The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into several divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Read Santa Clara, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library is in the process of finalizing and implementing its new Strategic Plan that will support the direction of future library services. 

Position

Read Santa Clara, the adult and family literacy program of the Santa Clara City Library, has offered English as a Second Language (ESL) services since 2023, as part of a state grant project. The ESL Program Assistant provides 1:1 and small group tutoring for limited English-speaking adults to strengthen their basic English speaking and listening skills and help achieve their goals. This position works with and reports to the ESL Program Specialist and Literacy Program Supervisor. This position is responsible for supporting literacy volunteers, assessing adult learners’ literacy needs, and documenting program data for grant reporting.  The ideal candidate has a passion for serving adults with limited English language skills from historically underserved communities.

This is a grant funded position for 15 hours a week till June 30, 2026. The position’s continuation beyond this date is subject to the availability of grant funds.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Assist with assessing the language skills of adults with limited English-speaking skills and who do not speak English as a first language
• Tutor 1:1 and small groups at the library and at various community outreach sites
• Offer support to learners in meeting their goals
• Assist in recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to support small groups in the library and at community sites
• Be culturally sensitive and responsive to the needs of learners from diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds
• Work at school sites to help parents/caregivers during school hours
• Work closely with the ESL Program Specialist and community partners to meet community needs
• Assist with collecting and maintaining accurate data in a timely manner for grant reporting

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent work experience

Minimum Experience Requirements:

One or more years of experience working/volunteering in adult literacy/parent education, ESL or basic literacy tutoring

The Santa Clara County Housing Authority (SCCHA) is seeking a Risk Analyst to join our highly collaborative and dedicated team in advancing the Housing Authority’s risk management and insurance programs. The Risk Analyst will have the opportunity to expand their expertise in risk management, insurance programs, and property mitigation. They will also gain experience in policy development, analytical research, and strategic planning, providing a comprehensive approach to risk management. The Risk Analyst will evaluate, design, and coordinate SCCHA’s risk management efforts, including insurance programs, property and construction risk, and claims management programs. In the first year, the Risk Analyst will improve claims/incident report protocols, evaluate and enhance SCCHA’s existing risk management and insurance programs, including researching insurance options in the face of rising insurance costs, and administer SCCHA’s insurance policies and manage insurance-related claims and negotiations.

This is a paraprofessional supervisory position in the classified service. Positions in this class are responsible for the supervision and direction of a work unit comprised of paraprofessional, clerical and/or Library Page staff. This recruitment is to fill a position at the Northside Branch Library. The person in the position will work closely with the Northside Library Program Coordinator in maintaining and improving day to day operations, customer service, effective material circulation and distribution, scheduling staff and volunteers, and may act as the back-up person in charge.  May also develop and support branch programming with librarians. This person should have strong communication skills, a team mindset and community-based outlook.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Three (3) years’ experience in customer or public service; paraprofessional library work; communication or digital communication; library technical services that may include ordering, procurement, cataloging, maintaining financial records and vendor engagement; community outreach or bookmobile operation. Of the required experience one (1) year shall include supervising the work of others or as a project leader AND one (1) year of experience must involve customer or public service or paraprofessional library work.

Acceptable Substitution:

• Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one (1) year of experience for thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units up to two (2) years.

• Completion of an Associate of Arts degree in Library Technology may substitute for the required education, plus one (1) year of the required experience. This experience shall not be substituted for the one (1) year of experience supervising the work of others or as a project leader OR one (1) year of experience involving customer or public service or paraprofessional library work.

