DEFINITION

The City of Live Oak Internship Program is designed to attract, develop and mentor innovative individuals interested in pursuing a career in the public sector. The program seeks dedicated students who, through their academic achievement and/or employment history, have demonstrated high potential for a career in local government. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Interns generally work under close supervision and perform simple or routine tasks while learning to perform the more difficult and responsible ones. Interns are hired as limited term employees and employment service is dependent on the length of the project or the particular City service needs.

Intern positions are by their nature temporary employment and Interns are not eligible for City benefit programs unless specifically approved in writing by the City Manager.

                                     POSITION DETAILS:

• Salary range: $20.62 - $26.32 + Excellent Benefits
• Salary Increases:
  • 3% Cost of Living adjustment increase effective 7/13/26
  • 3% Cost of Living adjustment increase effective 7/12/27
    • Salary placement is generally at the beginning of the range.
    • Advanced placement may be considered based on related education and experience.
    • NOTE: The City recently completed a compensation study comparing its salary ranges with those of other local agencies. As a result, 87% of salary ranges will be adjusted upward at various intervals. As ranges are adjusted, job postings will be updated to reflect these changes.
• Status: Regular, Full-Time position
• Work schedule: 4/10 (four 10‑hour days)

                            MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience:

• One year of clerical experience is desirable.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, CLETS certification issued by the Department of Justice.
• Ability to obtain POST Records and Public Records Act certifications.

                                     IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately enter, audit, and proofread sensitive police records and data.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to assist the public, officers, and outside agencies in a courteous, professional, and timely manner.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling highly sensitive criminal justice information.
• Proficiency with computers and data systems, including records management systems, databases, and standard office software.
• Ability to interpret laws and guidelines such as the California Public Records Act, DOJ requirements, and CLETS/NCIC procedures.
• Ability to multitask effectively in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions while meeting established deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing clear documents, answering inquiries, and relaying accurate information.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and apply established rules, codes, and regulations to daily work.
• Ability to conduct research to assist officers, agencies, and the public with information requests and background checks.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
• Adaptability to new technologies and willingness to learn new systems, procedures, and software tools.
