POSITION DETAILS:

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training:

• Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Experience:

• Two years of general maintenance experience performing field maintenance work within the assigned area of responsibility.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Class A driver license within one year (Landscape or Streets) of employment.
• Some positions may require possession of, or ability to obtain, an Electrical Hazards Awareness certificate within one year of employment.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, CPR and First Aid certifications within the first six months.
• Additional industry-specific certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.

Additional steps (Step F, Step G, and Step H) included in the salary range listed above are available to employees in this job classification after completion of five years of service (Step F), ten years of service (Step G), and 15 years of service (Step H), and one year at the prior step, and good performance evaluation.  Initial salary placement is typically at the entry point of the range unless the candidate has prior Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist experience which may warrant initial placement at a higher step.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting to fill the position of Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist in the Administrative Services & Human Resources/Risk Management Department, Facilities Division.

In this exciting opportunity, the Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist will work under direct supervision of the Facilities & Fleet Superintendent and will be responsible for maintaining and constructing all City buildings, structures, and park facilities. This role calls for a dynamic team player with outstanding communication and customer service skills, a positive attitude in the face of challenges, and a commitment to going the extra mile. It requires someone who can work independently, collaborate effectively as part of a team, and has experience supervising or coordinating work and overseeing the performance of others.

The Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist is distinguished from the Facilities Maintenance Specialist in that the Senior Specialist is expected to perform the more challenging and complex tasks and is expected to perform certain administrative functions in support of the Facilities Division. This role offers a blend of strategic oversight and hands-on work. You'll have the opportunity to lead initiatives that impact the community directly, such as energy efficiency upgrades, safety improvements, and facility renovations. These tasks include a range of semi-skilled construction and repair work involving the use of basic tools and trade-related equipment. Duties may involve repairing electrical equipment and wiring systems; fixing windows, doors, cabinets, and other building components; maintaining interior and exterior furniture such as tables, chairs, benches, and bookcases; performing general plumbing repairs and installations; and carrying out basic concrete and masonry work. 

Additionally, you must be able to diagnose mechanical problems and methodically troubleshoot any issues occurring with building systems, machines, and equipment. This role also serves as a trainer and provides leadership to the team on specific tasks and projects.
 

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The City of Gilroy’s Facilities Division, part of the Administrative Services Department, is responsible for maintaining and preserving the city’s public buildings and essential infrastructure. Our team ensures that city facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming for both staff and the community. We support a variety of city departments by providing responsive maintenance services, managing building improvement projects, and promoting energy efficiency. FIRST YEAR PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS:

• Assist in procurement efforts by obtaining vendor quotes for the installation of an HVAC system in the Annex server room.
• Assist with gathering and analyzing solar generation data to quantify the saving generated from the installation of solar panels at four city locations.
• Evaluate current Facilities Preventative Maintenance Program/Schedule and make recommendations for improvements and to include efficient work distribution to the Facilities team.

The Maintenance Instructor is responsible for all the classroom and on-the-job training activities relating to current bus maintenance for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), Caltrain, and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA).

• Develops classroom on-the-job training and exit examinations relating to SamTrans Core Maintenance Training Curriculum: Shop Safety and PM Procedures, Core Repair Skills, Air Brake Systems, HVAC Systems, Basic Electrical Systems, Multiplex and Charging Systems, Diesel Engine Electronic Controls, Diesel Engine Tune-up and Troubleshooting, Light Duty (hydraulic) Brake Systems, Vehicle Subsystems, HD Steering Hydraulic Systems, and Suspension Systems, Automatic Transmission, ACS Diagnostics & Repair, Fare Collection Equipment, Hybrid Drive Systems, Battery Electric Drive Systems and Fuel Cell Battery Electric Bus Systems, Camera System Maintenance & Repair, Medium Duty Gasoline Engines.
• Serves as one of the principal instructors.  Oversees and evaluates vendor provided training activities.
• Oversees on-the-job training activities, mentors, coaches, guides, and directs progressive maintenance training. Maintains written and electronic records and performs proficient evaluations. 
• Collaborates in the development and implementation of testing programs for bus maintenance personnel.
• Develops and implements all maintenance safety training programs in collaboration with the Safety Department and management. Certifies that District employees meet established requirements for Forklift Operation, Hazardous Materials First Responder, First Aid, CPR, and AED Training.
• Oversees the District’s maintenance training programs.

