THE DEPARTMENT

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The City Council has a Digital Inclusion and Broadband Strategy that seeks to accelerate the deployment of wired and wireless broadband for all people while making it more inclusive for the digitally underserved (closing the digital divide).  Executing this strategy requires accelerating Broadband permitting with the telecom providers for small cell, macro cell, and fiber optic infrastructure, working collaboratively with the community on the aesthetics and other community concerns associated with broadband deployment, and managing the day-to-day permitting workflow for the City’s Small Cell and Macro Cell Teams that execute the Permitting and Inspection processes for the City.

The Broadband Permitting Project Manager (Senior Executive Analyst) works as a member of the Civic Innovation Team reporting to the Broadband Manager (Assistant to the City Manager) responsible for Broadband and Digital Inclusion.

The Broadband Permitting Project Manager directly influences over $1B in private sector investment into the City. This private sector investment creates jobs, increases regional GDP, delivers Smart City capability, and delivers economic opportunities for the digitally under-served.

The Broadband Permitting Project Manager role requires a broad set of skills including project management, stakeholder coordination, strategic thinking, contract management, public policy, team leadership, and public collaboration.
