About the Adult Protective Services (APS) Program

APS is a state-mandated program responsible for investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation involving older adults and dependent adults. Abuse may include physical, financial, emotional, sexual abuse, neglect, isolation, or abandonment.

APS Social Worker IIIs conduct face-to-face home visits, complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments, develop service plans, and coordinate interventions across multiple systems. Investigations may be conducted in collaboration with law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, health care providers, and community partners.

The program is built on a foundation of client rights, empowerment, and person-centered practice, aiming to strengthen safety, reduce risk, and support clients’ ability to remain in the community whenever appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

This Social Worker III will:

• Respond to allegations of abuse throughout San Mateo County and complete thorough assessments of client strengths, risks, and needs.
• Conduct face-to-face home visits, psychosocial evaluations, and develop individualized service plans in alignment with state mandates.
• Collaborate closely with law enforcement, hospitals, behavioral health, community agencies, and informal support networks.
• Attend required APS state training and participate in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings to support coordinated care.
• Provide crisis intervention and implement a wide range of social work strategies aimed at mitigating risk.
• Assess need for services such as health care, in-home support, personal care, money management, substitute decision-making, or conservatorship.
• Prepare documentation and maintain accurate, timely case records across multiple information systems.
• Participate in quality improvement efforts and contribute to ongoing program development.

• A Master’s degree in Social Work.

The County of San Mateo's Sheriff's Office Forensic Laboratory, which is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board in both Testing and Calibration, is seeking to fill a Criminalist I/II position within its Forensic Biology and DNA Section, which includes participation in crime scene examination.

The Forensic Laboratory was constructed in March 2003 and is located in San Mateo, California. It is managed by a civilian Laboratory Director who is currently supported by three Supervising Criminalists, one Legal Office Services Supervisor, 28 Criminalists and interns, two Legal Office Specialists, and two Property Officers. The Criminalist will report to a Supervising Criminalist and will analyze evidence seized in the course of criminal investigations, providing laboratory analysis and expert witness testimony in the areas of serology and DNA analysis. They may participate in validation studies of new technology and methods for use in casework, cold case investigations, internal audits, and guiding our intern program. Also, on a rotational basis, they will respond with a partner to investigate crime scenes for homicides and officer involved critical incidents. The ideal candidate will:

• Be an experienced Forensic Biology/DNA analyst dedicated to staying abreast of changes within the forensic industry.
• Have experience in biological screening, DNA extraction, quantitation, amplification, and typing.
• Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or forensic science.
• Have successfully completed a minimum of 12 semester or equivalent credit hours from a combination of undergraduate or graduate coursework covering the subject areas of biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, statistics and/or population genetics.
• Have a minimum of three years of forensic DNA laboratory experience, which includes examining, collecting, and analyzing biological fluids, contact DNA, and other biological evidence collected from crime scenes.
• Be experienced in using a wide variety of equipment and instrumentation including alternate light sources, centrifuges, microscopes, DNA extraction robots, liquid handlers, thermal cyclers, and genetic analyzers.
• Have courtroom testimony experience.

Eligibility Specialist I:
The Eligibility Specialist I is the entry-level classification in the Eligibility Specialist series.  Incumbents may have prior experience determining eligibility for loans, financial assistance, unemployment or veterans benefits, or publicly or privately funded health, counseling or social services programs; have completed initial classroom training provided as part of the Eligibility Specialist Trainee training program; or may have the required level of education. Incumbents will work under close supervision while learning to independently determine public assistance eligibility, and apply knowledge and skills learned from their training in completing eligibility tasks and applying complex regulations. THE POSITION

Tri-City is looking for a special individual to serve as a Clinical Supervisor I/II within the Children’s Full-Service Partnership/Children and Transitional Age Youth (FSP/ C TAY).

• Coordinate, supervise, and direct the clinical, operational, and program activities of the unit on a day-to-day basis to meet objectives.
   

• Provide direct client services within the appropriate scope of practice.
   

• Guide and consult with staff and the Clinical Program Manager regarding Agency philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; make recommendations and implement updates to programmatic, clinical, and administrative policies.
   

• Supervise, train, evaluate, and participate in the selection of subordinate clinical and administrative staff, student interns, Mental Health Specialists, and Mental Health Workers; initiate and participate in personnel actions in accordance with Agency HR practices.
   

• Provide or arrange clinical supervision for licensed and unlicensed staff.
   

• Analyze caseloads, forecast resource needs, and review reports for accuracy and timely adjustments.
   

• Ensure compliance with mandated documentation, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements to maintain efficient and effective unit operations.
   

• Assist in the development and coordination of in-service training and staff development programs.
   

• May be required to transport clients using personal or Agency vehicles.
   

• Participate in on-call rotations and perform other duties as assigned.
