The Public Works Maintenance Superintendent (Streets) is a management-level role within the Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for overseeing the operation of construction and maintenance equipment, street and sidewalk repairs, street drainage system maintenance, and graffiti abatement.

Key duties for this role include:

The Code Enforcement Officer is distinguished from the Supervisor by performing work of moderate difficulty and more routine tasks and duties assigned to this position within this classification series. The Code Enforcement Officer will respond to citizen concerns and proactively identify violations such as property maintenance issues, and zoning infractions. You will educate the public on code requirements through clear and respectful communication and work collaboratively with other city departments and external agencies to resolve issues. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

In this role, you'll perform a variety of challenging and rewarding tasks, including installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment critical to the plant’s operations. Primary Responsibilities

• Identifies and performs a variety of maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and modifications on wastewater treatment plant mechanical equipment and facilities, including but not limited to:
  • Mechanical grinders, pumps, valves, engines, blowers, motorized valves actuators, lab equipment, air compressors, etc.
  • Industrial grade machinery, boilers, digester equipment, bulk chemical storage and delivery systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and devices.
  • Fabricates and or modifies equipment mounts, brackets, supports, utilizing welding, drilling, milling, tapping, etc. 

• Coordinates activities with operations personnel and contractors to ensure efficient and streamlined operations
• Completes and maintains maintenance logs on the City's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Responds to night and weekend emergency calls as needed

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff. Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Requirements: Must have the ability to  learn Midpen lands, pertinent laws and regulations and contact, educate and inform the public about the lands and regulations ; administer first aid and CPR; operate and maintain various power tools and equipment; operate two-way radios; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; and other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated around regular days/hours of operations.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (Thursdays/Fridays off).  Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits.

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

• Oversee the end-to-end procurement process for IT goods, services, and consultants, ensuring compliance with Valley Water policies, organizational requirements, and industry best practices. This includes leading, planning, and overseeing complex procurements for accuracy and compliance.
• Negotiate, prepare, and administer contracts for IT-related procurements to ensure organizational needs are met and compliance by vendors is maintained.

The Position 

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking an innovative and proactive Deputy Community Development Director – Operations with a forward-thinking perspective who will: 

• Oversee a portion of the Planning Division, code compliance, open space planning, CDBG/housing, and  administrative services. Manages administrative support to the department and establishes methods, procedures, and standards for office services.  

• Manage department-wide special projects and process improvement initiatives, including e-planning and e-permitting through a new land management system implementation,  

• Develops and implements organization development programs, department’s training programs, and coordinates agency personnel related issues, which may include payroll. 

• Develops and administers the operating budget for the department.   

• Supervises management information systems of the department, including, but not limited to, computer and software support, maintaining records and archives, and developing and maintaining a variety of databases.    

• Assist in integrating the City’s vision, goals, and people strategy with the business strategy of the Community Development Department. 

• Direct, plan, and organize Community Development services, programs, budget, and operations.  

• Manage budgeting, resource allocation, and performance metrics to optimize department efficiency and service delivery. 

• Craft and implement department and City objectives, goals, policies, and performance metrics within guidelines established by the City Council and City Manager.  

• Exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion along with political acumen and an understanding of the needs of the business community.

Under general supervision of the Fleet & Facilities Superintendent, our Equipment Mechanics perform both routine and complex repairs, diagnoses, and preventive maintenance services on a variety of automotive, construction, and specialized municipal vehicles and equipment, both gasoline and diesel fueled. The employee in the Senior Equipment Mechanic job classification is required to be fully trained in all fleet shop procedures and have strong knowledge of all apparatuses, vehicles, and equipment in the City fleet. The goal of the Fleet Division is to provide high quality repair and maintenance services to all city-owned vehicles, heavy trucks and equipment.

Under general supervision, the Electro-Mechanic performs skilled electrical/electronic and mechanical work to diagnose, maintain, repair, rebuild, overhaul, service, inspect, and test light rail transit vehicles and equipment.

About the Light Rail Maintenance Department

Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Maintenance is located at the Guadalupe Light Rail Division. LRV Maintenance is responsible for timely and reliable maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspections, repair and servicing of light rail vehicles and service equipment.

After a light rail vehicle returns from revenue service at the end of each day, Maintenance performs an interior inspection/walk-through of the vehicle, analyzes the Operator Defect Card, performs a visual inspection of the vehicle undercarriage, performs exterior and interior cleaning, cleans and repairs windows and seating, and removes and repairs graffiti and vandalism.

Essential Job Functions

Typical Tasks

• Performs safety and preventive maintenance inspections of vehicles, systems and equipment;
• Documents defects, maintenance and repairs;
• Tests, maintains, repairs, and overhauls light rail vehicle electrical, electronic and mechanical systems and equipment in accordance with schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, operations manuals and manufacturer instructions;

• Performs re-railing of equipment;

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards
Training and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and four years of experience in the maintenance and repair of electrically powered rail transit vehicles.

OR

Training and experience equivalent to completion of a two-year degree in electronic technology and two years of experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of electro-mechanical systems similar to those found in VTA light rail vehicles.

OR

Demonstrated experience and training equivalent to a high school diploma and four years of experience in a maintenance environment working on systems similar to those found in a light rail vehicle including air conditioning, DC motors, generators, circuit diagrams, lighting and electrical troubleshooting.

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to qualify for and maintain a Class B license with passenger (P) endorsement and a maintenance LRV operation certification.

Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and odd and unusual hours.
