DESCRIPTION 

The City of Thousand Oaks Community Development Department is excited to announce a rewarding career opportunity for a motivated Associate Planner to join our dynamic team! As an Associate Planner, you will play a key role in shaping the community’s future by managing a variety of current and long-range planning projects.  Working under general supervision, you will:   

• Conduct professional Planning work involving land use, zoning, and community development.  

• Review, analyze, and process development applications of moderate to complex scope.  

• Prepare and present staff reports, plans, and recommendations to decision-making bodies. 

• Collaborate with residents, businesses, and stakeholders to promote thoughtful growth. 

• Contribute to long-range plans and projects that align with the City’s General Plan and vision.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Manage and process applications for development projects, including residential, mixed-use, commercial, industrial, and institutional proposals.  

• Facilitate in-person and virtual permit submittals.  

• Respond to phone and email inquiries. 

• Consult and advise property owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and the public regarding applications, City policies, codes, and other plans.   

• Prepare clear and concise technical documents, reports, correspondence and other written materials.  

• Exercise sound independent judgement.  

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work.   

• Attend and present information to City Council, Planning Commission, Administrative Hearing Officer, and community meetings as assigned.  

• Plans, organizes and conducts research studies and prepares recommendations regarding land use, zoning, urban design, population trends, transportation, housing and environmental needs, updates and analyzes demographic and other data required for the planning function, participates in the review, development or revision of the various of the General Plan, environmental impact reports, plans, ordinance and other policies and procedures.  

• Independently performs responsible and varied professional planning duties.  

• Provide sound recommendations based on detailed analysis and project evaluation.

Join Our Team -- Special Projects Associate (GIS Technician)

We are seeking a Special Projects Associate (working title:  GIS Technician) to support the Public Works & Engineering Department on a part-time basis.  This role is a great opportunity to gain practical experience in local government while contributing to projects that directly impact our community's infrastructure, planning, and day-to-day operations.

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a Senior Purchasing Specialist to join our team!

We are seeking an enthusiastic, service-oriented team player who thrives in a busy, fast-paced environment. As part of the Finance Department’s Purchasing Team, the Senior Purchasing Specialist will perform a variety of functions in supporting the City’s purchasing policies and processes.

• Receives, examines, analyzes, and processes purchase requisitions and purchase orders according to City and department policies and procedures; ensures that information is correct and documentation is complete; corrects errors as necessary
• Reviews formal solicitations such as bids and requests for proposals/qualifications (RFP/Q) and posts formal solicitations on City’s procurement portal
• Reviews and facilitates informal solicitations for departments
• Trains City staff on purchasing policies and processes
• Oversees the maintenance of solicitation records, commodity/sub-commodity lists, and other purchasing and inventory files
• Negotiates, manages, and monitors Citywide contracts
• Oversees the maintenance and validation of vendor account information

This is a seasonal, part-time position for the Parks & Grounds division.

Under the general supervision of a Public Works Streets Supervisor or Parks & Grounds Supervisor, and direction of a Maintenance II lead, incumbents in this classification assist with the cleanup and maintenance of City parks, streets, and satellite facilities including buildings, equipment, bus stops, parking lots, trails, flora and landscapes; and perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Emptying garbage cans.
• Picking up litter and other illegal dumping.
• Raking and spreading material including, but not limited to, asphalt, mulch, gravel, and soil.

THE POSITION:

The City of Hayward is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director of Finance to oversee its centralized financial operations. Reporting directly to the City Manager, this executive role provides leadership in accounting, budgeting, treasury, revenue collection, licensing, purchasing, and data systems. The Director serves as the City's Chief Financial Officer, managing the preparation and oversight of the annual operating and capital improvement budgets, ensuring audit compliance, and maintaining strong internal controls. Additionally, the role advises the City Manager and Council on fiscal matters, promotes transparency and efficiency, and leads a dedicated team committed to service excellence and innovation. The Director also acts as Treasurer-Controller for the East Bay Dischargers Authority and supports programs such as the Rent Review Board.
