DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs a variety of preventative maintenance, repairs, and installation of water pollution control plant, sewage pumping facilities, and equipment; maintains accurate maintenance records; orders and maintains an inventory of supplies, parts, and other frequently used items; and performs related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker I is distinguished from Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker II in that the Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker II level requires a higher level of certification and is able to perform a broader range of duties more independently.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED 

Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff in assigned department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below are illustrative only and are not meant to be a full and exhaustive listing of all of the duties and responsibilities of the position.

• Maintains and repairs pumps, motors, plumbing, electrical, and exercise and lubricate machinery within the plant; records and maintains accurate maintenance records in a daily log book;
• Orders supplies and materials; orders inventory of frequently used parts, oil, and filters for equipment used in the plant;
• Completes monthly work orders and enters information regarding maintenance tasks into the system; records SCADA; records hours on equipment and meters; makes entries into the end of the month report and prints work order summary;
• Generates new maintenance work orders for each month; prioritizes tasks to be performed on Water Pollution Control Plant equipment;
• Performs cleanup of the plant, removing trash, washing down decks, and clearing leaves and branches from storm drains; cleans tools and makes sure equipment is in proper locations and power tools are in safe working condition;
• Changes oil and filters on various pumps and compressors in the plant; maintains safety inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and ladders in the plant;
• Removes and replaces packing from various pumps in the plant; installs new rings of packing with new Lantern rings if damaged; applies grease to the new set of packing for proper lubrication; removes corrosion or debris from packing gland before reinstalling;
• Evaluates pump performance and flow rate to determine if pump has excessive buildup of rags that is affecting its performance and efficiency; shuts down pumps to remove rags from impeller and clears any obstructions;
• Replaces damaged parts/fittings on leaking chemical feed pumps; makes alterations to existing supply tubing or fittings, replacing clamps or O-rings, or removing debris caught in the check valves; inspects, tests, calibrates, adjusts, cleans, and paints equipment in the water pollution control plant; and
• Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Principles, practices, and techniques of the installation, maintenance, and repair of water treatment plan systems; operation of various hand and power tools; proper procedures to safely perform maintenance on machinery and equipment in the plant; maintenance for MP2 program; recording and updating repair history on water pollution control plant equipment; how to create new work orders and close out completed work orders; forklift operations and scissor lift; replacing, repairing, and installing piping, fittings, and valves on water pollution control equipment; data entry of important, vital information regarding maintenance repairs; performance and evaluation on future preventative maintenance in the WPCP MP2 program; proper protective equipment.

Ability to: Drive and operate vehicles and equipment safely; keep inventory, order, and stock necessary parts and supplies for the maintenance shop; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; adhere to prescribed policies, procedures, routines, and practices; carry out assignments with minimal instructions; read and understand written instructions, maps, equipment operation manuals, and other written documents associated with the work; effectively schedule work; effectively keep written records.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Technical training in a water treatment plant system or related field is desirable.

Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of pollution control plant and sewage pumping facilities.

Licenses: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license, obtain and maintain a California Class B Driver’s License, and a satisfactory driving record. CWEA Certification as a Grade I Mechanical Technologist.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Respond to work at any hour of the day or night, within designated timeframe, as required during afterhours, weekend service, and/or emergency situations; carry communication equipment in order to respond after work hours. Vision, hearing, and physical ability adequate to obtain and maintain a California Class B Driver’s License; speak clearly and understandably. Requires moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion including bending, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, lifting, twisting, digging, carrying, and/or handling material weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds. Work in confined spaces and wear protective equipment. May work in conditions that require exposure to noise, odors, chemical and biological agents, gases, and contact with sanitary wastewater; work at heights up to 20 feet; work in varying temperatures of cold and heat, and in inclement weather for extended periods of time; work in conditions that may contain dust, mold, and various chemicals.

