Position: Laboratory Analyst I PDM

Salary: $42.82 ‐ $51.04/hr. (Dependent on Qualifications)

Hours: 24‐40 hours per week/flexible schedule

THE POSITION: The Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for a per diem laboratory analyst to perform a variety of physical, chemical, biological and bacteriological analyses of water and wastewater according to standard methods and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years of college study with at least twenty semester units of chemistry, biology or related science. A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related science would also be qualifying.
• One (1) year of work experience in an analytical laboratory.
• Able to work independently with direction from senior laboratory analyst/ laboratory supervisor

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Following established procedures, perform physical, chemical, and bacteriological analyses of water,
• wastewater, and related materials.
• Collect varied samples for analysis from specific locations according to a predetermined schedule; may collect special samples as conditions indicate.
• Compile and record onto standardized worksheets, logs, and forms, perform calculations and transfer data to database.
• Prepare chemicals, bacteriological media, and standard test solutions.
• Clean and maintain laboratory, equipment, and instruments.
• Maintain inventory of supplies.

 DEFINITION

Under supervision, performs sub-professional engineering office work related to Public Works improvements; elementary field surveying; computer-aided drafting and design work; and related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs a wide variety of responsible sub-professional engineering work; computes and posts simple engineering data; computer-aided drafting, design, and mapping; revises, reviews, files, and updates engineering plans and maps; assists field survey and traffic survey crews as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: The elementary principles of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; drafting symbols used in construction work; basic engineering office equipment; modern personal computers and related computer software; principles and practical application of computer-aided drafting, design, and mapping systems.

Ability to: Learn the use of surveying equipment and techniques; learn basic construction inspection procedures; accurately make and verify mathematical computations; perform neat and accurate drafting; collect engineering field data, and make field notes; maintain accurate records; effectively operate computer-aided drafting, design and mapping software; effectively use modern office software; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; work flexible hours; deal effectively and courteously with the public and general contractors; attend work and perform duties as assigned.

Experience: None required

Education: Completion of 45 semester college units with major in civil engineering or related course of study.

License: Possession of valid Class C California Driver's License.

MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT I

This is a temporary part-time position:  Approximately 20-40 hours per week depending on the needs of the department.

THE POSITION: Under close supervision, perform unskilled manual and semi-skilled manual park maintenance work, and perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

• Cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage cans
• Removing weeds and trash from parks
• Assist in mowing, edging, pruning, fertilizing, and seeding
• Perform a wide variety of general grounds and facility maintenance work including raking leaves, cleaning walkways, removing debris, cleaning restrooms, and related work.
• Water, weed, prune, renovate, and landscaped areas.
• Turf care including mowing, thatching, fertilizing, plugging, and installation of new turf areas.
• Prepare soil and plant flowerbeds, shrubs, and landscape areas, including staking, fertilizing and other necessary procedures.
• Utilize a wide variety of hand and power tools and landscape maintenance equipment.
• Move and install park and recreation equipment.
• Assist in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment, materials, debris, and other heavy objects related to maintenance.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent should have the ability to read, write, and carry out oral and written directions, maintain cooperative work relationships, and operate various park maintenance equipment. Individuals must possess a valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record (recent DMV printout required). This is seasonal work which will include weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the department.

Position: Program Leader I (Special Events)

Hours: 8-30 hours per week 

The City of Redwood City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department is looking for people interested in working approximately 15-20 hours per week, working the special events programs operated by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.  Incumbents will typically assist in setting up, monitoring, and breaking down the events all while providing excellent customer service to visitors.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Follow event plan and execute assigned duties effectively and efficiently; monitor or manage interactive recreation areas which may include, but are not limited to, arts and crafts, organized games, sports, drama, social recreation, and music/singing activities; supervise recreation participants insuring that proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities; maintain and care for equipment as appropriate to help promote recreation activities effectively; assist in organizing, promoting, and managing special events; assist in setting up, monitoring, and breaking down the events; report to supervisors orally and in writing; complete assigned paperwork such as timecards, attendance reports and/or incident and accident reports; perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The Program Leader I (Special Events) is responsible for presenting the service oriented, positive, and enthusiastic mission of the City of Redwood City.  The ideal candidate will enjoy promoting a variety of recreation activities.  The ideal candidate will also have the ability to multi-task, and demonstrate excellent leadership and customer service methods and practices.
