Position Duties

Salary range(s) for this classification is$93,933.84- $114,114.00.This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 

As part of the Engineering Services Division, Survey Section of the Public Works Department is responsible for delivering land surveying services on a variety of City projects including street widening/improvements, storm and sanitary facilities, library/community center/fire station sites, and airfield projects. These land surveying services include, but are not limited to the following: topography, property acquisition, construction staking, pavement marking layout, and monument preservation.

The Survey Section is currently recruiting to fill one (1) Instrument Person vacancy. An Instrument Person performs a variety of sub-professional surveying and engineering functions of moderate difficulty either on a survey crew in the field or in the Survey Section office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

• Acts as instrument person on a survey party.
• Records field notes and prepares maps and sketches from survey data.
• Sets up, adjusts, and operates all types of survey instruments.
• Provides lead direction and training to other survey personnel.
• Uses modern, survey-grade Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment.
• Calculates grades and enters data into field books.
• Turns angles and extends horizontal line using a total station.
• Uses the level to obtain vertical control.
• Uses the level, total station, rod, targets to perform topographic surveying in order to describe the existing features of a piece of land in order that it may be reproduced as a plan map.
• Locates survey points by measurement, magnetometer and from maps of former surveys.
• Assist with transferring electronic field data to a PC workstation, processing and interpreting the data, and checking for errors.
• Assists with producing high-quality, computer-generated topography maps and tables using sophisticated engineering software.

This is the journey level class in a four class surveying series. This class differs from the next higher class of Survey Party Chief in that incumbents of the latter perform sub-professional surveying work and are usually responsible for completing only a segment of a surveying program or project.

Position and Duties

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services is recruiting for Part-Time, Unbenefited Lifeguard and Instructor Lifeguard positions in the Recreation Services Division (RS) for the Citywide Aquatics programming.

The Lifeguard classification is covered by the Minimum Wage Police and pay starts at $18.45 hourly.
The Instructor Lifeguard classification is covered by the Pay Floor Rate and pay starts at $30.48 hourly.

These positions may be required to work variable shifts between the hours of 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Monday – Saturday during the dates of June 15-August 8. Additionally, a MANDATORY training for both Lifeguard and Instructor Lifeguard positions will take place starting the week of June 8, from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. These positions are part-time, unbenefited with a limit of less than 20 hours per week or less than 1,040 hours per year. There is no guarantee of hours or longevity. All programs adhere to Santa Clara County, Public Health guidelines to ensure the health and well-being of staff. Face coverings and Personal Protective Equipment are provided. Staff may assist with daily health screenings, cleaning, and sanitization in City programs following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. 

Note: Candidates are not required to possess the Lifeguard Training certificate at the time of completing the application or to interview for the position. If selected for the position of Lifeguard, the Citywide Aquatics program will offer Lifeguard Training certification classes, if needed. If selected for the position of Instructor Lifeguard, the Citywide Aquatics program will be offering Lifeguard Training and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor's (WSI) certification classes, if needed. The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification and the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification age requirement are at least 15 years old.

If selected to move forward in the conditional offer process, the Lifeguard certification pre course swimming skills test that consists of the following:
•a 300-yard swim using front crawl or breaststroke.
•a 2-minute tread using legs only
•the ability to retrieve a 10-lb dive weight from 7 ft deep, to the surface and swim 20 yds with the weight, using legs only and exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds. 

Lifeguard:
Lifeguards supervise the conduct of swimmers to maintain safety in the swimming pool. Lifeguards also enforce swimming pool rules and may participate in swim instruction programs; observe swimmers in swimming pools; provide warnings to those who violate the safety rules of the pool and expelling them, if necessary, because of willful disobedience of the rules; rescues swimmers who are in distress; and administers artificial respiration when necessary, according to the prescribed method. Lifeguards may also train and direct the work of lower-level workers as assigned and participate in pool maintenance. Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training’s Authorization Certificate is REQUIRED for the position of Lifeguard. 

Instructor Lifeguard:
In addition to the duties identified for Lifeguards, Instructor Lifeguards also organize and conduct swimming instruction classes for beginners, intermediate, or advanced swimmers at a swimming pool. Duties will include teaching swimming to children, adult individuals, and groups. Instructor Lifeguards may officiate at competitive swim meets. Instructor Lifeguards must also be able to instruct in the techniques of swimming and lifesaving. Possession of a current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor’s Authorization Certificate (WSI) is REQUIRED for the position of Instructor Lifeguard.

The City of Berkeley is seeking a General Services Manager to join the Finance Department! In this role, you will act as the division head and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the programs and activities of the General Services Division. You'll supervise staff, oversee procurement and mail services, and ensure compliance with City policies.

