ABOUT THE POSITION: This position will receive immediate direction from the Management Analyst II. They provide a variety of clerical support and perform a wide range of customer service-related tasks in a fast paced, high touch environment. This position requires the ability to multi-task and respond to multiple requests from customers with professionalism and courtesy.

SCHEDULE: Staff will have the schedule flexibility to work weekday, weekend, early morning and evening shifts.  Staff may be asked to cover additional, unscheduled shifts due to absences by other Office Assistants. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The following duties are essential to the success of this position:
• Performs a variety of clerical support and receptionist duties; data input, answer phones, directs calls, takes messages, greets public and provides general information for all Recreation department classes, programs, policies, and events.
• Monitors all admittance to the facility, checks required credentials and charges appropriate fees.
• Calculates fees, charges and operate, balance cash register during and at end of shift.
• Monitor guests' activities in the main lobby area and enforce all rules, regulations, and safety principles.
• Assists in opening and closing procedures for the Community Center and the Aquatics & Fitness Center.
• Handles such services as selling merchandise.
• Has the ability to speak English clearly and understandably.
• Reads and follows diagrams and instruction written in English.
• Maintain accurate, organized records and files.
• Interpret and apply policies and procedures.
• Communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing.
• Deal effectively with other city personnel and the public.
• Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
• Operate office equipment (including computers, scanners, calculators, printers, and copiers).
• Perform related and additional duties as needed.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency and providing care according to the level of training.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an indoor setting working at a terminal keyboard for extended periods of time with the ability to move. at will to and from various points within the Community Center and Aquatics & Fitness Center. Must have ability to communicate orally with the public either in person or via the telephone. Must have ability to produce information in written form and operate office equipment (Computers, scanners, typewriters, calculators, printers, and copiers). It may be necessary to move objects weighing 20 lbs., such as mail, packages, merchandise inventory etc.

There is currently one (1) full-time, regular hire Civil Engineer (Engineering) vacancy.

The Senior Civil Engineer (CE) plans, manages, and coordinates the engineering program. Using broad parameters of departmental policy guidelines, this position exercises substantial initiative, judgment, and expertise to meet program and project outcomes. The Senior Civil Engineer creates the scope on large civil engineering projects with complex budgets and timelines, integrating numerous elements that significant stakeholder involvement and sensitivity. This position provides direction and mentorship to more junior staff and oversees both technical and administrative work performed by their staff and ensures that projects are completed efficiently and effectively for the public good. Informing the public and Board of Supervisors, selecting consultants, preparing contract documents, reviewing project plans and specifications prepared by consultants, and administering contracts during construction are performed by the Senior Civil Engineer.

Signing bonus:

In addition to a competitive compensations package, new, full-time, regular hire Senior Civil Engineer are eligible to receive a $10,000.00 signing bonus which will be split into two equal payments: 50% at time of hire (i.e. first paycheck) and the remaining 50% after successful completion of their probationary period.

Hybrid schedule:

The Department of Public Works has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely. However, the successful candidate must be able to report to County facilities for meetings, work assignments, and/or disaster service work upon short notice, as needed and deemed appropriate. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Forestry Climber in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity care for and maintain trees throughout the City. You'll climb trees of various heights using belts, lines, and similar equipment, and you will use a variety of hand and power tools to prune, trim, and shape street and park trees.

You'll also help keep our parks and streets safe by removing dead or broken branches, clearing street lights and overhead wires, and removing stumps and roots. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a high school and one (1) year of skilled experience in tree climbing, topping, trimming and maintenance of a wide variety of very tall shade and park trees.

Other requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must obtain and maintain a valid California Commercial (Class B) driver's license by the end of the probationary period and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Must be willing to work in tall trees and out of doors in all weather conditions. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds and sufficient agility to perform job duties while working in tree tops or from ladders or hydraulic buckets.

Key Responsibilities
