ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic people to work within our After School Sports and Mobile Recreation programs operated out of Red Morton Community Center. The hours of this position could be Monday through Friday, from 3:30pm-8:30pm during the school year, but nighttime and weekend hours will be mandatory depending on special events and program needs. During the spring and summer, duties will include, but are not limited to, serving as an assistant coach within our Junior Dribblers basketball program and assisting with mobile recreation activities at various parks and school sites. This position will work under the gym/field supervisor and report directly to the After School Sports Coordinator.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: work as a field attendant in our flag football leagues; work as a scorekeeper in our volleyball and basketball leagues; possess a firm understanding of league rules and policies; ensure that games and practices operated in a safe, inclusive environment; report any issues immediately to gym/ field supervisor and/or After School Sports Coordinator; address all parent and coaches in a professional manner; maintain and care for all sports and mobile rec equipment; follow departmental and city-wide rules and regulations as they relate to the supervision of sports program and general work procedures; assist with other programs within the Parks & Recreation Department, including but not limited to, facilities, special events, and other youth programs.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Woodland Community Services Department is seeking applications for part-time Lifeguard / Instructor's Aide positions. Under general supervision, Lifeguards will provide a safe environment for all aquatic programs, help prevent loss of life or injury to patrons, and perform related maintenance duties as needed. Some evening and weekend hours are required, and mandatory pre-season in-service training sessions will take place in June.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Enforces pool rules and regulations; rescues individuals in distress and provides First Aid/CPR as needed; maintains pool records and reports, including program registrations and safety reports; adheres to City policies and procedures; and performs other assigned duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Age Requirement:      

• At least 15 years of age.

Experience:    

• No prior experience is required.
• Recommended experience includes exposure to swimming lesson instruction, working with youth in an organized environment, participation in the Junior Lifeguard program, or experience as an Instructor's Aide or Lifeguard.

Knowledge of:           

• Familiarity with lifeguard rescue and life-saving techniques.
• The American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program and basic pool policies and procedures, or equivalent.

Ability to:       

• Demonstrate all lifeguard training skills effectively. 
• Swim proficiently and showcase various swimming techniques. 
• Communicate clearly in both oral and written forms. 
• Collaborate well with colleagues and others encountered during work.

Certifications:

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training with CPR and First Aid (or equivalent)
• Ability to obtain training in First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22 equivalent)

SALARY SCHEDULE

$18.00 - $19.00 per hour, based on experience and years of service.

The City of Menlo Park is hiring Recreation Specialists to support City-operated Summer Camp programs serving children ages 4.5 through 13 years old for programs running June 15th through August 14th, 2026.

Under general supervision, Recreation Specialists provide direct supervision of participants and assist with age-appropriate recreational, enrichment, and physical activities in compliance with California Community Care Licensing (Title 22) requirements and City policies. This position requires active engagement with children, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to maintain required staff-to-child ratios.

This is an hourly, at-will, part-time (non-benefited) position offering paid training and valuable experience in youth development and public service.
 
Schedule

• Part to Full-day summer camp shifts
• Up to 8.5 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid meal period
• Potential opportunity for continued part-time employment during the school year in our after school programs or other recreation programs.

Program hours are M, T, Th, F PM 2:20pm – 5:30pm and Wed. 1:15pm – 5:30pm Approximately 15 – 20 hours a week.

After School Program Technician I's work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist II. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19-29 hours per week.

The Position: Under general supervision, this position involves organizing, leading, and coordinating a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational and educational activities for an Afterschool Program. This role is classified as Temporary Part-Time to support both seasonal and year-round recreational programs.

Representative Duties:
• Assisting with planning, delivering, and leading program activities as needed.
• Interacting and leading participants in arts, crafts, games, and sports.
• Supporting the planning and implementation of specialized activities, instructor plans, programs, and events.
