The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2026.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events. It is the goal of the Recreation Department to offer a balanced program ensuring all elements are offered to all age groups throughout the year. This is a part-time position. Hours will range from 20-37 hours per week.

This position is under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. Leaders will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the Summer Day Camp at Sterling Park.

SALARY 

The anticipated hiring range for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Supervisor position is $95,985 - $119,982 annually, with a full salary range up to $143,978. The City typically makes offers within the hiring range based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

DESCRIPTION 

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a hands-on and technically proficient Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Supervisor to support operations at the Hill Canyon Treatment Plant (HCTP), a 24-hour, Class V advanced tertiary wastewater treatment facility with a 14-million-gallon-per-day capacity that treats an average of eight million gallons of wastewater daily from domestic commercial, and industrial sources. HCTP employs a wide range of sophisticated technologies, including a SCADA system, complex mechanical process equipment, analytical instrumentation and meters, industrial electronic control systems, and power distribution infrastructure.  

The Maintenance Supervisor oversees the maintenance of this diverse and critical equipment, including on-site power generation systems such as biogas-fueled cogeneration and photovoltaic solar array that offsets the facility’s energy use. Treated effluent is produced to an advanced tertiary level and reused for agricultural and landscape irrigation, while biosolids are managed and hauled off-site for composting. This role requires strong leadership, sound technical judgment, and the ability to manage shifting priorities in a highly regulated, continuously operating environment, while ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant plant operations.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned staff; develops, implements, and monitors work plans, processes, systems, and procedures to achieve established goals, objectives, and performance standards.  

• Plans, directs, and evaluates employee performance; establishes performance expectations and development goals; provides regular coaching and feedback; and recommends recognition or corrective action, consistent with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations. 

• Participates in the recruitment and selection of maintenance staff; coordinates and provides staff training; and works with employees to address performance or skill deficiencies.  

• Establishes schedules and methods for providing plant maintenance services; identifies staffing, equipment, and material needs; and allocates resources accordingly. 

• Provides leadership to ensure a high-performance, safety-focused, and team-oriented work environment aligned with departmental and City goals.  

• Participates in budget development; forecasts funding needs for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors expenditure; and recommends budget adjustments as needed. 

• Performs and oversees complex mechanical, electrical, and equipment maintenance and repair activities.  

• Oversees and supports the maintenance, reliability, and performance of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, including coordination with control technologies, operators, and IT staff to ensure system availability, alarm functionality, and integration with plant equipment and processes.  

• Monitors SCADA system trends, alarms, and performance data to identify equipment issues, support preventive and corrective maintenance activities, and ensure timely response to system or equipment anomalies that may impact plant operations.   

• Monitors work sites to ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures; responds to and resolves complex operational or equipment-related issues. 

• Inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with City standards, regulations, and operating procedures.  

• Serves as technical liaison with contractors, consultants, and engineers on mechanical and maintenance-related projects. 

• Maintains inventory of tools, equipment, parts, and supplies required for efficient plant maintenance operations.  

• Operates motorized equipment as required and performs physical and hand-on maintenance work in support of plant operations. 

• Prepares and maintains operational records, reports, and documentation related to maintenance activities.  

• Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices through training and professional development. 

• Performs related duties as assigned.

Additionally, the ideal candidate for the Sheriff’s Office will possess a California Class C or Class A license, have a clean driving record, and be comfortable working alongside incarcerated individuals. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office currently has one regular full-time vacancies with additional vacancies expected. The appointment may be made at either the Food Service Worker I or II level, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate(s) and the needs of the department.
  
As a Food Service Worker with the Sheriff’s Office you will be responsible for:

• Directing the work of incarcerated individuals who are assigned to clean and prepare food or assist in related routine tasks defined by supervisors at specific facilities assisting Cooks in the preparation of meals.
• Driving a large or small truck to deliver food and supplies and maintaining basic records related to vehicle use such as mileage and service reports.
• Preparing food for cooking by peeling, cutting, or slicing.
• Preparing salads, sandwiches, beverages, and simple desserts.

• Maintaining safety and security of equipment and addressing issues that arise.

• Cleaning facilities including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing work areas such as floors, storage spaces, trucks and emptying garbage cans.
• Assisting with deliverables including signing for, bringing in, and/or storing items.
• Performing basic office tasks such as answering phones, working with computers, and paperwork.
• Following Food Service Unit policy and procedures including arriving to work on time, submitting personal timecard and assisting in following up on requests in a timely matter.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Food Service Worker I ($30.86 - $34.47 / hourly) is the entry/trainee level position. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn a full range of Food Service Worker duties. As experience is gained there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This classification is flexibly staffed with Food Service Worker II and incumbents may advance to the next level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiencies which meet the higher-level qualifications.
  
Food Service Worker II ($32.50 - $36.35 / hourly) is the journey level position. Under general supervision, incumbents independently perform a variety of responsible food service duties. Incumbents work under specified guidelines and supervisors are available in non-routine circumstances. Specific duties may vary from position to position.
 
Knowledge of:

• Basic kitchen cleaning and sanitation methods.
• Operation and care of kitchen equipment.
• Proper lifting techniques.

Skill/Ability to:

• Prepare simple foods and beverages.

• Participates in collecting fees for services; provides patron assistance with payments; properly stores or transfers cash monies; processes refund requests.

Qualifications:

Selection Process:

Examination:
Candidate selection will be based on competitive examinations. Test content will be related to the job. A driver license will be requested for identification and admission to the testing area. If there is more than one part to an examination, candidates must pass each part. Candidates with passing scores will be asked to compete in successive parts of the examination.

• Written Test/Practical Exercise:  A written test and a practical exercise may be used, in addition to the appraisal interview. 
• Appraisal Interview:  A job related appraisal interview will be conducted to evaluate and compare participating candidates’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in relation to those factors which job analysis has determined to be essential for successful performance of the job.
• After the Appraisal Interview, the top candidates will be invited to a staff interview.

Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of Town water, sewer, street and storm drainage facilities and systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
•    Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling.

•    Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of equipment and supplies.
•    Work in adverse weather conditions.
