performing related duties as assigned.

The Facilities Maintenance & Operations Redwood City section is responsible for the operation, maintenance, installation and repair of machinery and equipment in County operated buildings. This includes HVAC systems, boilers, lighting systems, refrigeration, generators, water treatment, and emergency power systems. It also includes crafts services such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and lock smithing services required to maintain County facilities. If hired into the Facilities Maintenance & Operations (FM&O) section, additional skills needed, and duties may include: 

• Identify weeds from plants.
• Work independently.
• Dig and set sign and fence posts.
• Attached signs to wood and/or metal posts.

Construction Services provides competitive professional crafts services beyond the scope of routine maintenance provided by the Facilities Operations and Maintenance section, and contracts with the County and Cities to provide carpentry, graffiti abatement, and lighting district services. Trades represented include electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting.  If hired into the Construction Services section, additional duties may be:

• Assist trades with painting, carpentry, light electrical, and clean-up of work site.
• Empty trash at offices and vacuum floors.
• Dig trenches or post holes on various projects.
• Handle small moving jobs for other departments.

Qualifications

Utility Worker I ($29.77- $37.22/Hourly) is the entry or trainee level class in this series. Initially, under close supervision, incumbents perform the more routine duties while receiving on-the-job instruction and gaining practical experience. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class.

Utility Worker II ($31.40- $39.25/Hourly) is the experienced journey level class in this series. Under general supervision, incumbents independently perform the full range of duties. All the positions are characterized by the presence of fairly clear guidelines from which to make decisions and the availability of supervision in non-routine circumstances. Incumbents should demonstrate a thorough knowledge of operations and procedures and the ability to independently accomplish day-to-day tasks under normal conditions and to instruct others.

Education and Experience:

• Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is: One year of experience providing building and facility maintenance and minor equipment repair.

Knowledge of:

• Methods, materials, operations, tools, and practices used in moving, loading, arranging, and transporting materials, records, and supplies.
• Principles and techniques used in basic custodial services and minor equipment repair.
• Fixtures, building hardware, and equipment.

The Human Resources Department is seeking well qualified candidates for the position of HRIM Departmental Systems Analyst.

The Departmental Systems Analyst (DSA) will provide complex analytical support for the adaptation of and enhancement to Workday, the County’s incorporated human resources information system.  There is currently one vacancy in the HRIM division of the Human Resources Department.

In general, the DSA will provide analytical and technical expertise to support the configuration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Workday Human Capital Management (HCM), Compensation, and Talent modules. The role serves as a key link between HR program areas, departmental users, and technical teams to ensure system functionality and data integrity and to ensure business processes effectively support departmental and organizational needs. 

The DSA will also: 

• Configure, maintain, and process negotiated compensation and classification changes such as cost-of-living adjustments, equity increases, and legislative updates within Workday.
• Administer and update job profiles, compensation plans, and related structures, supporting the Classification and Compensation program.
• Provide HCM support to departments during major workforce activities such as reorganizations, seasonal staffing, and fiscal year transitions.
• Coordinate regression testing and implement changes associated with bi-annual Workday updates in assigned functional areas.
• Prepare and distribute procedures, communications, and reports to support HR programs, system enhancements, and compliance initiatives.

The DSA must have knowledge of departmental operations and Workday system functionality, enabling effective communication between technical and non-technical staff. This includes the ability to translate business needs into system configurations to ensure that HR processes are accurately and efficiently supported.

• Strong analytical and technical skills with the ability to research, test, and configure system changes within Workday HCM, Compensation, and Talent.

• Three years of responsible experience in a position that would provide knowledge of department-specific programs, processes, and/or operations, including at least one year of experience in planning, implementation, oversight, and/or utilization of automated information systems and applications used to support departmental activities.

Knowledge of: 

• Principles, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, and applicable state and federal laws pertinent to assigned operational and/or program area.

Minimum Qualifications

Position Duties

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Transportation, the Information Technology (IT) Manager will plan, lead, manage, and execute the technology and innovation efforts of DOT.

