This position is fully funded through the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MPWA) and will directly support the mission of wildfire preparedness and mitigation, and community safety. 

This is a Limited Term|Temporary|Full-Time|Fixed Term|Non-Exempt position with limited benefits.  This position is for ONE YEAR ONLY for the period July 2026 through June 2027.

THE DEPARTMENT

The San Rafael Fire Department is an all-risk fire agency with 69 highly trained operational firefighters providing services in firefighting, Advanced Life Support (ALS response, ambulance transport, technical rescue, hazardous material response, disaster response, fire prevention, and community preparedness.  We are dedicated to delivering the highest level of emergency service to our community--professional, compassionate, predictable, consistent, and sustainable.  

 

THE POSITION

The Wildfire Program Support Specialist provides operational, administrative, and technical support for the San Rafael Fire Department's wildfire prevention, mitigation, and community risk-reduction programs.  The Specialist will support the Wildfire Mitigation Program through the implementation of the San Rafael Wildfire Prevention and Protection Plan and Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA) goals.  The position works closely with fire prevention staff, vegetation management personnel, contractors, community organizations, and residents to ensure efficient program delivery and high-quality customer service.  This role supports planning, data tracking, public education, defensible space evaluations, grant administration, and logistics for wildfire-related initiatives.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Support the implementation of the San Rafael Wildfire Prevention and Protection Action Plan and Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority workplan in an inclusive and equitable manner.
• Provide various administrative support services including but not limited to inputting invoices, contracts, and purchase orders, budget tracking, meeting support and responding to resident inquiries.
• Assist in coordinating contractors, scheduling inspections, and maintaining project timelines and documentation.  
• Conduct field support tasks such as collecting site information, documenting parcel conditions, preparing inspection forms, and entering data into department databases.  
• Maintain, organize, and update program data, reports, maps, and digital records.
• Assist with grant tracking, reporting, reimbursements, and documentation requirements.
• Support development and delivery of public education materials, community outreach events, and preparedness workshops.
• Provide logistical support for equipment, supplies, signage, and daily field operations.
• Prepare written summaries, report, presentations, and correspondence for supervisors and stakeholders.
• Support the residential assistance programs via documentation, scheduling, and coordination.
• Manage the resident hotline, including phone calls, emails and third-party software to ensure residents have timely information and support.
• Helps assure residents are informed through content creation to be shared via physical and electronic forms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• A background in customer service or public service.
• Ability to speak, write, and read Spanish is desired but not necessary.

 

The County of San Mateo’s Department of Public Works is seeking applications for the position of Equipment Mechanic III.

The Equipment Mechanic III, under general supervision, service and repair water district pumps and emergency generators, perform mechanical maintenance and repair work on road construction equipment in the shop as well as out in the field and perform routine maintenance and repair tasks as appropriate.

The Vehicle and Equipment Services Section maintains, inspects, services, and repairs County motor vehicles including school and other buses, trucks, equipment, Sheriff's Office vehicles, and motor pool vehicles. Our service and repair stations are located in Redwood City and San Mateo.

 

Examples Of Duties

 

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Inspect and maintain water district pumps and all emergency generators.
• Perform and run tests on all assigned pumps and generators as required.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all pumps and generators, including tune-ups, oil changes.
• Overhaul pumps, adjust packing, and adjust thrust washers.
• Maintain a record of each unit, which may include but not limited to, preventative maintenance, and inspection dates and times.
• Maintain and troubleshoot diesel process equipment such as pumps, valves, mechanical seals and tanks.
• Perform and coordinate preventative maintenance per required schedule and procedures.
• Certify pumps and generators to meet California Air Board Quality standards.
• Overhaul small to large gasoline and diesel engines.
• Replace bearings, adjust and repair electrical and fuel systems.
• Replace wheel cylinders, reline and adjust brakes.
• Inspect and replace shock absorbers, tie rods, ball joints, king pins, idler arms, and steering arms.
• Inspect, repair and replace master cylinders, wheel cylinders, pads, linings, calipers, drums, shoes and brake drum rotors.
• Clean and pack wheel bearings, and U-joints.
• Install, inspect, repair and replace electrical and ignition systems, including generators, alternators, voltage regulators, batteries and emergency equipment.
• Install, inspect, repair and replace fuel systems including pumps, filters, and carburetors.
• Perform routine tune-ups of vehicles, which includes replacing air cleaner, spark plugs, points, condenser; inspect, repair or replace wires, belts, distributors; clean and adjust the carburetor and set the timing.
• Adjust and repair grader blade and loader bucket assemblies.
• Remove and replace tracks, engines, motors, bearings and other component parts.
• Inspect, operate and repair all hydraulic equipment.
• Fabricate parts, brackets, tools and other equipment.
• Cut and weld using oxy-acetylene and electric arc equipment.
• Make repairs of equipment in field when necessary.
• Drive transport vehicles to move equipment.
• Lube chassis, door and hood hinges, door locks and padlocks check and maintain fluid levels, change oil and oil filters.
• Inspect, clean and service air cleaners.
• Repair, mount and balance tubes and tires and rotate tires as needed.
• Inspect, test and replace batteries, cables and terminals.
• Steam clean vehicle exterior, engine compartment and other components.
• Inspect, replace and repair cooling system, radiator, pump, thermostats, belts and hoses.
• Inspect, repair and replace exhaust system muffler and exhaust pipes.
• Inspect engine, transmission and differential for leaks and cracks; refer to supervisor if found and complete a repair sheet.
• Inspect and adjust clutch for free play.
• Install seat belts and inspect for wear.
• Perform minor repairs to parts of engine and/or replace them.
• Inspect and adjust or replace door, hood, trunk latches.
• Replace minor parts such as gauges, warning light bulbs, fuses, wind-shield wiper blades, radiator and gas tank caps; replace and adjust headlights and taillights.
• Complete repair sheets noting parts and labor hours used.
• Prepare records and reports. 
• Perform smog inspections and certifications.
• Observe safety regulations, work in such a manner to avoid hazardous situations, and bring potential hazards to supervisor's attention.
• Make service calls using shop vehicle lubrication truck.
• Drive and operate forklift.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Knowledge of:

