Join San Bruno Public Works, as a part-time, temporary Maintenance Assistant!

The San Bruno Public Works Department is committed to delivering responsive, professional, and efficient services that maintain and enhance the City’s infrastructure. With responsibility over streets, storm drains, wastewater collection, water distribution, public facilities, and engineering, the department is committed to providing responsive, high-quality service, and plays a vital role in keeping the city safe, clean, and functional.

Under immediate supervision, part-time maintenance assistants perform a range of unskilled and semiskilled tasks that support the day-to-day upkeep of the City’s infrastructure. This is a part-time, temporary position with the Public Works Department (18-20 hours per week) to support the City’s “Cleanup San Bruno” initiative.

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Cleans and removes debris and litter from parking lots, streets, gutters, storm drains, catch basins, and sidewalks, by shoveling, raking, sweeping, and picking up debris.
• Removal and loading of illegal dumping such as tires, mattresses, and furniture.
• Assists in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment, materials, debris, and other heavy objects related to maintenance.
• Operates a City vehicle and power tools necessary to complete maintenance for the above assigned areas.
• Assists with fire hydrant flushing program.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the best qualified candidates. Applicants should have the ability to read, write and carry out oral and written directions. Applicants should also have the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of proper use and care of common hand tools, skills performing manual work, and lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.

Special Requirements:

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license with good driving record (DMV printout required).

The City of Colfax is currently accepting applications for Maintenance Worker I. This is an entry level position in the Public Works department requiring a minimum of 1 year of experience in a semi-skilled maintenance occupation. Typical duties include: landscape maintenance, electrical and plumbing repairs, minor construction and light carpentry projects, cleaning public restrooms, keeping public streets and parks clean and in good repair. The employee will check storm drains, culverts and ditches; operate tools and equipment to patch and repair pavement, construct and maintain gutters, sidewalks and other incidental improvements. The ability to operate power tools and work safely, wearing appropriate PPE. Occasional maintenance will be required for the wastewater treatment plant and collection systems. The Building Maintenance Division of the Maintenance Operations Department is seeking experienced Building Maintenance Workers to provide HVAC maintenance support for all public facilities, such as City Hall, Historic Buildings, Fire Stations, Police Department, Recreation facilities, and Rental Housing. Building Maintenance Workers (HVAC) design, fabricate, inspect, install, troubleshoot and evaluate problems with HVAC equipment.  They also repair heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and related apparatus. Additionally, they install, repair and/or replace controls for energy management system as well as perform preventive maintenance and sheet metal work, including design and fabrication.

The Building Maintenance Division of the Maintenance Operations Department is also seeking experienced Building Maintenance Workers to provide general maintenance support for all public facilities, such as City Hall, Historic Buildings, Fire Stations, Police Department, Recreation facilities, and Rental Housing. Maintenance tasks for the general assignment typically include painting, electrical repairs, wall repair, roof repair, carpentry/metal work, and floor repair.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. 

Experience: One (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks and/or related facilities is desirable.

Benefits Overview:

Retirement:  The City is a part of the CalPERS retirement plan and does not contribute to Social Security. Sick Leave: 96 hours of sick leave per year.

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  Except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave accrual, no other benefits are provided. Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.