The DOT Information Technology (IT) Manager will refine and manage the DOT information technology roadmap, which fuses departmental priorities and opportunities with technology and resource needs. The business plan includes coordination with the IT Department to assess centralized capabilities and opportunities for partnership and advancement of key strategies and systems. Some of the top priorities include:

Implementing innovative field technology improvements and integrated data systems – With the transportation and utility infrastructure spread across 178 square miles of the City, most of the Department’s work, particularly maintenance of the infrastructure, occurs in the field. With
the growth of advanced technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) the City has an opportunity to strategically deploy innovations that could save time and resources, as well as improve response times. The IT Manager will work with the IT Department, the City Manager’s Office, and other City Departments to lead the assessment of existing processes and systems to identify, develop, and implement automated workflows to improve efficiency and productivity.

Automating, updating, and supporting multiple IT Systems – DOT has a number of important IT needs and coordination efforts that are identified and prioritized in the DOT IT Business Plan. These projects include the maintenance and development of feature request applications in our Salesforce Work Order platform, updates to the Geographic Information System (GIS), and upgrades of various administrative and engineering databases.

Coordinating Civic Innovation – The DOT IT Manager will also play a lead role in planning and implementing DOT’s Civic Innovation Projects. The transportation industry is dramatically changing around us with the emergence of Automated Vehicles, highly advanced traffic signal management systems, and complex data reporting and analytics capabilities. In alignment with the San Jose’s technology vision and in coordination with the Mayor’s and City Manager’s Office, the DOT IT Manager will build upon current momentum to make San Jose one of the most innovative cities. The IT Manager supervises and/or coordinates staff in the Information Systems Analyst, Senior Geographic Systems Specialist, Systems Applications Programmer, Network Engineer, Innovation Program Manager, and Network Technician classifications.

Key General Responsibilities:

• Develops, coordinates, guides, and maintains IT system strategic and tactical plans in support of the department’s overall direction and within the framework of Citywide IT protocols and standards.
• Plans, implements, and manages the department’s information technology operations ensuring efficient utilization of resources.
• Collaborates and coordinates with IT and other departmental stakeholders to assess centralized capabilities, opportunities for partnership, and advancement of key strategies in a way that maximizes the interoperability of systems between DOT and other departments.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in computer science, information systems, business administration, or closely related field

Experience
Five (5) years of experience managing, maintaining, and implementing technology programs, computer system infrastructure and design, network operations, security design, application development and configurations, and system/server administration, including three (3) years of supervisory experience over a technical team.

Certifications/Licenses
One or more credentials in Salesforce is desired, preferably certification as a Salesforce Administrator and/or Developer.

Possession of a valid license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in California. The selected candidate will be enrolled in the Employer Pull Notice (EPN) program; an authorization for release of driver record information form must be signed as a condition of employment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The approved salary range for this position goes up to $183,248. Employees in the Department Information Technology (IT) Manager classification will also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay.

The actual salary will depend on the qualifications and experience of the individual selected. The City provides an array of benefits.

• Retirement – Competitive retirement system with full reciprocity with CalPERS.

• Health Insurance – The City contributes 100% towards the premium for the lowest cost plan. There are several plan options.

• Dental Insurance – The City contributes 100% of the premium of the
  lowest priced plan for dental coverage.

• Personal Time – Vacation is accrued initially at the rate of three weeks per year with amounts increasing up to five weeks after 15 years of service. Executive Leave of 48 hours is granted annually with the ability to earn up to 40 extra hours annually based on performance. Sick Leave is accrued at the rate of 8 hours per month.

• Holidays – The City observes 15 paid holidays annually.

• Experience with Remote Terminal Units (RTU’s), microprocessor based relays, Distributed Network Protocol (DNP), and ABB Network Manager – S (SPIDER) Energy Management Systems (EMS), VM Ware, virtualization, SAN/NAS storage, and IBM Blade Centers is highly desirable.
   
• Experience using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems is highly desirable and may be required depending upon assignment.

Other Requirements: 

• May be required to work unusual hours and weekends in the performance of their duties and  be available on an “on call” basis.

• Employees are required to pass initial and periodic comprehensive background checks, which may include fingerprinting, to meet Federal, State and/or industry security requirements.

• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.

Candidates must attain a passing score on each phase of the examination process to qualify for the Eligible List. A department interview may be required prior to appointment.
