The City of Auburn is hiring for the seasonal, part-time Bus Driver I position in the Auburn Transit Department.

Auburn Transit is looking for qualified individuals to join our transit team. These positions are seasonal, part-time and each has a maximum of 999 hours of work per fiscal year. The incumbent's schedule will be flexible, based on the needs of the department, community transit needs and employee availability.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Bus Driver I is an entry-level classification responsible for routine tasks and operation of specific transit vehicles. It is essential incumbents learn all transit laws, operating procedures and policies. The role is performed under direct supervision from the Transportation Supervisor or designee and does not involve supervision over other staff.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Actual work may vary based on department needs or change due to evolving business practices.

• Operates a bus or other General Public Paratransit (GPPV) vehicles on City streets and highways in all weather conditions to transport passengers on established routes with designated stops, on-demand rideshare services, field trips and special events.
• Ensures passenger safety by observing passenger behavior, verifying safety belts are secured and rendering aid to passengers in an emergency.
• Assists passengers boarding and deboarding as needed or requested, including senior citizens, individuals with disabilities and care-dependent persons.
• Operates a smart device and two-radio to respond to transit dispatch and on-demand rideshare requests requiring adjustments to existing schedules and routes.
• Operates automatic wheelchair lifts, collects fares, issues passes, secures wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
• Promptly notifies management and completes reports regarding accidents and incidents involving vehicles and passengers.
• Conducts mandatory daily pre-trip vehicle inspections adhering to state and city regulations before each route, including reporting inspection results, daily trip logs, and required vehicle repairs and maintenance.
• Performs minor maintenance, repair and cleaning of transit vehicles and fleet storage facility.
• Adheres to all public transit federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.

The Policy Advisor for Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) leads on all matters related to the County’s social services, public health, behavioral health, and child and senior welfare programs. This individual tracks policies, advocates for equitable investments in District 1, and helps design board actions that enhance public health, general welfare, and access to medical care and social support systems. This position reports to the Director of Policy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze HHSA initiatives and county programs related to the safety net, public health, behavioral health, homeless service, housing development, child welfare, and services for seniors and people with disabilities.
• Draft policy memos, board letters, and recommendations to address systemic inequities.
• Draft talking points and speeches that communicate the elected’s policies, priorities, and vision to constituents, stakeholders, and community leaders.

The Policy Advisor for Public Safety is responsible for tracking and shaping policies related to law enforcement, emergency response services, probation, juvenile justice, and criminal justice reform. The Advisor works to ensure that public safety systems in District 1 are rehabilitative, transparent, equitable, and aligned with community needs. This position reports to the Director of Policy. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor board items and legislative actions related to the Sheriff’s Department, Probation, District Attorney, and emergency response.
• Draft board letters, amendments, talking points, and constituent updates.
• Draft talking points and speeches that communicate the elected’s policies, priorities, and vision to constituents, stakeholders, and community leaders

The City of Dixon is recruiting to fill one full-time position of Fire Battalion Chief and to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies. The Fire Battalion Chief will act as a shift commander, ensure operational readiness for emergency response and perform emergency command and control functions; to provide highly responsible staff assistance to Fire Administration; and to manage and participate in administrative tasks, programs, and projects.

The City of Lincoln's Finance Department is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative individual to join our team as a Payroll Technician or Senior Payroll Technician, depending on qualifications and experience. DEFINITION

Under general supervision, performs general and specialized payroll and accounting duties related to the preparation, issuance and maintenance of City-wide payroll and financial records and payroll system; reviews and reconciles a variety of payroll reports including payroll taxes, benefits reports, quarterly taxes, and PERS retirement contributions; to serve as liaison to departments and City personnel, researching and responding to questions related to payroll; and to prepare and submit a variety of payroll related reports; and performs related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Payroll Technician is the entry-level class within the Payroll Technician series; however, it operates at the journey level. Employees at this level are expected to perform the full range of routine to moderately complex payroll duties, requiring thorough knowledge of City payroll systems, policies, and departmental procedures. While Payroll Technicians operate independently in day-to-day payroll processing and compliance tasks, they are not typically responsible for interpreting complex regulations or acting as subject matter experts.

This classification is distinguished from the Senior Payroll Technician by the scope, complexity, and level of responsibility. Payroll Technicians work within established policies and procedures, while Senior Payroll Technicians lead the resolution of complex issues, interpret regulatory changes, and serve as technical specialists in the field.

The Senior Payroll Technician is a specialist-level classification responsible for the City’s payroll function. This class is distinguished from the Payroll Technician by the assignment, responsibility and performance as an experienced specialist in public sector payroll who can independently perform the duties and is expected to be the expert in the field. This work involves the interpretation and application of Federal, State and organizational rules, regulations and procedures requiring sustained, frequent, and intensive use of financial, statistical, and numerical data and information. The position requires a significant degree of knowledge, skill and experience in payroll functions and exercises a high degree of independent judgment and decision making.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives supervision/general supervision from the Accounting Manager and/or Finance Director. May exercise technical and functional supervision over staff acting as supporting payroll personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

Payroll Technician:

