Old Meadows Community Center - Therapeutic Recreation Unit
Serving youth, teens and young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities

Part-Time position: up to 28 hours/week (may include evening/weekend hours)

Summary:
Under general supervision, coordinates, conducts and participates in the delivery of recreational program activities and executes day-to-day operations in assigned units according to established programs, schedules and standards; and performs other duties as assigned.

• Develops interest, enthusiasm and fair play among participants; addresses challenging behaviors and follows proper channels to document contacts and results; recruits assistance and guidance from immediate supervisor when escalation is needed; reports all compliance issues per District standards.
• Establishes schedules; responds to general inquiries; assists with program registration; initiates payment and refund procedures.
• Oversees and supervises the use and care of equipment, supplies, materials and facilities; assists in initiating equipment procurement and maintenance; manages forms related to facilities and equipment use.
• Supervises special events, field trips and other group activities; ensures safety of environment and equipment for participants.
• May be assigned to camp programs.

Other Duties & Responsibilites:

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• Applies behavior modification and appropriate social modeling techniques.
• May attend community events to promote recreational programs and events.
• May assist with transportation in specialized programs.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: 
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED program, and at least 1,500 hours of relevant work experience, with at least 30 units completed in recreation or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must be at least 18 years old.

Language Ability:
Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to use common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers, participants and parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses: 

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance. For Therapeutics unit: ability to obtain a commercial driver license within one year of employment (for a 15-passenger van).
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position may direct the activities of contract workers and volunteer staff.

Summary:
Under general supervision, plan, conduct, and participate in recreational program activities according to established programs, schedules, and standards, in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Develop, conduct, and participate in various athletic, craft, social, cultural, and instructional activities
• Prepare facilities for programming, special events, or rental group usage
• Greet visitors, direct participants to the appropriate location, and respond to general inquiries
• Ensure safety of environment and equipment for staff, volunteers, participants, and visitors
• May open or close and secure facilities in compliance with District policies and procedures
• Issue and collect recreation equipment and supplies used by instructors, participants, or visitors
• Supervise special events, field trips, and other group activities

TEEN CENTER/ KIDS NIGHT OUT PROGRAM STAFF

Salary Range: $17.37 to $28.95/hour depending on experience.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 950 hours per fiscal year); predominantly afternoon/early evening schedule with some weekends and concurrent with the school year.

SUPERVISION

General supervision received from the Program Coordinator. May exercise supervision of other staff depending on position.

GENERAL DUTIES

Responsible for general oversight of and ensuring the safety of the after-school youth programming. Specific responsibilities to include:

• Organize and execute a variety of daily and weekly activities for participants ranging in ages 5 –14   including art, crafts, and games
• Mentor and role model, strive to inspire and guide participants towards their full potential
• Maintain accurate attendance records on a daily and weekly basis
• Effectively facilitate and/or lead small and large groups of youth.
• Communicate effectively with participants, co-workers, parents, and supervisors
• Willing and available to work flexible hours as needed.
• Plan and execute duties related to special interest classes, school-year and seasonal programs, and special events.
• Serve as a role model and advocate for youth.
• Communicate effectively with youth and their parents.

• Attend monthly on-site staff meeting

Middle School (Teen Centers) 
Our Teen Centers provide a secure and entertaining atmosphere for middle school students to spend their after-school hours. The centers are furnished with game consoles, sports equipment, board games, and other amusing activities. We operate on early release days and select non-school days, but we are closed during holidays.

Los Cerros Middle School:

Kids’ Night Out and Kids’ Day Out Programs
Under the general supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator and direct supervision of the Youth Program Assistant, Youth Services staff is responsible for supervision and safety within the Kids’ Night Out and Kids’ Day Out programs, including implementing a variety of crafts, games and activities for youth ages 5 to 11. Kids’ Night Out takes place every other Friday from 6:00pm to 10:00pm and Kids’ Day Out takes place during the week there is no school in session excluding holidays. 

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Facility Attendant performs custodial duties related to the care and cleaning of assigned facilities, performs a wide variety of duties for events, classes and programs, including setting up and tearing down of tables, chairs, equipment and supplies and will perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed.

Provide friendly and professional customer service by greeting Community Center visitors, serving as a main point of contact during activities and events primarily in evenings, weekends and special events.

Performs custodial duties at assigned facilities which include, but are not limited to cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing, stripping and polishing floors; cleaning furniture, woodwork, fixtures, equipment, supplies, doors, windows, walls, walkways, driveways, and facility grounds; disposing of trash.

Set up all necessary equipment and furniture such as tables, chairs, podiums, and A/V equipment for indoor and/or outdoor events.

Inspects facilities and equipment, reports issues in a timely manner to appropriate higher-level staff; performs minor facility maintenance.

Explain and follow City and department policies and procedures.

Provide information and feedback to Facility and Parks Supervisor.

Opens, closes, secures and alarms facilities in compliance with standard procedures.

Supervise and interact with rental guests, responding by assisting with any facility needs.

Assists in monitoring and maintaining equipment and supplies.

May perform clean up duties as needed, including but not limited to:  move and arrange furniture and equipment, restroom cleaning, sweeping and mopping, and garbage pick-up and removal.

Village Park Preschool is a play-based preschool program offered by the City of Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department at Village Park. We offer 3 programs: Lil’ Sprouts (2 year olds), Cottage Kids (3 year olds), and Afternoon Owls (3 year olds).  The emphasis of the program is physical, social, and emotional growth in a child-centered environment. Activities are designed to foster a healthy child that develops an early love of learning. Village Park Preschool programs strive to create an environment inspiring each child’s individual creativity and self-expression. Under the direction of a Recreation Supervisor, the Preschool Aide supports the lead teacher in providing a nurturing and educational environment for young children. This includes helping with classroom activities, supervising children, and ensuring a safe and clean learning environment.

Essential Duties

• Assist in implementing activities that support early childhood education and socialization.
• Assist with a variety of activities including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, organized games, story time, music/singing activities, science, cooking, early writing skills, and interactive circle time.
• Ensure proper safety precautions are observed.
• Maintain and care for supplies, equipment, and the facility.
• Set up daily snack.
• Change diapers and support toilet training.
• Complete assigned paperwork, including timecards and incident and accident reports.
• Communicate with parents and staff to disseminate information and build positive relationships.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with young children.
• Early Childhood Education units a plus.

• Lil Sprouts: Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 9am-11:30pm (2 year olds)
• Lil’ Sprouts: Tuesday/Thursday: 9:00am-11:30am (2 year olds)
• Cottage Kids: Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 8:45am-12:15pm (3 year olds)
• Cottage Kids: Tuesday/Thursday: 8:45am-12:15pm (3 year olds)
• Afternoon Owls: Tuesday/Thursday: 12:30pm-3:30pm (3 year olds)

Summer Camp (June 9-August 8)

• Monday- Friday: 9am-12pm (3-4 year olds)

• 8-20 Hours a week       
• Maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year  

Benefits: Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014 Paid Sick Leave Benefit. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 24 hours per year. There is no cash value associated with the benefit. No other benefits are offered. This position is at will and is not part of the City's Civil Service System. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time. 

Salary: $23.27-$28.82 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
