Class Characteristics
Deputy Director of Public Works – City Engineer is a Deputy Director level engineering classification responsible for overseeing the City’s engineering functions and performing a wide variety of engineering duties requiring independent judgement and initiative in prioritizing, scheduling, assigning and coordinating work. This class requires registration as a professional engineer. This class is distinguished from all other engineering classes by its supervisory and administrative responsibilities over a wide range of duties as well as the requirement to perform the more complex engineering and project management assignments. Assignments and projects may be long-term or may constitute a major portion of a continuous or comprehensive engineering or construction program. Supervision Received and Exercised:

The San Mateo County Controller's Office is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Application Support Analyst III.

The Controller’s Office

The mission of the Controller’s Office of San Mateo County is to promote the County's operational effectiveness and ensure its financial transparency and integrity by providing quality accounting, audit, and financial reporting services.
   
The Controller's Office maintains the County’s accounting system and records, and prepares independently audited, award-winning annual financial reports (ACFR and PAFR) that disclose the financial condition of the County to the public. We are staffed with 51 full-time accounting, audit, and information systems professionals. The office also calculates annual property tax bill amounts, distribute taxes collected to local government agencies, and performs internal audits of the County’s operations.
  
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Controller’s Information Systems (CIS) team to support various mission-critical applications for the County as they pertain to finance, expense reimbursements, timekeeping, as well as support Countywide system integrations.  
  
As an Application Support Analyst III, you will leverage your systems expertise to collaborate and consult with colleagues within the Controller’s Office and other County fiscal and/or technical staff and resolve issues related to the systems, improve business processes by recommending and implementing solutions within the systems, process requests such as report and integrations development, and maintain application security at both an authentication and application access level.  
  
This role will entail hands-on support, administration, configuration, and maintenance of multiple related financial systems, including Finance Enterprise by CentralSquare for general accounting, Coupa for accounts payable and vendor onboarding, and Workday Expense for employee expense reimbursements.  
 
While the ideal candidate has experience in all of these systems, we are also accepting candidates who have experience and expertise in at least one of the aforementioned systems but can demonstrate transferable skills to learn the other systems and applications.

• 5+ years of proven application support and administration experience, preferably in Finance Enterprise, Coupa, and/or Workday Expense.

What You’ll Do

The Senior Engineer supervises and participates in the conduct of complicated engineering planning, design, and investigation activities.

Some duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supervise and participate in the development of designs, plans, specifications, and estimates for the construction of public works projects related to the WWTP.
• Coordinate with contractors, construction managers, construction inspectors, and the design engineers to resolve issues during construction.
• Coordinate with the staff at the WWTP especially the Plant Manager, Operations Superintendent, and Maintenance Superintendent to make sure the WWTP operations and maintenance needs are incorporated into the projects as well as the impacts to ongoing operations during construction are considered and addressed.
• Inspect project sites to assist in solution of difficult problems; interpret specifications and City policy and make change orders.
• Review plans for construction prepared by private engineers.
• Check computations and specified materials for accuracy and compliance with regulations.
• Upgrade City standard plans and specifications; review subdivision and parcel maps.
• Serve as staff to a variety of City commissions, boards, and committees on public works engineering matters.
• Prepare periodic project status reports.
• Prepare various applications for state and federal grants.

The City of Brisbane's Public Works Department will be sponsoring two summer internships this year. The City of Burlingame Department of Public Works is currently recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer.  This is a senior level position that manages staff and major program areas in the Engineering Division; performs professional engineering work, project management and coordination of a variety of public works and transportation projects. Performs difficult, professional civil engineering work in the planning and design of street, water, sewer and other public works facilities. Coordinates with City Departments, private engineers, inspectors and contractors on technical details of public works facilities. This is a full-time position that requires significant administrative, analytical and technical skills acquired by advanced professional training and experience. Incumbents of this classification are expected to have a breadth of knowledge and experience to successfully manage complex projects with considerable independence.

Essential Functions (including but are not limited to the following)

• Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and guidance from the Assistant Director of Public Works;
• Must be able to plan and manage complex projects, perform difficult and complex engineering work, project management and represent the engineering division at City Council and Commission Meetings in the absence of the Assistant Director of Public Works;

License/Registration:  Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License. Valid registration in the State of California as a Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering.

Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from a recognized college or university. Six years in professional civil-engineering work involving engineering design, plan checking, project management and two years of supervisory responsibility. Additional related experience may be substituted for formal college education on the basis of two years’ experience for each year of formal college education.

Physically able to perform functions that would allow sufficient mobility to negotiate difficult construction terrain where crouching, climbing, and/or kneeling would be required. The Selection Process

The Department of Public Works is seeking well-qualified candidates for the position of Wastewater Collection Supervisor.
 
The Wastewater Collection Supervisor serves as first-line working supervisor, having responsibility for overseeing a crew of Wastewater Collection Workers in the operation and maintenance of sanitary sewer facilities of the ten County-owned sewer maintenance and sanitation districts. The Supervisor will coordinate, direct, and participate in the activities of the crew and administrative staff; utilize the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for scheduling work and indicating work that has been completed; operate a variety of light construction equipment and wastewater collection system maintenance equipment; and perform related duties as assigned.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will have at least two years of experience leading or supervising a crew of workers and laborers performing sanitary sewer maintenance work.
   
 The ideal candidate will also have the following:

• Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with practices, procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of sanitary sewer facilities 
• Experience in conducting sanitary sewer system inspections (sewer laterals and mainlines) and preparing related reports

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a Class B California driver license with both air brake and tank endorsement; AND
• Possession of a Grade III Collection System Maintenance Certification through the California Water Environment Association’s (CWEA) Technical Certification Program.

 
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is:

• Four years of experience in road maintenance and construction work, including two years of experience with sanitary sewer collection and water distribution systems.

The Position

• Install, maintain, repair and research a variety of supervisory controls and replacement electrical components that are part of advanced wastewater treatment processes such as aeration, filtration, disinfection and dichlorination, sludge dewatering, odor control, and an environmental laboratory.

The Position

The Traffic and Lighting Technician performs skilled electrical and mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of traffic control signage, traffic signal equipment, and street lights; and guides the work of and trains other maintenance personnel, and performs related work as required.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Guide and participate in the work of other maintenance personnel.  Ability to set-up work zone safety and prepare traffic control work plans.

• Inspect the work of contractors during the course of construction and upon completion.
• Monitor traffic control computer and make adjustments as necessary.

The Traffic and Lighting Technician receives general direction from the Field Maintenance Manager and direct supervision from a Public Works Supervisor or higher level department staff and may exercise technical or functional direction over and provide work review to a Traffic Safety Worker or Maintenance Worker I/II.