License/Certifications:

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications:

Two (2) years or more of customer service or public library experience

Department of Public Works
The City of Santa Clara's Department of Public Works seeks a results-oriented and innovative engineer to serve out the Department's mission to provide the highest quality public works services to the residents of Santa Clara, the development community, and our customers in a responsible and efficient manner. The Department has focus areas that include Engineering Services and Operations and Maintenance. Engineering Services is comprised of five divisions: Administration, Traffic, Design, Land and Property Development, and Field Services. Operations and Maintenance include public roadways, parkways and boulevards, City trees, street sweeping, environmental programs, storm drain systems, fleet, solid and mixed waste/recyclables, and City facilities. The Traffic Engineering Division provides traffic engineering (technical support for the design and construction of both City and private development projects), traffic impact analysis reviews for private development projects and transportation projects, bicycle and pedestrian improvement planning, grant administration, and traffic signal maintenance and operation services for the City. The division receives and investigates resident/business inquiries related to street parking, traffic calming, intersection control (i.e signals, beacons, and crosswalks), and bicycling and pedestrian travel on public streets. The investigations may involve interaction with the residents, field review, traffic data collection, and evaluation of collected information with established city policies to prepare engineering recommendations for possible improvements. The division also focuses on multi-modal planning and implementation specifically related to the goals and projects included with the City’s Bicycle Plan,  Pedestrian Masterplan, and the City’s Complete Streets policy. Finally, this division coordinates with other agencies such as the Valley Transportation Authority, County of Santa Clara Roads and Airports, Caltrans,
 and the cities of San Jose, Cupertino, and Sunnyvale related to projects, programs, and grant opportunities. Experience in customer service, traffic design and construction, transportation planning, and project management and delivery is essential to success in this position.

Under direct supervision, the Associate Engineer (Civil) performs field and office work, reviews and approves designs for traffic control, traffic improvement, and private development related public improvements, administers grants, provides technical assistance in the implementation of transportation plans and programs (i.e. Bicycle Master Plan, Pedestrian Master Plan, Complete Streets Policy), supports the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, and will work with the public and consultants on various projects and transportation related inquiries.[CM1] 

 

Water & Sewer Utilities Department
Santa Clara Water & Sewer Utilities' mission is to provide customers a dependable supply of safe, potable water, environmentally-sound wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal. Furthermore, recycled water is offered for approved uses including irrigation and industrial processes, where available. Programs and services are designed and implemented with economic and environmental benefits in mind. The City of Santa Clara's Water & Sewer Utilities Department seeks an engineer with excellent project management skills; strong oral and written communication skills; a proven record of preparing and administering consultant contracts and agreements; experience preparing construction documents; experience designing, managing, maintaining and/or operating water, recycled water and sanitary sewer utilities; experience reviewing land development projects; experience working in a team environment on major construction projects, including working collaboratively with contractors, technicians, field staff, outside agency staff, and the general public. Under direct supervision, the Associate Engineer (Civil) performs high-level, fast paced engineering work relating to the permitting, design and construction of water, recycled water,  and sewer projects within the City. In addition, the Associate Engineer prepares construction documents such as improvement plans, specifications, estimates and schedules for water and sewer projects. As well as procures consultant and construction contracts for the design and construction of water and sewer projects including the preparation of requests for proposals (RFP), administration of the bidding and awarding process, preparation of Council agenda items, and administration of the consultant and construction contracts. This incumbent will review new developments and proposed public and/or commercial utilities improvement projects for compliance with City, County, State and Federal government regulations and standards. The Associate Engineer is expected to plan, organize, and prioritize a diverse workload of projects and tasks including technical and administrative tasks, and exercise independent judgment and decision making in resolving problems.

About the Position:  Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) is seeking an Information Systems & Technology (IST) Intern in the Information Systems & Technology Department. The IST Intern will be exposed to government information technology and will receive on-going support and training while working collaboratively and establishing and maintaining open communication with all District Staff. They will gain applicable experience to prepare them for an IT Technician job. This intern will also participate in new cybersecurity projects, software integration and provide hands-on helpdesk support in a hybrid work environment.

Duties and responsibilities of the IST intern may include: responding to daily IT help-desk requests; engaging in proactive problem solving and repairing of IT related equipment and systems; assisting in modifying and maintaining existing applications such as but not limited to Windows 10/11 and Office365 applications; supporting, performing research, and executing IT projects as assigned; and providing user support for software applications and technical expertise to all staff regarding the District’s computer network system. The expected start date for this position is in early December 2025.