Responsibilities include oversight of a centralized Purchasing function. Working with departments, the Division identifies equipment, goods, and services that will meet the City’s needs and creates cost effective purchasing and maintenance agreements. The Division also issues and awards all non-construction bids and Request for Proposals, and opens all construction bids to obtain the best competitive pricing. The General Services Manager also works to enforce compliance of all City procurement and contracting policies, maintain the Purchasing information on the City’s website, and assure that customers and vendors have online access to needed information and forms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

EDUCATION
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with major course work in accounting, business administration, information technology or public administration or a related field.

EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience with management and supervisory responsibility for purchasing, accounts payable or other municipal services functions similar to those identified herein, of which two (2) years of experience must have been in managing a centralized purchasing operation. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year-for-year basis.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Principal Development Services Inspector classification is a single position classification allocated to the Development Services Division of the Department of Planning and Development.

The Principle Development Services Inspector is distinguished from the Senior Building Inspector and Supervising Construction Inspector in that the Principal Development Services Inspector is assigned continuing full supervisory responsibilities over the Senior Building Inspector and Supervising Construction Inspector, professional, technical and support staff; coordinates the activities of inspection operations across the Building, Land Development Engineering and Fire Marshal sections of the Development Services Division; whereas the Senior Building Inspector is responsible to supervise a phase of the inspection program and to perform the more difficult or more specialized inspections. Family Camp in Yosemite is located in the Sierras, about 10 miles west of Yosemite National Park. Family Camp is a summer recreational facility run by the City of San Jose. The camp serves 250-300 campers per day. The program is geared for families by providing lodging, meal service, recreation activities and retail operations.

NOTE: This position requires the Part-Time Unbenefited Cook to report onsite to the Family Camp Yosemite facility in Groveland, California. On-site living facilities are available during the peak season May-October. Schedule will be determined based on operational needs. 

Position and Duties

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) Part-Time Unbenefited Cook vacancy at Family Camp in Yosemite.

Family Camp at Yosemite is a 51-acre all-inclusive Camp located in Groveland, California near Yosemite National Park where campers are served three meals a day plus snacks and beverages. The Part-Time Cook will be responsible for managing food service operations which include overseeing seasonal staff for kitchen support, menu planning, inventory budgeting, ordering, and control, coordinating with vendors, kitchen maintenance and cleaning, as well as meal preparation for guests and staff (up to 300 people per day).

The Salary range for this classification is $25.96 – $31.52 hourly.
This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

The Part-Time Unbenefited Cook will work seasonal from April through October with varying hours week to week based on the needs of Camp. Regular season operates May through August this position will work 40 hours a week during this time. The shoulder season (April- May & August to October) schedule will be based on operation needs and private group rentals. The ideal candidate will have experience cooking for a large number of guests, accommodating dietary restrictions and managing a commercial kitchen. 

General duties include training part-time food service employees, assigning work and providing direction; developing and maintaining relationships with work experience program volunteers; developing seasonal food and beverage menus; overseeing food preparation quality and safety; and developing and maintaining an attractive and consistent presentation. Additional duties may be assigned in accordance with facility management needs. Please be advised that this position will have a schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. Additionally, the position requires long periods of standing, walking, use of a hand-held radio and some lifting. 

• Ensure guests are provided with quality food and beverage items presented in a professional manner that achieves positive reviews and growing sales. 
Interact with park guests to identify, develop, and implement menu items that 
appeal to San José's diverse visitors. 
• Assist in planning, coordination, and conduct catering for special events, private rentals, birthday parties and evaluate food service program trends.
• Ensure staff and facilities are compliant with County Health Department standards and that all food safety certifications are maintained.

The Energy Department is seeking to fill one (1) full-time Senior Regulatory Compliance & Policy Manager (Senior Power Resources Specialist) position for the Regulatory Compliance & Policy Division. This position reports directly to the Deputy Director of the Regulatory Compliance & Policy Division and will provide technical analysis, assess the potential business impacts to SJCE from proposed regulatory changes, and provide expert public representation.

Under general direction of the Deputy Director, the Senior Regulatory Compliance & Policy Manager will be responsible for engaging in the increasing number of complex electric regulatory proceedings and effectively advocating for the business interests of SJCE at the  California Public Utilities Commission (“CPUC”), the California Energy Commission (CEC), and California Independent System Operator (“CAISO”) to protect and advance San José business and community interests. ABOUT THE POSITIONS
The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time level I or II (depending on qualifications and experience) Civil Engineer to provide technical assistance within the Public Works Department.  The position is currently focused on the Land Development program but is anticipated to also assist the Capital Projects team.  In Public Works, as an Engineer I/II, you will play a significant role in reviewing, coordinating, and delivering infrastructure improvements associated with private and public development projects.