The City of San Bruno Public Library is currently recruiting for a part-time, temporary Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor. Candidates must be able to commit from January 2026 to June 2026, for 17 hours per week and availability Monday 2-6PM, Tuesday 2-6PM, Wednesday 1-6PM and Thursday 2-6PM (with the exception of Library and San Bruno Park School District holidays). Although this is a six-month position, the program is ongoing. Under the direction of the Library Services Manager, the Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the Library's after-school Homework Center, including classroom management, homework help, supervising and training volunteers, collaborating with library staff, and maintaining
accurate records of homework center attendance. The incumbent will be responsible for
maintaining a welcoming place for students to do their homework effectively within the larger context of the library, and for planning STEAM weekly activities and training/supervising students in the use of the 3-D printer. The homework center is a free, drop-in, after-school program for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The Department of Public Works of the County of San Mateo is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant/Associate/Associate Civil Engineer. 
 
There is currently one vacancy in the Department of Public Works - Utilities and Watershed Protection Section. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies in Utilities and Watershed Protection Section.

Utilities and Watershed Protection
The Utilities and Watershed Protection Section oversees 30 Special Districts that include flood control, drainage, domestic water, sanitary sewer, and street lighting. The primary responsibilities of the position include the design and management of various capital improvement projects from the conceptual stage to construction close-out, supporting utility operations, monitoring of regulatory requirements, preparing reports and analysis, reviewing development plans, responding to public inquiries. Additional duties include assisting with the day-to-day operational tasks of administering these Districts.

Assistant Engineer is the entry or trainee level class of this series. Under immediate supervision employees perform first level professional civil engineering field and office work while acting in a trainee capacity in connection with the planning, design, construction and maintenance of a wide variety of civil engineering projects. This class is flexibly staffed with Associate Engineer and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating necessary proficiency.
 
Associate Engineer is the journey level job classification and is responsible for routine office or field projects. Employees are expected to be fully competent to independently perform a full range of duties requiring a high level of technical expertise, and some periodic supervisory responsibilities. Employees may also serve as a resident engineer on smaller, less complex construction projects.
 
Associate Civil Engineer is the registered journey level classification in the engineering series. At this level, a high degree of technical expertise and some periodic lead responsibilities are required. Under general supervision, incumbents may perform a variety of professional engineering tasks in such areas as planning, design, traffic engineering & operations and construction inspection of roads, park trails, bridges, drainage, sanitary sewer systems, water supply, and other public works projects. Associate Civil Engineers may provide lead direction to other staff in completing projects of greater difficulty and complexity. Incumbents will be required to perform field work in support of the planning, design, and/or construction inspection of public works projects.
 
NOTE: Assistant/Associate Civil Engineer differs from the Associate Engineer classification in that Associate Civil Engineers are registered as professional engineers in the State of California and may provide lead direction to other staff in completing projects of greater difficulty and complexity.

The salary range for Assistant Engineer is $100,318.40- $125,340.80 annually.
The salary range for Associate Engineer is $118,664.00- $148,324.80 annually.
The salary range for Associate Civil Engineer is $132,828.80- $166,025.60 annually.

The ideal candidate for this position will be:

• Technically knowledgeable and experienced in the principles and practices of civil engineering, public works design, construction, and/or maintenance. 
• An effective communicator, both orally and in writing; able to represent the County in meetings and presentations to various groups including property owners, community groups, regulatory and other governmental agencies, and the public.
• Customer-focused and interpersonally effective in dealing with staff, engineers, contractors, and the public, and in coordinating with law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and other agencies when necessary.

• For Assistant Engineer, possession of Engineer in Training Certificate is preferred.

Qualifications

 Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
 

• Assistant Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering OR twenty-four semester units in civil engineering courses and three years of civil engineering experience in office, field or survey party work OR possession of an Engineer in Training Certificate. 
• Associate Engineer: Two years of professional civil engineering experience which has included field and office work in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of a variety of civil engineering projects.
• Associate Civil Engineer: In addition to possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California at the time of hire, two years of professional civil engineering experience which has included field and office work in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of a variety of civil engineering projects.

Duties of the Locksmith include but are not limited to: servicing, repairing, and maintaining locks, door closers, and related hardware; maintaining stock for replacement of lock units and parts; maintaining repair and maintenance records, key issues, and duplicate key schedules; picking jammed locks using special tools; devising and adjusting master key systems; and planning lock security systems for County facilities.

