Applications are being accepted for the position of Engineering Intern with the City of South San Francisco’s Public Works Department - Engineering Division. This is a non-benefited, part-time hourly/temporary position.

THE POSITION

Under supervision, performs sub-professional engineering office work to assist the Public Works Engineering Division teams on programs and projects that may include engineering permits, land development plan checks, procedural and standards research and development, record and asset management, traffic research and field crew assistance.
 

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in basic engineering principles and demonstrate proficiency in modern drafting and design practices. They should be familiar with engineering office tools and computer-aided drafting software such as AutoCAD, as well as design and GIS mapping systems.

We are seeking someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, adaptable, and self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

The ideal candidate will have willingness to learn about construction management and inspection procedures and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and drafting work. They should be capable of collecting and recording engineering field data with a high level of detail and maintaining thorough documentation. Proficiency in modern office software tools, including PowerPoint, to create professional presentations is essential. The candidate must be able to prepare clear and concise written correspondence, including responses to public inquiries, and demonstrate the ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors and the public are important. Flexibility to work varied hours as needed to meet project demands is also required.

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Performs a wide variety of responsible sub-professional engineering work including assisting engineering staff with general clerical, administrative, and technical tasks for public works projects
• Performs electronic document filing, enters data and creates reports in various software applications
• Conducts internet research and research of engineering record archives
• Processes permits and reviews land development plans
• Assists with Traffic Advisory Committee tasks
• Assists with internal and external communications and public outreach
• Learns to assist with engineering plan reviews and traffic control plans
• Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least one year of experience in fitness instruction, personal training, or a related field preferred.  

• Experience in group instruction and one-on-one training is highly desirable. 

Knowledge and Skills

This position requires a knowledge of general fitness principles, exercise techniques, and wellness practices, instructing and motivating individuals or groups in a fitness setting, excellent communication to provide clear instruction and positive feedback and assessing client needs and creating individualized fitness programs. The position also requires ability to operate and maintain fitness equipment safely. 

Special Requirements: 

• Current certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Utility Billing Division

Either manually or through the use of computers, as appropriate, does responsible clerical accounting work in the maintenance of financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; interacts with residents through phone, email, and in person; receives and receipts money; prepares records to open, change, maintain or close utility accounts; performs routine arithmetical computations; opening, sorting, and processing mail; operates adding machines; does routine typing of documents and precise computer data entry of financial data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: 

Account Clerk I level: Methods, principles, and terminology used in financial clerical work; and modern office practices.

Ability to:  

Perform clerical work of average difficulty; prepare basic financial reports, maintain journals, ledgers, and complex files; operate adding and calculating machines; perform arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:

Account Clerk I:  One year of clerical experience involving financial record keeping and general office work; six (6) months of experience using computer spreadsheets is desirable.

POSITION DESCRIPTION 
 

The City of San Bruno Community Services Departments is hiring for a Library Page position at the San Bruno Public Library. The Library Page position is an entry-level, part-time role with limited benefits. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in playing a key role in the library's daily operations. Candidates must have a flexible schedule and be available to work 14-19 hours per week, including weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays, to meet the library's scheduling needs.

Under the general supervision of library staff, Library Pages perform routine tasks to maintain the organization of the library collections, including the shelving, sorting, and filing of books, magazines, audiovisual materials, and other library materials. Pages also clean and mend library materials, help set-up for various Library programs, assist in the opening and closing of the Library building for public access, and perform other clerical tasks as needed.

THE POSITION

Under administrative direction, the City Engineer plans, organizes, coordinates and directs all Engineering Division activities of the various functional units including capital project design and construction administration, development review, traffic engineering, signal and streetlight maintenance and storm water program administration; provides professional assistance to City staff in areas of responsibility; performs related work as required.

The City Engineer is a single incumbent class at the middle management level. The City Engineer is responsible for the direction and management of activities and achievement of division goals established for the Engineering Division.

