The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Senior Librarian with the Berkeley Public Library! In this role, you will have the opportunity to have a leadership role within the Teen Services division under the supervision of the Supervising Librarian, coordinate system-wide teen (ages 13 to 18) outreach programming, purchase items for the Teen collections, and assist in budget development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division of San Mateo County Health is seeking experienced individuals for the position of Residential Counselor I. Residential Counselors (RC) I will provide guidance, support, supervision, and direction to youth ages 12–18 who have experienced severe or repeated trauma and require intensive mental health services in a Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) at the County’s Canyon Oaks Youth Center. The RC-I plays a key role in creating and maintaining a safe, stable, and therapeutic environment that supports healing and growth. This includes monitoring residents’ behavior, safety, health, and overall well-being, while fostering connection and responding to challenging behaviors with empathy.

RCs use trauma-informed practices to understand and respond to the underlying needs driving youth behavior, while recognizing the impact of trauma on development, relationships, and coping skills. They assist youth in setting and working towards realistic goals, encourage personal accountability, and model healthy communication, problem-solving, and emotional regulation. Through active participation, coaching, and encouragement, RCs guide residents in practicing life skills, strengthening self-regulation, and building confidence for their next steps.

Residential Counselors are responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The ideal candidate will have the flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including daytime, swing, and overnight within a 40-hour work week (8 hours per day, 5 days per week) and scheduled any day from Sunday through Saturday.

This program only uses physical interventions as a last resort to prevent serious injury or in situations requiring life-saving measures. Residential Counselors must pass emergency intervention training which includes a written and physical hands-on competency examination; annual examinations are conducted to maintain certification.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Education, Counseling, Child Development or related fields.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles, including awareness of the impact of trauma on behavior and development
• Training and experience in managing assaultive behavior and physical restraint.
• A minimum of one year's experience providing direct supervision of youth in a residential treatment setting working with adolescents.
• A California Driver's License in good standing.

IMPORTANT: (COYC) is a Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program and by law, requires employees to obtain and maintain security clearance and be bondable. Any prior criminal conviction since your 18th birthday (excluding marijuana-related offenses that are older than two years as listed in the California Labor Code 432.8) will result in a denial of your security clearance by the Community Care Licensing agency. While in some circumstances an employer may obtain a waiver of conviction from the licensing agency, Behavioral Health has a policy against obtaining such waivers/exemptions for perspective employees. Community Care Licensing also requires providers working in this facility to maintain 40 hours of annual training related to the field, which are provided by the facility. POSITION

The Recreation Coordinator will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and supervising youth-oriented programs. Specific duties include: Planning and implementing recreational, educational, and enrichment activities tailored to different age groups. Recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising program staff, volunteers, and instructors. Minimum Education and Experience:

Experience: Two (2) years of increasing responsible experience in the delivery of recreation services. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

Licenses or Certificates: Required upon hire: Valid California Driver’s license

The County of Yuba is recruiting for both Extra-Help and Full-Time Juvenile Corrections Officers I/II, in an effort to fill current vacancies and expand staffing levels. These positions are located on the Tri-County Youth Rehabilitation Campus which falls under the Juvenile Institutions Division of the Yuba County Probation Department.  The primary responsibilities of this flexibly staffed position are to: provide care, custody, supervision, and control of youth housed in the secured detention facilities while they are pending legal action or serving a post adjudication commitment; ensure and sustain a safe and secure environment for youth; and coordinate counseling and behavior modification activities associated with the operation of the facilities.

Our Department believes people can change and we can be instrumental in supporting that change.  We are  a small workplace family that supports one another to accomplish our mission and allow our team members to live full lives outside the workplace. Our Campus provides youth detention services to the communities of Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties as well as several contract counties through our Camp Singer program.  We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and includes the Tri-County Juvenile Hall, Secure Housing Unit, and Maxine Singer Youth Guidance Center (Camp Singer), under a Joint Powers Agreement between the three counties. Our Department is the administrative agency responsible for the management and daily operation of the facility. The shared goal of facility staff is to provide youth with support and tools that will assist them with successfully reintegrating back into the community.  Staff are provided with state mandated relevant training, which includes youth trauma; crisis management; cultural competence; mental health awareness; sexual abuse and harassment; and proper use of force.

Additionally, applicants must meet the following education requirements to qualify:

Group Supervisor I ($34.61/hr-$43.24/hr) - Completion of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university. An emphasis in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

Group Supervisor II ($39.04/hr-$48.83/hr) - Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. A degree in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

Selected candidates must be available to work flexible shifts, including graveyards, day shift, swing shift, weekends and holidays at any of the Probation Department locations. Selected candidates must also successfully pass a background investigation, including fingerprints, medical examination, psychological evaluation, a truth verification test and be free from any physical, emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a Peace Officer. Felony and misdemeanors convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Group Supervisors hired into permanent positions must pass PC 832 peace officer training and complete a 160 hour STC training course within one year of appointment.

There are currently various vacancies in the Probation Department. Depending on qualifications, the vacancy may be filled at the Group Supervisor I or Group Supervisor II level.

Examples Of Duties

Group Supervisors are responsible for:

• Supervising daily activities of youth in confinement.
• Observing and supervising unstable youth.
• Enforcing security and safety measures including searches of youth and their living quarters for contraband.
• May perform housekeeping tasks.
• Providing orientation for newly detained youth.
• Explaining and enforcing rules and regulations.
• Providing transportation for youth from the County's detention facilities to other facilities and medical offices.
• Supervising daily activities such as meals, showers, housekeeping, laundry, yard work, recreation, vocational work crews, and visitation.
• Providing individual and group counseling.
• Leading group discussions and facilitating rehabilitation programs.
• Maintaining daily records of observations, incidents and events.
• Logging information, writing reports and summaries of behavior and maintaining records and files.
• Physically restraining assaultive youth and de-escalating violent behavior.
• Maintaining a safe environment for the youth and staff.
• Being a positive role model and authority figure.
• Participate in staff conferences.

Qualifications

Group Supervisor I: Completion of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university. An emphasis in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

Group Supervisor II: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. A degree in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a class C California driver license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age on or before date of appointment.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States by federal law.
• Must not have been convicted of a felony.
• Must successfully pass a background investigation prior to employment.