• Mechanical maintenance of water pumps and emergency generators.

• Methods, tools, materials and equipment used in servicing and repairing pumps and emergency generators.
• Switch gears and the methods for testing and diagnosing main power systems.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

 

A typical way to qualify is four years’ experience as an journey level mechanic and demonstrated proficiency in the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of heavy equipment.
 
Licensure/Certification:

• Possession and maintenance of a valid California Commercial Learner’s Permit at the time of appointment is required if a California Class A Commercial Driver’s License is not held; and must obtain and maintain a valid California Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tank vehicle and hazardous materials endorsements within six months of hire.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Burlingame Police Department is a municipal, full service, community oriented department.  We offer a variety of investigative, preventative, and community policing programs to both protect and serve a community that spans five square miles and is home to more than 28,000 residents.

The Burlingame Police Department is divided into two divisions: Operations and Administration.  The force currently consists of 40 police officers, made up of the Chief of Police, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants, 6 Sergeants, 6 Corporals, 2 Inspectors, and 22 Patrol Officers.

POSITION
Burlingame Police Officers are responsible for preventing crime, arresting law violators, directing traffic, etc.  In that capacity, officers may also serve in special assignments such as K-9, detective, SWAT, hostage teams, FTO, and motorcycle patrol.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Patrol various areas within the City by driving a police vehicle or by walking to prevent criminal activity, to enforce various laws, regulations, and codes.

Entry Level - Proof of completing the POST Written Test and Physical Agility Test with a passing score.

Lateral Police Officer - To be considered for a lateral Police Officer appointment, candidates must have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer within the past twelve (12) months, including the completion of the field training program and probation period with a law enforcement agency.

Position Description: 

The County of San Mateo is seeking a capable and multifaceted Assistant Director to assist the Director of the Family Justice Center with strategic planning, program development, and management of the County’s new Center.

Under the Leadership of the Family Justice Center Director, the County is working with community partners and stakeholders to develop a one-stop holistic service and support center for families and survivors of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and other forms of abuse. The mission of the Center is to support survivors and their families by creating a single destination to receive crucial services and support.

The San Mateo County Family Justice Center is a County-run multi-agency, multi-disciplinary service center where both public and private partner agencies assign staff on a full-time or part-time basis to provide services from one location. The Center’s focus will be on reducing the number of times survivors tell their story, reducing the number of places they must go for help, and through active collaboration with community-based organizations, increasing the quality of services and support they receive.

This is an opportunity for a committed public servant with extensive program management experience to successfully navigate the opportunities and challenges in developing and building new programs, collaborations, and a space that achieves the County’s goal of providing comprehensive, wrap-around services to victims of violence. The Assistant Director will be instrumental in carrying out the vision and goals by working alongside the Director.

Examples Of Duties

As the Assistant Director, you will have the opportunity to:

· Participate in the planning process to establish the Center which is modeled after successful Family Justice Centers across the country.

· Join in the effort to establish interagency collaborations.

· Engage with survivors to gather input and feedback that will inform the development and operation of the Family Justice Center, ensuring that their experiences and needs shape the center’s services and policies.

· Assist in facilitating focus groups and conducting best practice research as needed.

· Consult with County and external subject matter experts on relevant program issues.

· Participate in securing contracts with outside vendors, consultants, or organizations.

· Provide oversight for the program budget that ensures the accomplishment of program and service objectives within budget restrictions.

· Prepare detailed written reports, policies, procedures, and contracts.

