The Traffic Signal Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks involving maintenance, repair, modification, inspection, and testing of traffic signals, controllers, and street lighting systems.

• Electrical maintenance and repairs on traffic signal, street lighting, and battery back-up systems and equipment

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Housing Inspector II (Certified)! In this role, you will perform skilled inspection work with City residential housing inspection programs. You will independently perform the full scope of work in the investigation, reporting and follow-up of housing deficiencies to gain compliance with housing, building, zoning, fire, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related codes and regulations.

Assignments are varied and generally require close interaction with the public, providing information and interpretation of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations. We'll expect you to exercise considerable independence and discretion in conducting inspections, resolving complaints and enforcing inspection results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and at least two years of full-time experience equivalent to Housing Inspector or Building Inspector or Code Enforcement Inspector for a public agency. 

Must possess:

• An International Code Council (ICC) OR California (CA) certification in Residential Building or Housing Inspection or in Code Enforcement; and
• ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Electrical Inspector certification and ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification, or equivalent ICC or CA Legacy Certification for either Combination Inspector or Combination Dwelling Inspector.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

THE POSITION

A Mechanic performs maintenance and repair services on heavy/light City vehicles/equipment, such as fire trucks, automobiles, construction equipment, street sweepers, lawn mowers, stationary generators; and performs other duties as assigned.

This is the journey level classification in the Mechanic series. The Mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures. Independent judgment is required and is supported at regular intervals by supervisory review and direction.

AHA is seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Technician I to perform a range maintenance and alterations on Housing Authority buildings and facilities, HVAC, and other electrical and mechanical systems; identifying and evaluating construction-related problems; performing installation and repairs on plumbing systems; conducting property inspections, and coordinating with vendors on maintenance replacement and repair projects. What you will do:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (could include but not limited to):

• Plan, direct, review and participate in professional and technical work of a functional group of  the Engineering & Transportation Division with principal assignments involving traffic  circulation design, traffic safety studies, geometric design of streets and interchanges, and  traffic operation studies.
• Direct, assist, and participate in traffic analysis, circulation design, and design transportation engineering projects, such as traffic signals, signs, and markings, channelizations, street lighting and parking facilities.
• Provide consulting services and advice to City departments, divisions, and other groups on matters related to transportation engineering.
• Answer inquiries, investigate complaints, and provide information to the general public.
• Meet with individuals and groups as necessary.
• Investigate, analyze, and prepare reports including those for the City Engineer on claims against the City related to transportation matters.
• Testify in court on claims against the City related to transportation issues.
• Act as Project Manager on both City and consultant-designed transportation related projects.
• Prepare applications for State and Federal grant funding.
• Select consultants for consideration for City projects; write and process requests for proposals and consultant agreements and contracts.
• Make recommendations on street lighting design and wattage.

Minimum Qualifications

You have: 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Three (3) years of engineering experience in transportation with one (1) year of the experience being after acquiring the Professional Engineering License. 

Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in transportation engineering or closely related field. 

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's license at time of appointment. Possession of a certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer, Electrical Engineer, or Traffic Engineer in the State of California.  

OTHER REQUIREMENTS 
Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment: ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, climb and lift up to 30 pounds and to work outdoors or in a confined workspace.

Under general supervision, provides clerical and administrative support to a department head, division head, section supervisor and/or supervisory and professional staff within a variety of City departments.  Typical functions may include, but are not limited to reception, word processing, record keeping, and filing.  May also perform related work as assigned.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Office Specialist I – This is the entry-level class in the Office Specialist series.  Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn office and City procedures.  As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines.  The Office Specialist I class includes part-time and temporary positions with incumbents available to provide relief support to a variety of City departments.  This class is alternately staffed by the Office Specialist II class.  Full-time incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher class.

Program Assistant - Receptionist

Salary Range: $18.52 - $30.68/hour, depending on experience.

DEFINITION

Perform a wide variety of general clerical and/ or operational support duties at the Danville Community Center and/ or Senior Center. Incumbent serves as the facility receptionist, assisting with customer service-related questions and issues, and directing callers and visitors according to established procedures.
 

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position.
• 0-20 hours per week; not-to-exceed 950 hours per calendar year.

SUPERVISION

Direct supervision is received from the Administrative Assistant with indirect supervision from the Recreation Superintendent. May exercise supervision of part-time personnel and volunteers as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:

• Serve as first point of contact with the public; responds to information requests regarding services, classes, and events offered by the Town by email, in person or over the phone.

Experience:

A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Answer emergency and non-emergency police related phone calls, help prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.  A Dispatcher I may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

QUALIFICATIONS

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type and learn the operation of other standard office equipment; a willingness to work varying shifts; and to learn radio dispatching skills. 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The City of Pleasant Hill offers a competitive compensation and benefits program.

• Salary:  $6,455 to $8,321 per month. Effective 7/1/2025, 3.5% COLA ($6,681 to $8,612/month).

This is an hourly, part-time position working up to 19 hours per week. It is not a benefited position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Equivalent to graduation from a Physician Assistant program from an accredited institution approved by the Physician Assistant Board of California (PAB) and one year of clinical experience in a health-related occupation; OR
• Equivalent to completion of a graduate-level Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited institution approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