Basic Requirements:   Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). Current enrollment in an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program, or trade school in a relevant field. Overview:
The Grants, Compliance, and Claims Management Unit with Valley Water is the centralized unit for seeking and managing grants brought in to help fund Valley Water projects. The pre-award side of work within the unit will be administered by this Senior Management Analyst, with support from a Management Analyst II, and oversight by the Grants Unit Manager.
 
Senior Management Analyst (SMA): Core components of the Senior Management Analysts work will include researching grant opportunities and writing grant applications; high levels of collaboration with project teams, grants liaisons in watersheds and water utility divisions, procurement, legal, government relations, capital improvement program, and communications; and tracking/reporting. The position will tie efforts into the two grant roadmaps (i.e. strategic funding plans), assist in preparing updates to the Board and staff via all employee communications, and aid in early compliance reviews (pre-agreement) to ensure Valley Water can meet grant terms and conditions. As a Senior, the position will help implement new grants management software on the pre-award side in coordination with the unit’s compliance and claims staff, assist in updating standard operating procedures, and work with the Unit Manager to clearly define rationale for which grants to pursue.

Management Analyst II: Core components of the Management Analyst II's work will include assisting the SMA in researching grant opportunities and writing grant applications, coordinating with project teams, tracking and reporting grant-related information, assisting with compliance tracking for federal and state grant terms and conditions, and assisting with grant communications such as the bi-monthly Grants One Pager update for the Board of Directors and the Grants Action Team monthly meeting.

Definition
Under general supervision, the Senior Land Surveyor supervises and coordinates the activities of field and office surveying functions and assists the Survey and Mapping Manager with supervisory and administrative functions of the Survey Services Unit.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a single position classification responsible for assisting the Survey and Mapping Manager in supervising the efforts of subordinate personnel including surveyors, engineering technicians, and consultants. The Senior Land Surveyor can be assigned to any of the following areas: supervision of survey activities in the field for design and construction projects, supervision of office surveying functions such as mapping, writing legal descriptions, and production of accurate calculations used for engineering, real estate and construction activities.

This classification requires that the incumbent be licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of California or equivalent and possess specialized knowledge of land surveying techniques and construction surveying, with emphasis on technology such as GPS (Global Positioning System) methodology and instrumentation. This position will supervise professional and/or administrative staff, as well as identify the need for establishing and administering consultant contracts. This position works with other public agencies (e.g., Caltrans, local cities and counties, water district) to establish property exchanges and rights of way for transportation improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards

Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is typically obtained through training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in surveying science, engineering or a related field and a minimum of eight (8) years of technical surveying experience, at least three (3) years of which must have been in a position comparable to that of a field surveying Chief of Party and/or office surveying "Lead" Land Surveyor. Directly related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of California or equivalent is required at the time of appointment.

About the Department
The Parks and Public Works Department (PPW) is responsible for the maintenance and improvements of the Town's public parks, facilities, streets, and other infrastructure. Our goal is to efficiently provide residents, businesses, and visitors with the highest quality service possible, with dedication and professionalism. The Department has five service areas: Engineering, Capital Improvement, Streets and Signals, Parks, and Environmental Services. Additional steps (Step F, Step G, and Step H) included in the salary range listed above are available to employees in this job classification after completion of five years of service (Step F), ten years of service (Step G), and 15 years of service (Step H), and one year at the prior step, and good performance evaluations.  Initial salary placement is typically at the entry point of the range unless the candidate has prior Maintenance Worker experience which may warrant initial placement at a higher step.

Opportunity to work a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.

ABOUT THE POSITION
City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Senior Maintenance Worker position assigned to the Wastewater section within the Utilities Department, Operations Division. 
Wastewater section personnel are responsible for the wastewater collection system including inspecting, cleaning, maintaining, constructing, and repairing sanitary sewer lines and lift stations. Under direct supervision of the Operations Services Supervisor, this position performs and supervises maintenance work within the Wastewater section and acts for the supervisor in his/her absence or direction. 
The selected professional will develop leadership skills by supervising team members in the field while performing tasks such as sewer repairs, line cleaning, and closed-circuit television inspections. They will also gain experience in scheduling and planning work based on departmental priorities, supporting the supervisor, and learning to operate both independently and as part of a team.