• Maintains the payroll system and employee pay records; posts and distributes time and attendance records, reviews, audits, and corrects time sheets; prepares paychecks; distributes paychecks and reports to various departments; prepares and files required reporting documents in an accurate and timely manner (including but not limited to quarterly reports and annual reporting of W-2s).
• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable wage policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; maintains current knowledge of City, state and federal legislation affecting payroll; understands and implements applicable provisions of MOUs.
• Prepares pay records for posting to the general ledger; reconciles payroll records to the general ledger; prepares payroll journal vouchers; prepares a variety of routine and special reports as necessary; reviews, reconciles, approves, and submits all vouchers for payment of payroll liabilities (may include tracking of COBRA insurance payments and receipts).
• Processes withholdings, deductions, wage garnishments or other special payroll actions, and changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments; submits PERS retirement reports each payroll; prepares payroll tax deposits; complete, verify, and process forms and documentation for administration of benefits such as pension plans, and unemployment and medical insurance; reconciles payroll deductions withheld from employees to actual cost, including union dues, deferred compensation and credit union.
• Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies relative to the maintenance of payroll accounting controls; reviews wages computed and works with human resources to correct errors to ensure accuracy of payroll; computes any corrections or retroactive pays; prepares manual checks when necessary; makes wage adjustments.
• Assists employees, benefit vendors, auditors and outside agencies with payroll questions and requests; works with management to address any legalities and payments regarding compensation concerns such as judgments, arbitrations, and/or court rulings; assists employees in the completion of payroll related forms; researches changes to wage and hour ordinances and recommends modifications to the payroll system for compliance purposes; researches and analyzes data regarding salaries and benefits for cost studies.
• May be assigned to perform a variety of accounts receivable and bookkeeping functions on a relief or support basis.
• Maintain confidentiality of payroll and personnel information contained in employee records or discussed with human resources and/or management.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations, City management and staff, and the public.
• Interfaces with the Human Resources Department to assure proper and timely processing of employee related paperwork.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Senior Payroll Technician:

• Coordinate and perform a variety of specialized and detailed duties involving the processing and review of City-wide payroll; perform manual calculations as necessary, ensuring integrity and accuracy of data.
• Processes withholdings, deductions, union dues, wage garnishments or other special payroll actions and changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, disability insurance, health insurance coverage and loan payments.
• Balance and post payroll transactions to payroll ledgers and reconcile to accounting system; balance other financial, statistical and operational reports, statements and records.
• Ensure the accuracy of the City’s payroll; conduct detailed research and make corrections to calculations and payroll related reports.
• Analyze and reconcile payroll records; prepare, reconcile and submit a variety of bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual payroll reports including but not limited to payroll taxes, GCC, ACA, W2’s, retirement, deferred compensation, payroll deductions, leave accruals and miscellaneous benefits.
• Reviews, reconciles, approves and submits all vouchers for payment of payroll liabilities including tracking of COBRA insurance payments and receipts. 
• Establish and maintain a variety of files for employee and payroll records; maintain records of payroll deductions; track and reconcile deductions.
• Determine schedules and timelines for payroll processes; post and distribute time and attendance records; review timesheets for accurate record-keeping; and preparation and submission of related reports.
• Test and implement payroll software system changes; consult with other City staff and outside vendors regarding software updates.
• Work with management to interpret and implement personnel rules, Memoranda of Understanding, federal and state regulations, CalPERS rules, and changes to reporting; explain rules and regulations regarding payroll.
• Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies relative to the maintenance of payroll accounting controls; review wages computed and work with human resources to correct errors to ensure accuracy of payroll; computes any corrections or retroactive pays; prepares manual checks when necessary; makes wage adjustments.
• Maintain confidentiality of payroll and personnel information contained in employee records or discussed with human resources and management.
• May be assigned to perform a variety of accounts receivable and bookkeeping functions on a relief or support basis.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

POSITION

To respond to fire alarms, medical emergency, and other emergency activities in the protection of life and property; and to participate in fire prevention, training and station and equipment maintenance activities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Woodland Fire Department (WFD), as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

• Respond to hazardous materials incidents and participate as member of the County Hazardous Materials Team. Shut down natural gas and electrical services to structure.
• Participate in fire inspection activities and other fire prevention, community risk reduction, and public education activities as assigned.
• Ensure that businesses are operating in compliance with the fire code.
• Participate in the programs providing various public relations services, including facility tours, public education seminars and other public events.
• Respond to inquiries from the public.
• Assist in investigating fire origin and cause.
• May be requested to respond to emergencies during non-duty hours. 
• Control traffic.
• Inventory supplies; maintain records.
• Can serve as “acting positions” when certified.
• Clean station quarters and equipment and maintain a clean and orderly condition in and about the fire station; perform minor building maintenance.

• Learn a wide variety of firefighting duties, methods, and procedures including the operation of firefighting apparatus, equipment, and tools.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.  College-level coursework in fire science, general management, or related field is desirable.
• Proof of completion of accredited Firefighter Academy

Experience:

• Possession of at least three (3) years of full-time work experience with a municipal fire agency, including current employment in good standing.  Exceptions may be considered for those in lay-off status if deemed not for cause.

License or Certificate:

Required Upon Hire:

• Proof of valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (valid for one year from issuance date).

Required Upon Hire and Continued Employment:

• Valid California Commercial Driver License (Class A or B), or Class C w/FF endorsement
• Emergency Medical Technician Certificate
• Valid CPR certification

Possession of additional experience, licenses, and certifications are considered highly desirable:

• HAZMAT FRO or higher
• Wildland- S130, S131, S190, L180
• ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
• CSFM Firefighter Safety & Survival
• CSFM Auto Extrication
• CSFM Confined Space Awareness or higher

SRFECC is preparing for a Dispatcher Academy, beginning September 2025! As a Dispatcher I, you will be a key player in the public safety network, managing both emergency and non-emergency calls. Your role involves receiving critical information, dispatching appropriate Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) resources, providing live-saving instructions, relaying facts, and ensuring effective communication throughout the incident. This is an entry-level position ideal for individuals with no prior public safety dispatching experience. Advancement to Dispatcher II is expected within two years, and offers greater responsibility and higher pay.

This position requires the ability to work well under pressure, demonstrate exceptional communication skills, and think quickly during emergency situations. Shift work is required, and you must be available for nights, weekends, and holidays.