• Conducts site visits and meets with property owners, engineers, contractors or attorneys to review and resolve development or capital project issues or disputes as needed.
• Reviews and resolves traffic engineering related issues.
• Administer the scope of work and review studies and analysis conducted by traffic consultants.  
• Oversees the contract for street lighting and traffic signal system maintenance and related facilities and appurtenances.
• Oversees the activities of the local utility companies that support the City’s CIP projects, regional transportation projects, development projects and utility improvements.
• Oversees the activities of the City’s Stormwater/Clean Water Program, including the preparation and submission of the annual report.
• Understanding of federal, state, county and local transportation funds and the requirements and policies for project implementation including planning, environmental, design, right of way, construction and project close-out and may serve as City’s technical advisory member for the Alameda County Transportation Commission monthly funding meetings.
• Performs all activities related to the preparation and administration of grant proposals; coordinates with grant program staff to satisfy grant requirements and achieve funding reimbursements.   
• Ensures that the City is in continuing compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to municipal engineering and public works matters; reviews and recommends revisions to applicable policies and ordinances. 
• Advises the Public Works Director, City Manager’s Office and others on the planning and implementation of capital projects, land development or other related activities. 
• Prepares and presents engineering recommendations to the City Council in conformance with applicable codes, rules, regulations, and other legal requirements; functions as the Public Works staff representative to the Planning Commission and other City committees as required. 
• Represents the City in meetings and coordinates division activities with those of other City departments, divisions and outside public and private agencies
• Responds to citizen inquiries, requests and complaints.
• Serves as the Public Works Director on a relief basis.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department invites you to apply for the casual position of Building Attendant. This position requires daytime availability for four-to-six-hour shifts between the hours of 8am and 5pm. A person in this classification will work flexibly, up to 20 hours per week. Locations could vary across multiple community centers, and Building Attendants will be required to open the facility as needed.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: provide excellent customer service to youth, teens, adults, and seniors; oversee the use of the facility insuring that patrons conform to established City and building rental policies and procedures; perform classroom and multi- purpose room set-up and breakdowns for classes, meetings, and building rentals; perform front desk customer service functions; perform minor clean-up as needed including, cleaning bathrooms, floors, windows, counter tops, and emptying garbage; lock and unlock doors; secure building; set up supplies and equipment as dictated by program needs; and perform related duties as assigned.

DEFINITION

Under the general direction of the Director and City Engineer, the Civil Engineering Associate/Project Manager – Capital Projects leads the delivery of complex capital infrastructure and facility projects for the Town of Danville.  This role focuses on high-value construction and modernization projects, including buildings, utilities, and public infrastructure. The position serves as a critical liaison between Town departments, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure successful execution of capital projects within scope, schedule, and budget.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Director and City Engineer. Exercises supervision over Public Works Inspectors and contractors.  This is a journeyman-level, first line supervisory position requiring substantial independent judgment, technical expertise, and leadership in managing capital improvement projects. The position reports to the City Engineer and may supervise professional and technical staff. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Train, direct and manage Public Works Inspectors to perform and document daily inspections of construction projects, private development projects, encroachment permits and clean water inspections to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permit conditions of approval and Town standards.
• Oversee day-to-day operations for paving construction projects ensuring project is completed safely, on schedule, according to quality specified and within budget.
• Plans, organizes, directs and controls all parts of projects from permitting, bidding, and construction to the closeout for a portfolio of complex capital improvement projects.
• Prepares and monitors project budgets, including support for obtaining funding.
• Facilitates work of a multi-disciplinary development team across organizational boundaries, including designers and construction professionals.
• Develops and maintains detailed project schedules and budgets, tracks expenditures, and recommends cost control strategies.
• Reviews and processes change orders, ensures quality control, and oversees contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
• Prepares reports, presentations, and communications to inform internal and external stakeholders, including Town Council.
• Ensures that contractors are maintaining safe work sites and that the needs of the staff at each project are being protected.
• Coordinates final project closeout including punch list items, documentation, and transfer to operations.

Experience:

The required education is interchangeable with project management experience related to the area of assignment on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years. 

Education:

A bachelor’s degree in planning, construction management, engineering, civil engineering, facilities management or a closely related field with project management experience. 

LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S)

Possession of a California State Driver’s License, or license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire.

The Department

The South San Francisco Public Works Department is comprised of its three main divisions - Engineering, Maintenance & Operations, and the Water Quality Control Plant. Together, these divisions ensure that South San Francisco's infrastructure and public services are efficiently managed and maintained, contributing to the overall quality of life in the community.

Located adjacent to San Francisco Bay on Colma Creek, the Water Quality Control Plant (WQCP) provides secondary wastewater treatment for the cities of South San Francisco, San Bruno, and Colma. It also provides the dechlorination treatment of chlorinated effluent for the cities of Burlingame, Millbrae, and the San Francisco International Airport prior to discharging the treated wastewater into San Francisco Bay. The average dry weather flow through the facility is 9 million gallons per day (MGD). Peak wet weather flows can exceed 60 MGD.
