The City of Newark is currently accepting applications for Police Officer Trainees - Entry Level and Academy Attendees. 

THE POSITION:

The Police Officer Trainee position is an entry level position, requiring no prior law enforcement experience. Applicants are required to possess a valid California Driver’s License, be legally authorized to work in the U.S and be at least 21 years old at time of swear-in. All applicants must possess a strong moral character, as well as good work ethic and maturity. All candidates will be required to undergo comprehensive testing processes to determine their physical and mental suitability for a career in Law Enforcement.

The Police Officer Trainee is a temporary employee.  The trainee attends a P.O.S.T. certified academy.  Upon successful completion of the academy, the trainee will be eligible for appointment to the position of Police Officer.  New Police Officers will receive benefits available to regular employees and will serve an 18-month probationary period.

The Newark Police Department is a modern, progressive law enforcement agency with 59 sworn and 27 professional staff employees. Well qualified officers enjoy specialty assignments and promotions based upon training and experience. State of the art safety equipment, including, individually issued patrol rifles with sighting systems, Ballistic Helmets, Smart Phones and an Armored Rescue Vehicle.

THE POSITION

The City of Livermore is currently accepting applications for Librarian I/II with
the Livermore Public Library in Teen Services. This position may be filled at
either level I or II, based on the level of experience of the candidate.
The Librarian I is the entry level position in the professional Librarian series.
Entry into this class requires experience or education related to library or
information science. With experience, the work becomes progressively more
diversified and difficult, requiring independent judgment under general
supervision.

The Librarian II is a journey level professional librarian position which performs
professional level work and specialized librarian duties. Incumbents may be
responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing specialized programs,
such as youth services, electronic services, or collection development.
Adequate performance at this level requires knowledge of library and
department policies, procedures, and activities and the solution of problems
using tact and good judgment. This classification is distinguished from Librarian
I which is the entry level classification in the Librarian series.

The duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Provide library services to teens and their families with enthusiasm and motivation.
• Visit middle schools and high schools to promote library resources.
• Select and maintain teen materials and graphic novel collections.
• Plan, develop, and facilitate teen programs to increase library attendance and teen circulation.
• Recruit, manage, coordinate, and lead Young Adult Volunteers (YAVs) to assist in library events and programs.

Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Farsi, or American Sign Language is
desirable but not required.

Under the general direction of the Deputy Executive Director of Projects, the Director of Programming and Project Controls will plan, organize, manage, and provide administrative direction and oversight for all activities of the Programming and Project Controls Department; coordinate assigned projects, programs, and activities with other Alameda CTC staff, local agencies, regional transportation agencies, and state, and federal agencies; provides complex staff assistance to the Deputy Executive Director of Projects in areas of expertise; and perform related work as required.

The Recreation Specialist is a unique position that is primarily responsible for specific projects or long term projects requiring relevant knowledge and expertise.

Public Safety Dispatcher I is the entry level class in the Public Safety Dispatch series.  Performs a variety of duties involved in receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and relaying calls for emergency and non-emergency public safety assistance; dispatches appropriate units and coordinates response of emergency personnel; operates a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer aided dispatch systems; and performs a wide variety of specialized clerical duties involved in the preparation, maintenance, and release of materials related to law enforcement activities.

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Dispatcher I

Education/Training:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by successful completion of the basic dispatcher course within specified time period.

Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible clerical experience that includes customer service in an environment with frequent interruptions.

 

Dispatcher II Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by successful completion of the basic dispatcher course. Experience: Two years of experience comparable to that of a Dispatcher I with the City of Ceres.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORKING ENVIRONMENT

SELECTION PROCESS

Application Evaluation:  The qualifications of each applicant, as set forth in the application, will be continuously reviewed by the Police Department and Human Resources. Applicants who pass the initial Application Evaluation Test will advance to the next testing phase, the Interview.   Note: Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee advancement in the selection process.  

Those candidates who successfully pass the Interview phase of testing will be certified to a Hiring Eligibility List and the top three (3) scorers will be referred to the Police Department for a selection interview with the Chief of Police.  A select number of candidates will be authorized by the Chief to advance to the Background Investigation, including Fingerprinting. 

Conditional Offer of Employment:  Candidates who pass the Background Investigation will receive a Conditional Employment Offer and will advance to the pre-employment medical examinations, which will include medical psychiatric and physical examinations, including drug testing.

The City of Berkeley is seeking a General Services Manager to join the Finance Department! In this role, you will act as the division head and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the programs and activities of the General Services Division. You'll supervise staff, oversee procurement and mail services, and ensure compliance with City policies.

Responsibilities include oversight of a centralized Purchasing function. Working with departments, the Division identifies equipment, goods, and services that will meet the City’s needs and creates cost effective purchasing and maintenance agreements. The Division also issues and awards all non-construction bids and Request for Proposals, and opens all construction bids to obtain the best competitive pricing. The General Services Manager also works to enforce compliance of all City procurement and contracting policies, maintain the Purchasing information on the City’s website, and assure that customers and vendors have online access to needed information and forms.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

EDUCATION
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with major course work in accounting, business administration, information technology or public administration or a related field.

EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience with management and supervisory responsibility for purchasing, accounts payable or other municipal services functions similar to those identified herein, of which two (2) years of experience must have been in managing a centralized purchasing operation. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year-for-year basis.
