ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department invites you to apply for the casual position of Building Attendant. This position requires daytime availability for four-to-six-hour shifts between the hours of 8am and 5pm. A person in this classification will work flexibly, up to 20 hours per week. Locations could vary across multiple community centers, and Building Attendants will be required to open the facility as needed.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: provide excellent customer service to youth, teens, adults, and seniors; oversee the use of the facility insuring that patrons conform to established City and building rental policies and procedures; perform classroom and multi- purpose room set-up and breakdowns for classes, meetings, and building rentals; perform front desk customer service functions; perform minor clean-up as needed including, cleaning bathrooms, floors, windows, counter tops, and emptying garbage; lock and unlock doors; secure building; set up supplies and equipment as dictated by program needs; and perform related duties as assigned.

The City of Marysville is seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Public Works Director; this recruitment will fill 1 vacancy and create an eligible list.  

Reporting directly to the City Manager, this position is responsible for executive direction, strategic leadership, and management of the Public Works Department, including City maintenance workers and capital improvement projects. 

As the principal administrator of the Public Works Department, the Director; plans, organizes, directs, reviews and manages all department activities and functions including Engineering, Parks and Recreation, Streets, Public Facilities, Wastewater Treatment/Sewage, and Storm Water Management.

The Director also coordinates departmental activities with other City departments, outside agencies, community groups and individuals; and provides highly complex professional advice and support to the City Manager and City Council; assures department compliance with and enforcement of applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and codes; manages and supervises staff; serves as a member of the City’s Executive Team.

REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education and Certification

Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar major.

Licenses: Possess valid California Class C Driver’s License.

Experience

Incumbents must have a minimum of three (3) years of managerial experience directly involving municipal services such as public works, public utilities, capital improvement project management, parks maintenance and management, and/or street and facilities maintenance.

This position will provide a variety of clerical duties required to assist veterans and their dependents in determining, applying for, and maintaining eligibility for benefits. The incumbent provides clerical support to the Veterans’ Services Officer. This position is full-time, and is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the city’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. Amenities include Centennial Dog Park, bocce ball courts, an above-ground skate park, a variety of ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic shelters and group picnic areas.
 

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION:

The ideal part-time Park Maintenance Worker will be able to prioritize work and coordinate multiple tasks while working cooperatively with a variety of people, consistently ensuring excellent customer service. Capable of organizing duties, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimal supervision to maintain parks and public facilities according to established standards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in park and landscape maintenance, as well as an understanding of occupational hazards and related safety practices.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains all types of landscaped areas through mowing, watering, planting, trimming, weeding, and fertilizing.
• Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
• Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chippers, and related grounds and tree maintenance equipment.
• Cleans and perform minor repairs to park and recreation equipment, buildings, and related facilities; maintains and prepares athletic fields.
• Assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems; assists in the maintenance and minor repair of power-driven equipment.
• As assigned, works extended or irregular hours.
• Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the Corporation Yard.
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience in parks and landscape maintenance work is preferred. 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license, and a satisfactory driving record.

The Judicial Council of California is accepting applications for the position of Associate Fiscal Analyst for the Budget Services office.   

The Associate Fiscal Analyst plays a key role in developing and implementing the annual budget for California’s 58 trial courts. Responsibilities include: (1) gathering, verifying, and compiling court data to support budget creation, (2) processing payments for trial court reimbursement programs, and (3) preparing monthly distribution templates in the FI$Cal system to allocate operational funding. Additionally, the position supports the Trial Court Budget Advisory Committee—an advisory group to the Judicial Council—by preparing meeting materials such as agendas, minutes, and meeting notes, and coordinating meetings with committee chairs. The position also handles inquiries and special assignments from the trial courts.

The Department of Public Works is accepting applications for the position of Public Works Technician I/II. Under general supervision, Public Works Technicians perform a variety of routine to journey level sub-professional technical, field, and office civil engineering work in a variety of technical areas.

The current vacant Public Works Technician I/II position is in the Road Operations - Permitting Section of the Road Services Division.

The Road Maintenance Division of County of San Mateo's Department of Public Works is responsible for routine and emergency repairs to over 315 miles of road surfaces, culverts, shoulders, drainage facilities, and roadside vegetation on roads within the public right-of-way of San Mateo County's unincorporated districts.

Public Works Technician I is the entry level class of this technical support series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn technical support and County procedures. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This class is flexibly staffed with Public Works Technician II and incumbents are expected to advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualification of the higher-level class.

Public Works Technician II is the journey level class of this series, fully competent to independently perform a variety of responsible technical support duties. This class is distinguished from the Senior Engineering Aide class which is specialized in scope and technical functions.

The ideal candidate for this position has the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Familiarity and experience with permitting, plan review, or other technical clerical work
• Communicate effectively and work professionally with the public and co-workers. 
• Has field experience related to utility construction projects.
• Has experience in construction or inspection of construction projects
• Read and interpret engineering and architectural plans and regional maps. Understanding of construction terminology and standards.
• Organize workload and work independently in the field and office.
• Create documents, reports and maps with Microsoft suite applications, AutoCAD and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Provide technical support to a public works field such as engineering, traffic, mapping, surveying, drafting, construction, or related technical support field.

• Sit, stand, and lift signs as needed for QA/QC.
• Assist Traffic Engineer with development of traffic control plans, striping plans, etc. as directed.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide information to the public and other governmental agencies, in person or over the telephone, regarding County procedures and regulations, facility locations, plan requirements and property ownership, which may require the interpretation of policies and procedures.
• Ensure permit applications are complete, accurate, and comply with County regulations and public works standards
• Obtain and distribute copies of maps, land descriptions and similar information.
• Maintain accurate records and files.
• Develop and update permanent files for County retention.
• Use and perform minor maintenance and cleaning on standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of work.
• Use specialized equipment to develop and produce copies of maps, drawings and blueprints.
• Assist in preparing channelization, traffic control and related plans and drawings.
• Investigate public complaints regarding traffic conditions.
• Maintain and analyze records regarding accidents and traffic incidents.
• Collect and maintain records or traffic counts and similar data by placing traffic counters in the field and collecting and recording information.
• Conduct radar speed surveys.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
 

• I level: High school diploma with mathematics courses.
• II level: Two years' experience in providing technical support to a related public works field such as engineering, drafting, construction, surveying or related technical support field.

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application
