ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic people to work within our After School Sports and Mobile Recreation programs operated out of Red Morton Community Center. The hours of this position could be Monday through Friday, from 3:30pm-8:30pm during the school year, but nighttime and weekend hours will be mandatory depending on special events and program needs. During the spring and summer, duties will include, but are not limited to, serving as an assistant coach within our Junior Dribblers basketball program and assisting with mobile recreation activities at various parks and school sites. This position will work under the gym/field supervisor and report directly to the After School Sports Coordinator.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: work as a field attendant in our flag football leagues; work as a scorekeeper in our volleyball and basketball leagues; possess a firm understanding of league rules and policies; ensure that games and practices operated in a safe, inclusive environment; report any issues immediately to gym/ field supervisor and/or After School Sports Coordinator; address all parent and coaches in a professional manner; maintain and care for all sports and mobile rec equipment; follow departmental and city-wide rules and regulations as they relate to the supervision of sports program and general work procedures; assist with other programs within the Parks & Recreation Department, including but not limited to, facilities, special events, and other youth programs.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Provide gym/field oversite and coordination at various gyms and school sites within Redwood City; act in the capacity of lead scorekeeper or field supervisor; train new scorekeepers and/or field attendants as needed; possess a firm understanding of league rules and policies; ensure that games and practices operated in a safe, inclusive environment; report any issues immediately to After School Sports Coordinator; address all parent or league issues in a timely and professional manner; maintain and care for all sports and mobile rec equipment; follow departmental and city-wide rules and regulations as they relate to the supervision of sports program and general work procedures; assist with other programs within the Parks & Recreation Department, including but not limited to, facilities, special events, and other youth programs.

Recreation Leader I/II/III

Monthly Salary:
Recreation Leader I: $3,001-$3,648
Recreation Leader II: $3,392-$4,123
Recreation Leader III: $3,730-$4,535

Designation of Recreation Leader I, II or III will be dependent on experience. Eligible employees may receive bilingual pay premium (additional 2.5% for verbal and 2.5% for written bilingual skills).

The Recreation Services Division provides programs and activities for Half Moon Bay residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors.  Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events.

The Recreation Leader, is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

• Organize and lead recreational activities.
• Complete class registration and rental facility applications.
• Enforce observance of required safety precautions and City guidelines.
• Admit patrons to recreation facilities, programs, and events.
• Implement procedures to provide for the safety and welfare of all users engaged in activities in City facilities.
• Create and distribute flyers and promotional materials to promote recreation activities and programs.
• Maintain attendance and activity records.
• Set up and issue equipment, collects and stores equipment after use.
• Provide basic customer service.
• Facilitate rentals and usage of City facilities. 
• Perform related duties, as assigned.

• The ability to speak English clearly and understandably.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Must possess current ARC Water Safety Instruction certification. WSI certification is preferred but no required. CPR certification within 6 months of hire. ABA training is a desired skill. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and react quickly to emergencies.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency and providing care according to the level of training.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working with children and wish to make a difference! Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an in-person interview. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours September through April, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings.

• Must be flexible regarding scheduling as it is based on business demands to include some weekend and holiday availability. We are flexible around school schedules.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, Lifeguards will ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies
• Maintaining constant surveillance of patrons in the facility
• Acting immediately and appropriately to ensure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency/Providing emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
• Performing various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
• Having a thorough knowledge of rescue techniques

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced water aerobics instructor with the ability to work with all ages, including but not limited to those over the age of 55. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the implementation and planning of water aerobics course to be held at the George M Silliman Community Activity Center.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Senior Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs and the upcoming to work at the year-round Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working in aquatics and with children, who wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! Swimming experience is required. Additional program training will be provided once hired. Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an interview either in person, or via ZOOM and complete an in-person skills assessment. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.