· Assist in completion of phase one of the Family Justice Center

Requirements: 

This project requires extensive research, careful planning, and successful collaborations. As such, the selected Assistant Director will need the following competencies:

· Effective Communication – Possesses the interpersonal skills needed to build relationships with interagency partners, the County Board of Supervisors, other County departments, and community-based organizations.

· Planning and Organizing – Ability to facilitate effective courses of action to ensure that work is completed efficiently.

· Problem Analysis and Problem Solving – Uses sound and logical judgment to spot and analyze problems, develop alternative solutions, and initiate corrective action.

· Emotional Intelligence – Perceives, understands, and manages personal emotions and the emotions of others during interpersonal interactions.

· Collaboration – Works with others toward an agreement and negotiates to find mutually acceptable solutions. Effectively gains consensus between differing parties in sensitive situations.

In addition to possessing the above-listed competencies, any combination of education, training, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

· A minimum of five years of increasing responsible experience in the areas of project management, victim assistance program management, program development, or management of non-profit or community-based organizations.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter/Engineers who are licensed paramedics. Under direction of the Fire Captain, the Firefighter/Engineer will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighter/Engineers also provide Advanced Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer Paramedic job description  for more details.

Required Qualifications:

Experience and Training Guidelines:
A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Two years (2) of full-time firefighting service.
2. Possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter I certificate is required.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
4. Must have a valid Paramedic License from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and will need to obtain San Mateo County Paramedic accreditation prior to completing probationary period.

Required Certification and License:

1. Provide proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certificate prior to appointment to the classification of Firefighter/Engineer.  CPAT must be valid and completed within the last 12 months.

THE DEPARTMENT

THE POSITION

The Open Space Ranger will primarily work in the open space areas of incorporated San Rafael.  The Ranger will be responsible for judiciously enforcing all laws, with particular emphasis on identifying unlawful campsites mitigating fire hazards, and coordinating with other private, city, county, and state agencies to clean up the campsites.  They will work with patrol officers, business owners, residents, and other members of the public to prevent crime, resolve problems, and solve crime.  The Ranger is responsible for keeping accurate records and must remain organized.  The Ranger will use a variety of methods to accomplish their goals, including foot patrol, bicycle patrol, 4-wheel drive truck, and the ATV.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to): 

• Patrol designated open space areas within the City using foot, bicycle, ATV, and four-wheel drive vehicle patrols.
• Enforce federal, state, and local laws and City ordinances, with particular emphasis on open space regulations.
• Identify, investigate, and address unlawful encampments in open space areas in coordination with City, County, and State partners.
• Mitigate public safety and environmental hazards, including fire risk, illegal dumping, and resource damage.
• Mitigate fire risk through ignition reduction, coordination with Marin Wildfire Prevention Officers, and vegetation abatement for fire road access.
• Removal of ignition sources (warming fires, propane tanks, etc.) in open space.
• Conduct proactive crime prevention, enforcement, and problem-solving activities in parks and open space areas.
• Respond to calls for service related to open space areas, including quality-of-life issues, suspicious activity, and criminal behavior.
• Coordinate cleanup operations with Public Works, Parks, Fire Code Enforcement, and outside agencies.
• Engage with community members, hikers, residents, business owners, and visitors to promote safety and voluntary compliance.
• Prepare clear, accurate, and timely reports, citations, and documentation related to enforcement actions and activitIes.
• Collect evidence, conduct investigations, and follow up on criminal cases occurring in open space areas.
• Provide court testimony as required.
• Assist with emergency response operations, including search and rescue and wildfire-related incidents.
• Maintain familiarity with open space geography, access routes, and environmental sensitivities.
• Perform related duties as assigned in support of Department and City objectives.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Possession of California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate or completion of a California P.O.S.T. approved basic academy.
• No college and/or previous experience required.
• U.S. Citizen and at least age 21.
• Valid driver's license.

ABOUT THE POSITION

 

The City of Redwood City Public Works Services Department invites you to apply for the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker III Equipment Operator in the Right-of-Way Division. The Right-of-Way Division is responsible for maintenance of the City’s public right-of-way including streets and roadways, parking lots, roadway markings and painting, streetlights, traffic signals and signs, and street cleaning.  

The position will report to the Public Works Field Supervisor and will serve as a skilled maintenance worker operating a variety of heavy equipment in the construction and maintenance of public right-of-way- assets, assist in scheduling and reviewing work, perform a variety of skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, repair streets and sidewalks, and occasionally lead a field crew in assigned work. Work will include the skillful operation of construction and maintenance equipment such as street sweepers, backhoes, paving machines, dump trucks, rollers, trucks, tractors, and skip loaders. The position will be involved in the construction and maintenance operation of streets, sidewalks and gutters, will spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets, read and interpret maps of service areas and sweeping districts, and provide technical guidance to less experienced workers.
