Job Description

Under general supervision, the 8562 Counselor, Juvenile Hall, is responsible for the care, custody, safety and welfare of juveniles detained at Juvenile Hall.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to: 

1. Observes behavior of detainees in an assigned living unit; directs detainees in the upkeep of personal hygiene, during mealtimes, and while cleaning the unit; maintains appropriate close supervision over detainees to prevent negative incidents; provides appropriate discipline; consults with supervisors regarding disciplinary problems; conducts regular state mandated security checks of rooms; monitors visiting sessions to ensure the safety and security of detainees and counselors.

2. Inspects windows, locks doors when not in use, and keeps count of all detainees assigned to the unit; administers emergency first aid pending the arrival of medical staff; responds to emergency conditions which may require physically subduing and restraining hostile detainees to ensure the safety and security of the unit and the facilities.

3. Completes incident reports, behavior reports, individual case reports, and other departmental forms and reports; maintains the unit log book to ensure adherence to legal requirements. Maintains and updates electronic databases and case management systems.

4. Conducts ongoing individual and group counseling sessions with detainees by communicating rules, policies, expectations, and consequences; listens and responds to questions, concerns, complaints, and requests; provides assistance in working out problems to assist detainees.

5. Directs leisure time activities; teaches and encourages good sportsmanship.

6. Transports residents to and from various locations; directs and controls residents’ movement to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

7. Facilitates the admittance and release process of residents.

8. Confers with departmental personnel and representatives of outside agencies.

Qualifications

Education:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.

License and Certification:
Possession of a valid California driver license.
Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

Substitution:
Experience as a counselor in a juvenile detention facility or experience involving the organization, detention, or suspension of youth groups in a recreational or correctional program may substitute for up to two (2) years of the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. One (1) year equals thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units.

San Mateo County Health is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Public Health Clinics Strategic Projects Manager. This management position will report to the Public Health Clinics Manager, overseeing Edison Clinics and Mobile Clinics and will have broad project management responsibility for key strategic efforts affecting the Public Health clinics.
 
There is currently one regular vacancy in the Public Health, Policy and Planning Division located in San Mateo, CA.
 
Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:  

• Quality assurance and improvement:  build and visualize data in management reports and dashboards; convert data to information and use it to guide process improvement.
• Process improvement:  facilitate, document, track, organize, measure progress; e.g., conduct improvement work within daily huddles.
• Project management:  lead projects and provide ad hoc support of projects.
• Knowledge management:  inventory and maintain infrastructure of core programmatic documents and processes, how files are stored and shared.

• Policy and procedures facilitation:  maintain inventory and lead update processes through completion, including occasional initial literature reviews or research and coordination of stakeholders.
• Change management and leadership synchronization:  coordinate staff engagement, training, feedback to ensure successful system changes, take meeting minutes, contribute to agendas, track on-going project work in support of meeting goals.

Ideal candidate will possess:  

• Experience with project management and process improvement as the lead.
• Knowledge and/or experience with:  County of San Mateo; health; people experiencing homelessness; HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
• Data skills including: requirements gathering; ad hoc report building; data and dashboard management.

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, or a related field. At least one year of professional administrative experience is typically required at the Associate Management Analyst level, and at least 3 years for the Management Analyst level.

Licenses and Certifications: 

• Depending upon assignment, possession of a valid California Driver's License.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for the position of Police Cadet (3 positions available).  This is an excellent job opportunity for students interested in law enforcement.  Under direct supervision, this fixed-term/limited term, civilian position provides general and specific information and assistance to the public.  The position also provides logistical assistance to all police department functions.  The primary assignments for the Cadet position are crime prevention, patrol support, and records/front office support.

Salary

Child Care Aide: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.

CHILD CARE AIDE

This position will work directly with a Child Care Site Coordinator or Lead Teacher at varying pre-school or K-6/ K-8 school sites based on program needs. The Child Care Aide is responsible for leading activities and supervising small groups of children in State-funded Title V programs.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assisting staff in implementing youth recreation activities, sports, arts, crafts, and other age-appropriate activities
• Maintaining discipline, site safety and observe the overall physical and emotional well-being of the program participants

CHILD CARE ASSOCIATE TEACHER

This position is responsible for leading activities and supervision of small groups of children at a State-funded Title V program.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assisting staff in implementing youth recreation activities, sports, arts, crafts, and other age-appropriate activities.
• Maintaining discipline, site safety and observe the overall physical and emotional well-being of the program participants.

Step 2:  Written Examination: Applicants for the Sheriff’s Correctional Officer have four options for meeting the written examination requirement – (a) submittal of a valid and passing T-Score on the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) exam dated within the last 12 months prior to the date of application or (b) possession of a passing score on the National Testing Network (NTN) Corrections REACT Examination dated within the last 12 months prior to the date of application or (c) possession of a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation certification (CDCR) or possession of an Adult Corrections Officer Core completion certificate from a certified Standard and Training for Corrections (STC) academy from the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) or (d) possession of an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university. 

 

a) POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB): This exam must be completed in less than 2.5 hours, and it must be passed with a minimum T-Score of 42. To schedule for the exam, visit the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium's website at: www.theacademy.ca.gov.  

 

b) National Testing Network (NTN) Corrections REACT Exam: Passing scores accepted for this exam are Video Judgement Test 65% or higher; Reading 75% or higher; and Count 70% or higher. This examination is administered directly by the National Testing Network, and it may be taken virtually or in person at testing sites nationwide. d) Possession of an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university. 

NOTE: PELLETB Test scores or results from other training organizations or law enforcement agencies will be accepted so long as they meet California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TESTING

PELLETB: Applicants can complete the PELLETB exam at the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium. The areas covered by the test include spelling, vocabulary, clarity, reading and CLOZE (use contextual clues to complete a passage that contains missing words). Applicants are responsible for contacting South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium and self-enrolling in the required written exam. National Testing Network (NTN) Corrections REACT Examination (Online option): Applicants can register with NTN and schedule for the written examination by visitingwww.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select “Find Jobs”, then select “Corrections Jobs” and sign up for [San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office]. You must take the examination first before applying. Candidates who have already completed the National Testing Network (NTN) examination may submit their results through NTN to our agency. The exam must have been taken within one year of your submitted application. Candidates must meet the minimum passing scores. Acceptance of NTN exam scores are subject to verification with National Testing Network.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Education: 
A high school graduate or passing the General Education Development (GED) test or other high school equivalency test approved by CDE, or completion of at least 30 college units from an accredited or approved institution to apply.

Oral Interview: Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a panel interview with the Sheriff’s Office Professional Standards Bureau.

 

Physical Agility Exam: Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a physical agility test which may include, but is not limited to, the following events: weight drag, obstacle course, fence/wall climb and 1.5 mile run completed in 15 minutes or less.

This is a non-sworn, civilian training classification to be used while incumbent is attending a certified P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy.  Incumbent in this classification receives the same employee benefits as Police Officers, with the exception of being placed in the “Miscellaneous” retirement category until successful completion of a designated police academy, and as a civilian employee, will not be covered by government code sections 4850 and 3300 through 3311.  Upon successful completion of an academy, incumbent shall be sworn as a Police Officer, placed in the safety retirement category and begin an 18-month probationary period as a Police Officer on the date of swearing in. 

Education: 

• High school graduate or its equivalent. 
• Completion of 30 semester (or equivalent quarter) units from an accredited college or university preferred. 

Physical Capabilities/Vision:

• Must be capable of performing the full range of work assigned to a Police Officer free from physical, mental or emotional restrictions, which would adversely impact job performance.
