The City of Simi Valley is seeking a qualified Senior Engineer to join its team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for civil engineers looking for variety, challenge, and meaningful work in public infrastructure.

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for managing complex capital improvement projects, conducting hydraulic studies, and performing advanced technical engineering tasks related to the planning, design, and construction of waterworks facilities. Key responsibilities include preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a range of water infrastructure and public works projects, such as:

• Water main line replacements

• Water tank rehabilitation and replacement

• Pump station upgrades

The Senior Engineer works under the general supervision of a higher-level professional engineer and provides lead supervision to assigned engineering staff, ensuring quality, compliance, and timely delivery of projects.

                                 POSITION DETAILS:

• Regular full-time position
• 9/80 work schedule (every other Monday or Friday off)
• Salary range $52.06 to $66.95 hourly with Excellent Benefits (see below)

                             MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education/Training: 

• Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or architecture with specialized course work related to area of assignment.

Experience: 

• Four years of professional engineering experience related to area of assignment including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory responsibility.

License or Certificate: 

• Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California, or a licensed Architect in the State of California (when assigned to Building & Safety).
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Plans Examiner certificate may be required depending on area of assignment.

The Public Works Department
The Public Works Department consists of Design Engineering, Development Engineering, Construction, Civic Facilities, Transportation, Survey, and Real Property sections. The department reviews all proposed land development projects in the City and executes the design and construction of public projects such as streets, parks, and public buildings.

The Position

The City of Fremont's Human Services Department is seeking temporary employees to work evening shifts, from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. during winter months (approximately October 13, 2025, through April 30, 2026). This position plays a vital role in supporting the temporary Winter Relief emergency shelter program, which provides a safe and welcoming environment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Winter Relief Monitors will work under the direction of a Senior Program Coordinator and be responsible for up to 20 hours of work per week.

Training will include topics including harm reduction, de-escalation, Critical Time Intervention (CTI), and local community-based resources.

Examples of Duties

• Foster a supportive and respectful environment through empathetic communication, addressing emotional challenges that may arise during participant transitions.
• Enforce program rules to maintain a safe environment by providing verbal warnings and educational support to promote understanding and voluntary compliance.
• Respond promptly to emergencies by assessing situations, contacting emergency services (e.g., 911), and communicating with property staff and public safety personnel.
• Operate a City of Fremont vehicle as required.
• Conduct daily room visits, distribute meals and supplies, and engage with participants to build rapport and understand individual needs.
• Collaborate in weekly team meetings for case consultation, providing input and developing strategies to support participants’ connections to community resources.
• Maintain accurate records, including daily sign-in sheets, incident reports, and documentation of on-site activities.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

The City of Newark is seeking an energetic and committed Associate Civil Engineer to perform professional civil engineering work related to the planning, review, design, construction, inspection, and coordination of a variety of public works projects with a particular emphasis on Land Development. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Meet and confer with developers, contractors, engineers and the general public relative to city policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Attend Development Review Committee meetings on designated entitlement projects and present and coordinate Engineering issues with other City departments.
• Recommend and prepare conditions of approval for Planning entitlement projects.
• Review private and public development improvement plans and subdivision maps for compliance with state and local codes, regulations and standards, and compliance with the requirements of project approval.
• Review development encroachment permits, building permits, grading and sitework permits and other permit applications, including technical reports and documents such as hydrology and hydraulic reports, stormwater management reports, and geotechnical reports.
• Review legal property descriptions, ordinances, assessment plans and other written materials.

• Makes engineering calculations, completes design drawings, makes and revises maps, charts and diagrams.

• Assist Public Works Inspectors in resolving construction issues.

• Perform field inspections of various municipal construction projects, in progress and upon completion.

• Respond to applicants, contractors, consulting engineers regarding technical information and project related issues; assist and coordinate project resolutions with applicant’s team and City team.
• Coordinate projects with various agencies, such as Caltrans, Union Sanitary District (USD), Alameda County Water District (ACWD), and Alameda County Flood Control District (ACFCD)

• Perform work in accordance with local, State, and Federal standards and regulations

• Attend Alameda County Cleanwater Program committee meetings.

• Schedule and track progress of land development projects.

• Prepare staff reports, as well as presentations for City Council, and other legislative bodies; respond to the public and other inquiries orally and in writing.

• Develop Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) and participate with other department staff in the selection of consulting engineers.

• Serve as Project Engineer on Public Works capital improvement projects and transportation engineering tasks as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. 
• Three (3) years of civil engineering experience, including one year of lead responsibility. 
• Registered as a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.

Building Maintenance Workers (HVAC) design, fabricate, inspect, install, troubleshoot and evaluate problems with HVAC equipment.  They also repair heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and related apparatus. Additionally, they install, repair and/or replace controls for energy management system as well as perform preventive maintenance and sheet metal work, including design and fabrication.

The Building Maintenance Division of the Maintenance Operations Department is also seeking experienced Building Maintenance Workers to provide general maintenance support for all public facilities, such as City Hall, Historic Buildings, Fire Stations, Police Department, Recreation facilities, and Rental Housing. Maintenance tasks for the general assignment typically include painting, electrical repairs, wall repair, roof repair, carpentry/metal work, and floor repair.
