CIVIC FELLOW PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland has established a paid summer fellow program for individuals early in their career seeking public service experience. This program invests in our local workforce and fosters a passion for careers in the public sector. During the eight (8)-week program, fellows will work with a City department and participate in program-wide activities.

This fellow posting is for the Fleet Data & Asset Management Analyst Fellow in the Public Works Department.  

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland Public Works Department is seeking a motivated Civic Fellow to support and enhance fleet data management operations. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in municipal asset management and public sector budgeting.

The Civic Fellow will assist in updating and maintaining the City’s fleet management system, ensuring accurate records for vehicle assets, reserve fund balances, and fixed and variable rate information. Working closely with Public Works and Finance staff, the Fellow will help develop streamlined data management processes within the RTA fleet management software, improving operational efficiency and reporting accuracy.

This fellowship provides practical exposure to fleet asset tracking, financial record-keeping, and interdepartmental collaboration, equipping participants with valuable skills in data management, system implementation, and public sector operations setting the foundation for an exciting career in municipal government.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general directions from the designated City employee.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate is a detail-oriented, organized, and motivated student or recent graduate with a strong interest in data management, fleet operations, and asset management. They are eager to gain hands-on experience using fleet management software to maintain accurate vehicle asset records, reserve fund balances, and fixed and variable rate information.

This individual is proficient with computer software systems, including spreadsheets and data tracking tools, and demonstrates the ability to efficiently organize, analyze, and maintain electronic records. Experience with databases or enterprise systems, as well as the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software applications, is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, and thrives in a collaborative environment, working closely with Finance and Public Works staff. They are proactive, willing to ask questions, and committed to learning complex processes while contributing to improving data quality, record-keeping, and documentation practices.

 

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS
The goals of this position are to:

1. Accurately update fleet asset data in the City’s fleet management system (RTA), including vehicle asset records, reserve fund balances, and fixed and variable rate.

2. Accurately review existing records, identifying discrepancies or missing information, and coordinating with Public Works and Finance staff to verify and correct data.

3. Standardize and document data entry practices for fleet financial and asset information, including clear procedures for rate updates, reserve balance tracking, and vehicle record maintenance.

4. Improve data quality and reporting readiness by developing procedures to ensure fleet and financial records are complete, current, and aligned with internal reporting and budget preparation needs.

5. Provide technical support to other staff related to system use, data requests, and basic reporting from the fleet management system.

6. Develop a working understanding of municipal fleet operations and funding structures, including equipment replacement planning and reserve funding practices.

7. Contribute to continuous process improvement by identifying opportunities to improve data workflows, documentation, and coordination between Public Works and Finance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of high school
• Local Woodland knowledge preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders 
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Valid California driver license (if driving is an essential duty)

 

SALARY RANGE
$20.00 - $25.00 / hour dependent on experience.

 

The pay cycle is bi-weekly. No other benefits compensations are provided except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave. Employees must contribute 1.45% of their salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan under Federal Law.

The City of Dixon is recruiting qualified Lifeguard/Swim Instructor I/II applicants for the 2026 Aquatic season.

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Senior Lifeguard/Swim Instructor, Lifeguard/Swim Instructor performs a variety of duties to ensure the City of Dixon swimming pool is a safe and enjoyable aquatic facility. Supervises pool patrons, enforces pool rules, performs first aid and emergency rescues, instructs swim lessons, performs cashiering duties, leads recreational activities; performs related and other work as required.

Staff may be expected to work weekends and on fixed holidays.  Those who work on a City Holiday will earn 1 1/2 times their base hourly salary.

This position is subject to random controlled substance testing and/or breath alcohol testing.

Summary

Under general supervision, the Marketing Assistant assists in the planning and organization of registration, marketing, publicity, and community outreach efforts in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and implementation of social media strategies and campaigns
• Assist in the administration and maintenance of the District’s website
• Compile and maintain distribution lists for mailings and electronic communications
• Solicit feedback from participants and visitors through online surveys and distribute relevant response data to staff in the District units
• Promote District events, activities, facilities, and other special projects
• Support staff in District Units in the development of news releases, special event flyers/brochures, community announcements, project-based communications, or other communication methods

• Assist in the preparation and distribution of the Recreation Division Program Guides
• Answer, screen, and route phone calls from the public

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty* satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED and at least 2,000 hours of relevant work or volunteer experience, with at least 30 college units completed in recreation or a related field. An associate degree is preferred. Must be at least 18 years old. Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Canva, and a variety of social media platforms. 

Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to use common sense and excerise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers and participants and parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses: 

• Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment 
• A valid California Driver's License with a good driving record and current automobile insurance

Under general supervision, the Swim Instructor’s Aide assists in teaching swim lessons to persons of all ages. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Mandatory pre-season in-service training sessions will be held in June.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in developing lesson plans for aquatic activities and helps maintain pool records, including program registrations and safety reports. Provides First Aid and CPR when necessary and aids in teaching swimming lessons to participants of all ages. Follows city policies and procedures and performs other assigned duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Age Requirement:                                         

• At least 14 years of age

Experience:

• No prior experience necessary.
• Recommended exposure to swimming lessons instruction or working with young people in an organized environment and/or participation in the Junior Lifeguard program.

Knowledge of:           

• The City of Woodland’s Swim Lesson Program and basic pool policies and procedures.

Ability to:

• Communicate clearly, both in oral written forms.
• Collaborate well with colleagues and others encountered during work.
• Swim proficiently and showcase various swimming techniques. 

Certifications:

• Standard First Aid, CPR in adult, child, and infant (or equivalent)
• American Red Cross Water Safety Aide is recommended.
• Exposure to American Red Cross Lifeguard Training is desirable.

 

SALARY SCHEDULE

$16.90-$17.90 per hour, based on experience and years of service.

The City of Lincoln is hiring up to 6 part-time Assistant Pool Managers within the Recreation Department.  This position may require you to work various days, weekends or evenings.

Seasonal employees are limited to working no more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Under direction, assists in the overall operations of a swimming pool facility, and its assigned temporary employees; assists in the planning, organizing, coordination, development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of aquatic activities and programs for all ages.

The Assistant Pool Manager is the working lead class responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the pool and aquatics program. This class is distinguished from the next higher classification of Pool Manager in that the latter has overall responsibility for the pool operations, programs, and staff.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Pool Manager. Exercises indirect supervision over temporary and seasonal aquatics personnel; may exercise direct supervision in the Pool Manager’s absence.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Include but are not limited to the following:

• Assist in monitoring and supervision of the day-to-day operations of the aquatics program, which includes direction to lifeguards/instructors; enforce and explain pool regulations and policies; administer first aid and perform emergency rescues.
• Maintain proper health specifications, in restroom and locker areas and take all safety precautions.
• Manage the daily opening and closing of the facility.
• Assist in the oversight of proper sanitation and maintenance of pool water; ensure cleanliness of restrooms, dressing rooms, and public areas; report maintenance conditions affecting facility operation and security.
• Assist in the oversight of the safe and proper operations of assigned pool; ensure pool rules and safety guidelines are followed; maintain order with disruptive patrons and exercise crowd control where warranted; and refer escalated issues to assigned supervisor or proper authorities.
• Exercise lead/indirect supervision over all assigned staff including temporary and seasonal staff, independent contract instructors, and volunteers. Exercise direct supervision in the Pool Manager’s absence.
• Participate in the recruitment and hiring of temporary, part-time, or seasonal aquatics staff as required.
• Promote and enforce water safety procedures; effect swimming rescues; render first aid and CPR as required; ensure the safety of pool users and enforce all user rules and policies of the department.
• Complete, review, and file accident and incident reports; assist with follow-up related to reports; purchase, check, and maintain first aid equipment; perform daily safety checks and inspections of the facility and all equipment.
• Assist with employee schedules; complete reports on chemical tests; assist with the training of lifeguards and other aquatics staff; verify and check aquatics staff timecards; submit timecards to Pool Manager for approval; coordinate and facilitate staff meetings; assist with special events.
• Work with maintenance staff to ensure that pool facility maintenance procedures are followed.
• Keep the pool, pool deck, and auxiliary buildings/areas clean and free of litter and debris.
• Act as the Pool Manager in her/his absence.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when reading correspondence, statistical data and using a computer. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and equipment weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. The incumbent may use cleaning chemicals, or pool chemicals, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold and is required to swim.

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS
The following are a representative sample of the KSA’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge of: Modern principles and practices of aquatics programs; facilities, operations, and techniques used in aquatics programs; routine swimming pool maintenance, chlorinators, heaters, and other equipment used in a pool facility; current techniques in swim lesson instruction; basic pool chemistry, including chemicals used to disinfect water and maintain proper PH in a public pool; practices and principles of first aid and CPR lifesaving safety measures at a public pool; health and safety codes applicable to the operation of a public pool; principles and practices of customer service; modern office equipment, methods, and procedures; computer hardware and software; proper English, spelling, and grammar.

