 Primary responsibilities:

Salary range(s) for this classification is/are:   

• Building Inspector Combination: $114,769.20 - $139,579.44

• Building Inspector Combination Certified III: $126,169.68 - $153,709.92

This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.   

The Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior position will be located subject to business need. This position will provide inspection support at a variety of City of San José facilities, including the Airport, Regional Wastewater Facility and Central Service Yard.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Conduct inspections of industrial, commercial, manufacturing, and facilities to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, ordinances, standards, and contract agreements which includes setting up inspection schedules; gathering information and evidence; and, ensuring conformance to plans, specifications, and safety regulations.   

• Investigate building, construction, and land use changes in the field by gathering factual data to ascertain present use of land and location of structures; conducting background investigations and research; and preparing reports to use as evidence.   

• Provide technical assistance for development of codes and policies.   

• Generate written reports and enforcement orders which includes noting deficiencies in standards and submitting final documentation.   

• Review plans and specifications for compliance with codes which includes assisting in projects in complying with regulations, prioritizing deficiencies, and preparing timetables.   

• Provide technical support for agencies and the public which includes inputting data into system for general public access.   

• Meet with architects, engineers, City officials, and building contractors to discuss construction projects.   

• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

After passing required tests, the employee must commit to attending a 20-week program with the Santa Rosa Junior College Public Safety Training Center. The police academy will be held Monday – Friday and include some nights and weekends. The next academy is January 5 - May 22, 2026. 

Upon graduation, the successful trainee will be transitioned to a Field Training Officer program with the Mill Valley Police Department and promoted to Step 1 Police Officer (probationary) with full benefits. ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Lincoln is hiring a Senior Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department, Parks/Facilities Division.

 

DEFINITION:

Under direction, leads, oversees, reviews and performs work activities and duties assigned to the Public Works maintenance crews; assumes responsibility for the more difficult and complex tasks; performs other related duties as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Senior Public Works Maintenance Worker is the advanced journey level and/or lead class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance, construction or operational tasks. Incumbents perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair or operation of streets, sewer and water facilities, parks and buildings and solid waste. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Public Works Supervisor in that the latter has supervisory responsibilities for more than one Public Works service activity and performs the more complex assignments.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

Receives direction from the Public Works Supervisor or Operations Manager depending upon area of assignment. Exercises direct and indirect supervision over lower level Public Works Maintenance Worker staff.

• Leads, oversees, reviews and performs the work of staff responsible for maintenance, repair, construction, installation and operational work in streets, water and sewer facilities, parks or solid waste disposal; develops and implements crew assignments; assists maintenance staff in troubleshooting and performing the more complex maintenance, repair or operational activities; reviews work performed and work quality; participates in the evaluation of assigned personnel.

• Supervises the operation and maintenance of construction and maintenance equipment and/or machinery, including trucks, power tools and heavy equipment; provides training of lower level personnel in the areas of work; ensures adherence to safe work methods, procedures and practices; identifies training opportunities and needs; makes recommendations to higher level staff.
• Responds to the more difficult questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.
• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; evaluates assigned work projects; estimates time, materials and equipment necessary for the successful completion of the project; acquires necessary resources as is appropriate; assists in the development of budgets in the areas of assignment; assists in the development of work plans, procedures and schedules; responds to after hour call-outs if assigned.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff, and the public.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants.

The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

Minimum requirements for lateral entry officers:

• Must meet all minimum requirements for entry level officer with the exception of written and agility examination requirements.
• Must possess a POST Basic Certificate.
• A minimum of one-year satisfactory past police patrol experience within the past three years.
• Must have no record of felony criminal convictions or misdemeanor convictions that could affect credibility as a witness in a court of law.
• Vision and hearing capabilities consistent with guidelines by POST and/or the City.
• Must be of good moral character to be determined by a thorough background investigation, which will be conducted under POST guidelines.

A paralegal certificate or degree from a nationally or regionally accredited, or Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education-approved post-secondary institution that requires successful completion of 24 semester (or equivalent) units in law related courses plus at least one (1) year of law-related experience under the supervision of a licensed attorney. The law-related experience must be verified by a written declaration from the supervising attorney confirming the applicant is qualified to perform paralegal tasks.

5. A high school diploma or GED, plus at least three (3) consecutive years of law-related experience under the supervision of a licensed attorney. The law-related experience also must have been completed withing the four (4) years immediately prior to applying for the Paralegal position.

 

[1] The supervising and declaring attorney must be an active member of the California bar in good standing for at least the past three (3) years or must have practiced in the federal courts of California for at least the past three (3) years.

What You’ll Do 

• Serve as a vital liaison between the City Attorney’s Office and various City departments, facilitating the accurate and timely flow of information.
• Conduct fact investigations and perform foundational legal research to support casework.

Work Schedule 

This position is primarily onsite and requires in-office attendance five days per week for the first six months. Following six months of employment and a demonstrated record of exceptional performance, the Paralegal may be considered for a hybrid schedule, which includes the option to work remotely one day per week.

The City Clerk oversees the preparation and maintenance of City Council agendas and minutes, directs municipal elections, administers the City’s Records Management Program, and serves as the Filing Officer for the Fair Political Practices Commission.
