The Recreation Specialist is a unique position that is primarily responsible for specific projects or long term projects requiring relevant knowledge and expertise.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Coordinate all aspects of a project
• Set up and maintain project files or computer databases as required
• Provide regular project updates including written reports to project leader in a timely manner
• May work independently or in a team environment depending on project requirements
• Provide expertise and support to project leader
• Enforce City policies and procedures
• May be required variable hours including evenings and weekends
• Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by the Recreation Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Relevant technical skill, education, experience or expertise
• Ability to establish and maintain productive relations and positive attitude toward others
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Excellent organizational and supervisory skills, be resourceful, flexible and able to work both alone or as a team member
• Must be reliable and be able to provide transportation

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, & AED from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and TB test are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment

SELECTION PROCESS

The most highly qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview. Applicant evaluations may include a written and physical test. Satisfactory candidates will be placed on an eligibility list. Placements are anticipated immediately after the list is established. The City of Berkeley is seeking a Treasury Manager to join the Finance Department! In this role, you will serve as a division-level manager responsible for overseeing all staff and operational activities of the Treasury Division.

The Treasury Manager also assists the Finance Director in the short- and long-term investment of surplus City funds; maintains fiscal accountability for all City monies; manages the City's banking relationships; coordinates the implementation of the City's online payment program; and serves as the operational lead for Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance. This position has oversight of the City's centralized cashiering operations, revenue development and audits, and the collection of delinquent accounts.

The City of Berkeley is seeking a General Services Manager to join the Finance Department! In this role, you will act as the division head and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the programs and activities of the General Services Division. You'll supervise staff, oversee procurement and mail services, and ensure compliance with City policies.

Responsibilities include oversight of a centralized Purchasing function. Working with departments, the Division identifies equipment, goods, and services that will meet the City’s needs and creates cost effective purchasing and maintenance agreements. The Division also issues and awards all non-construction bids and Request for Proposals, and opens all construction bids to obtain the best competitive pricing. The General Services Manager also works to enforce compliance of all City procurement and contracting policies, maintain the Purchasing information on the City’s website, and assure that customers and vendors have online access to needed information and forms.

The Equipment Maintenance Division includes 14 full-time technicians and two supervisors, and the Equipment Superintendent is directly accountable for ensuring safe, efficient, and fiscally responsible fleet operations. A key focus of this position is advancing the City’s fleet electrification and clean transportation initiatives, including navigating California’s Advanced Clean Fleets regulations and collaborating with Engineering to plan and build the required charging infrastructure. You will work closely with user departments—primarily Police, Fire, Parks, Public Works, and the Zero Waste Division—to ensure the right equipment is procured, maintained, and deployed, while providing clear and actionable reporting on fleet condition, utilization, and lifecycle costs.

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, public administration, urban affairs, statistics, or a related field and at least two (2) years of professional experience in crime analysis or systems operations.

Experience in a law enforcement environment working with GIS, familiarity with National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) protocols, and a State Department of Justice Crime Analysis Certificate are desirable.

Must successfully complete a Police Department background investigation and evaluation, including a criminal history investigation. DEFINITION:

Under general supervision of the Finance Director, the incumbent in this classification performs professional accounting, auditing, and financial analysis work in support of a broad range of City financial functions; provides first-line supervision to support staff; performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Performs responsible accounting and auditing work in specified financial areas as assigned, for example, prepares journal entries and balances, maintains the City’s general ledger, and reconciles accounts.
• Assists in the preparation, implementation, and control of annual operating and capital improvement budgets. 
• Reviews policies, procedures, and practices in the areas of licensing, revenue collection, purchasing, accounts payable, payroll, and similar areas of operation and control to improve efficiency and effectiveness; recommends and implements improvements. 
• Reviews business data processing applications and recommends and implements improvements; may be required to convert manual processes into automated systems. 
• Plans, organizes, staffs, directs, and controls the work of support staff including the monitoring, evaluation and revision of work assignments.