Examples of Duties

• Stays current with new developments in the field of Training and Adult Learning Strategies.  Assesses the effectiveness of in-house training programs and recommends program upgrades with presented examples.
• Conducts skills gap assessments.  Develops a comprehensive training curriculum for all mechanic classifications, including Utility Workers, and reviews and updates as needed based on current technologies.
• Stays current with new technologies as they pertain to District fleets.
• Collaborates on all maintenance programs regarding quality assurance, makes recommendations where necessary to ensure the quality of the workforce training programs, and works with appropriate maintenance management staff to ascertain requirements and changes within industry best practices.
• Helps plan, organize, and execute the SamTrans Maintenance Rodeo and competition teams.  Mentors and coaches the maintenance team at the regional and international competition.
• Assumes the duties of Chair and/or Secretary of the joint Labor-Management Maintenance Training Committee.
• Ensure core curricula follows all regulatory and safety requirements, and best practices.
• Develops and implements training programs for newly hired employees.
• Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect self, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm.  Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to: 

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Six (6) years of related progressive full-time experience as an automotive/truck diagnostic technician, repair technician, or instructor.
• Experience assessing and training others in a classroom or shop environment is required.
• Experience with powertrain electronic controls, on-board Hi-Voltage systems, on-board Hi-pressure systems, ABS, HVAC, and PLC systems is required. 
• Strong oral and written communications skills.  Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs.
• Demonstrated journey level mechanic experience showing knowledge, expertise and ability to troubleshoot advanced systems and make repairs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Zero emission technology including battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell experience highly desired.
• Experience in conducting skills and needs assessment surveys desired.

The City of Dixon is looking to fill two full-time, regular positions for the position of Wastewater System Operator I/II in the Engineering Department and to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies. This position will perform the operation and maintenance of the City of Dixon's ("City"), Grade III, activated sludge wastewater facility, laboratory facilities, industrial pretreatment program related property and equipment.

This position includes field, laboratory and office activities. Field activities involve exposure to noxious odors, dangerous gases, strong acids, heights, confined spaces, extremes in weather conditions, hazardous materials, airborne particles, noise, water hazards, heavy equipment operation and traffic hazards. Wastewater System Operator I: This is the entry level class in the Wastewater Systems Operator series and requires a Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the State of California.

Wastewater System Operator II: This is the journey level class in the Wastewater Systems Operator series and requires a Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the State of California and is a fully qualified plant operator certified to independently operate a grade III wastewater treatment facility.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. Facilities Maintenance Technician II (journey-level class in the classification series)

Responsible for performing the full range of maintenance duties at City buildings and facilities in order to ensure that all are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for City and public use. Incumbents are responsible for performing maintenance and alterations on buildings and facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, identifying and evaluating construction-related problems, and performing installation and repairs on plumbing systems. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician in that the latter is responsible for technical and functional supervision of lower level maintenance staff and is capable of performing the most complex duties assigned to the series.

Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician (advanced journey-level class in the classification series)

Responsible for providing lead supervision and training to facilities maintenance staff. Incumbents regularly work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgment, including performing the most complex duties required to ensure City buildings, facilities, and grounds are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. Responsibilities include training, developing and scheduling Facilities Maintenance Technicians, inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of City buildings, facilities and grounds. Positions in this classification rely on experience and judgment to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the assigned section. The work involves problem-solving of unique issues or increasingly complex problems without precedent and/or structure. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver work products.

Positions in the Facilities Maintenance Technician class series are flexibly staffed and positions are normally filled by advancement from the previous level; progression to the next level is subject to management approval and is dependent on the incumbent (i) performing the full range of duties assigned to their current level, and (ii) acquiring the knowledge, skill, and experience necessary to meet the minimum qualifications for the next level of the series.