Ability to: Supervise and instruct individuals and groups in various aquatic and related recreational activities; plan and lead the work of volunteers, seasonal/part-time staff; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; interpret community demand for aquatic programs; successfully resolve a variety of customer service related matters; respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner; administer first aid and CPR; work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

WOODLAND JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT HOST SITE

Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) is partnering with the City of Woodland to host two fellows as part of this year’s Civic Fellowship Program. The fellows will work on-site at WJUSD Business Services Office and receive day-to-day guidance and supervision from WJUSD staff while remaining part of the fellowship cohort and participating in program-wide activities.

 

This posting is for the Environmental Impact Analyst Fellow within the Business Services Department, specifically in the Maintenance, Operations and Facilities at WJUSD.  

 

Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, up to 40 hours per week.

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities Department is seeking a motivated Civic Fellow to support the district’s sustainability and environmental stewardship efforts. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in sustainability practices, facilities operations, and process improvement within a public education setting.

The Civic Fellow will assist in assessing current district practices related to recycling, waste reduction, and resource conservation. This may include reviewing recycling programs, observing waste management practices at school sites, and identifying opportunities to improve sustainability efforts. Working closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities staff, the Fellow will help research best practices and develop practical recommendations to improve environmental outcomes and operational efficiency.

This fellowship provides practical exposure to sustainability planning, facilities management, and public sector operations, equipping participants with valuable skills in research, data analysis, environmental practices, and process improvement while contributing to the district’s commitment to responsible resource management.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general directions from the designated WJUSD host-site employee.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a motivated and detail-oriented individual with an interest in sustainability, environmental science, public administration, and/or facilities operations. The Civic Fellow should be comfortable conducting research, making observations, and working collaboratively with staff across multiple departments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn about sustainability practices. Interest in environmental responsibility, waste reduction, or operational efficiency is desirable. Experience with research, data collection, or spreadsheets is helpful but not required.

This position is well suited for someone who enjoys identifying practical solutions, working on real-world challenges, and contributing to efforts that improve environmental responsibility within a large organization.

 

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS

The goals of the position are to:

1. Assess current sustainability practices within Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities, including recycling programs, waste disposal practices, and resource conservation efforts.

 

2. Review existing procedures and practices related to recycling and waste reduction, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and environmental impact.

 

3. Research best practices from other school districts or public agencies related to sustainability, recycling programs, and waste reduction strategies.

 

4. Support the development of recommendations to improve recycling participation, reduce waste, and promote sustainable practices across district sites.

 

5. Assist in developing simple guidance materials or communication tools to help staff and students better understand sustainability practices.

 

6. Develop a working understanding of school district facilities operations and the role of sustainability in supporting efficient and responsible operations.

 

7. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying practical opportunities to strengthen sustainability practices and reduce environmental impact.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of high school
• Local Woodland knowledge preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders 
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Valid California driver license (if driving is an essential duty)

SALARY RANGE

$20.00 - $25.00 / hour dependent on experience.

The City of Lincoln is hiring up to 20 part-time Water Safety Instructors within the Recreation Department.  This position may require you to work various days, weekends or evenings.

Seasonal employees are limited to working no more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Under the direct or general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, performs a variety of duties to supervise the pool, decks, and additional areas of an aquatic facility; and provides swimming instruction.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Maintain constant surveillance as assigned to safeguard swimmers from drowning and other accidents.
• Maintain discipline and orderly conduct among patrons and enforce all pertinent City pool rules and regulations in order to maintain a safe environment. 
• Promote and enforce water safety procedures; effect swimming rescues; render first aid and CPR as required. 
• Assist in the planning, promoting and organizing of prescribed Red Cross programs and special events. 
• Perform pool facility maintenance functions as required. 
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service. 
• Prepare and maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports.
• Conduct classes at all participant levels (beginning through advanced) and supervise students and swim lesson aide (s).  
• Prepare daily lesson plans for assigned swim instruction classes.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Perform heavy manual labor; learn to operate a variety of equipment; work with tools related to recreational maintenance. The position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The incumbent needs to have the ability to hear and speak for purposes of communication. The position also requires both near and far vision when administering programs and operating equipment. The need to lift, carry and push equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. The incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold.

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS

The following are a representative sample of the KSA’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

The Digital Media & Communications Intern supports the Police Department by organizing and maintaining digital media assets, including photographs and video content. This candidate demonstrates proficiency with design and media tools (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar software) and has a foundational understanding of branding, layout, and visual storytelling. They are comfortable developing templates, flyers, brochures, and recruiting materials that align with established guidelines and messaging.

Strong organizational skills, the ability to manage and catalog digital assets, and a willingness to work collaboratively with department staff are essential to this position. The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  No other benefits compensations are provided except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave.  Employees must contribute 1.45% of their salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan under Federal Law.