 

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience as a locksmith in a commercial, governmental, or industrial setting, with preferred experience in jail locks and electronic lock systems. Familiarity with ADA compliance related to door operators and sliding door mechanics is also preferred. We are seeking individuals from the local Bay Area who have an interest in working for local government and bring relevant government experience to the role. 

 

IMPORTANT: Candidates will be required to complete an extensive security clearance package and undergo a thorough background check conducted by the County of San Mateo Sheriff's Office prior to hire. The selected candidate MUST BE cleared to work around detainees in a locked facility.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/Clearance: 

• Must possess and maintain a valid class C California driver license or equivalent. 
• Must pass and maintain the Sheriff’s Jail background clearance during employment. Failure to do so will result in dismissal. 

• A typical way to qualify is journey level status as a locksmith and demonstrated proficiency in the repair of locks and the maintenance of master key systems.

Position Duties

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Parks Manager vacancy in the Parks Division at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo.

The total salary range for the Parks Manager classification is $143,860.08 - $175,309.68 annually.

The Position

The Project Manager I/II plans, coordinates, and directs the implementation of capital improvement, maintenance and related projects. This includes, in consultation with assigned technical support staff, the creation of objectives, priorities, budgets, and schedules and the retention of appropriate consultant assistance to achieve high quality capital, maintenance or information technology projects in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. Acts as Project Manager for building construction, renovation, or information technology projects.  When assigned to the Clean Water Program,: plans, organizes, and reviews the design and construction of the Public Works Wastewater Treatment Plant, sewage conveyance systems and related projects; and acts as project manager in assigned capital improvement, maintenance or renovation projects. Project Manager I is the entry level in the project management series.  Incumbents are responsible for one or more small projects in terms of dollar amount and/or technical complexity, or aspects of larger projects while learning the full scope of project management tasks.  The scope and/or diversity of project objectives and the project budget are less than assigned to the Project Manager II or Senior Project Manager level. Project Manager II is the journey level in the project management series.  Incumbents are fully responsible for average size projects and are expected to be knowledgeable about the normal scope of project management tasks. This class is distinguished from the Senior Project Manager in that the latter is responsible for the largest and most complex capital projects and is expected to be familiar with the most complex project management tasks.

Depending on the assignment, some duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Develop, plan and coordinate the planning, feasibility, architectural and engineering activities related to capital improvement, renovation projects, or information technology projects.
• Prepare and administer agreements for professional services related to capital or information technology projects, coordinating and directing all activities between the City and outside consulting firms.
• Prepare cost estimates, project schedules, and feasibility reports for new or modified structures, or new or modified software applications systems.
• Maintain accurate and current project budgets and manage cost and quality controls.  Develop, implement and monitor budgets for assigned areas.
• Utilize critical path or other methods to plan and evaluate progress on project tasks.
• Solicit and review bids and recommend contract awards. Monitor contractor performance, review and process submittals and change orders, retain construction management and inspection assistance as needed, and carry out related activities associated with project construction or system implementation/upgrade.
• Oversee the design and construction/implementation of projects, and function as project manager.
• Prepare and review project drawings; conduct pre-construction meetings and on-site inspections.
• Maintain needed records on assigned projects. Prepare and present comprehensive administrative, fiscal, statistical and technical studies, reports, evaluations, specifications and correspondence as required.
• Design and maintain spreadsheets and databases as needed on mainframe and personal computers.
• Coordinate programming, design, review, and construction/implementation activities with affected City departments and outside agencies. Assist in preparing needed agreements with other entities.
• Ensure that projects meet all applicable codes and standards.
• Prepare staff reports and presentations for the City Council, City commissions, boards, and committees, and for neighborhood meetings on capital improvement projects.
• Coordinate and schedule staff training and manage associate training documents and records.
• Utilize and manage the computerized maintenance management system for efficient and effective workflow processes.
• Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintain an awareness of new processes, methods, trends, and advances in the profession; read professional literature; maintain professional affiliations; attend workshops and training sessions as appropriate.

The Project Manager I/II receives general direction from a Department Head, Division Manager, Capital Projects Manager, Senior Project Manager, or Sr. Systems Analyst and may exercise technical or functional supervision over less experienced project managers, technical staff or administrative staff.
