What you will do:

• Plan, direct, review and participate in professional and technical work of a functional group of  the Engineering & Transportation Division with principal assignments involving traffic  circulation design, traffic safety studies, geometric design of streets and interchanges, and  traffic operation studies.
• Direct, assist, and participate in traffic analysis, circulation design, and design transportation engineering projects, such as traffic signals, signs, and markings, channelizations, street lighting and parking facilities.
• Provide consulting services and advice to City departments, divisions, and other groups on matters related to transportation engineering.
• Answer inquiries, investigate complaints, and provide information to the general public.
• Meet with individuals and groups as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

You have: 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Three (3) years of engineering experience in transportation with one (1) year of the experience being after acquiring the Professional Engineering License. 

Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in transportation engineering or closely related field. 

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's license at time of appointment. Possession of a certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer, Electrical Engineer, or Traffic Engineer in the State of California.  

OTHER REQUIREMENTS 
Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment: ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, climb and lift up to 30 pounds and to work outdoors or in a confined workspace.

The Department

One position will be filled as either an Associate Landscape Architect or a lower level Landscape Architect/Designer II, depending upon qualifications and fit. SUMMER AQUATIC STAFF POSITIONS
Salary Range: $17.37 to $30.68/hour; non-benefited, DOE and position offered

The Town of Danville strives to provide an aquatic environment that is safe, instructive and fun through recreational and lap swim, special events, the Learn to Swim program, Junior Lifeguard program and Lifeguard training classes.

PROGRAM LEADER (SWIM INSTRUCTOR/LIFEGUARD)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour

QUALIFICATIONS  
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age.  Required certifications by the end of Staff Training Week:  American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid (Lifeguard).  

Aquatics staff members generally work 3-5 hours per day, in morning, afternoon, or evening shifts at San Ramon Valley High School or Monte Vista Pools.  Most staff members will work an average of 15-20 hours per week, up to a maximum of 37.5 hours per week. 

SUPERVISION 
Under the general supervision of the Pool Managers, Program Coordinator and Program Supervisor, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring aquatic safety and providing instruction for pool patrons.  Swim Instructors/Lifeguards must enjoy working with children and the general public, be patient, reliable and have lots of energy.  

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES 
Job duties include lifeguarding, swim lesson instruction, leading pool programming, mandatory staff training, pulling tarps, required daily fitness swims, and administrative duties, including some weekend shifts.  Also:

Senior Guards must have at least two years of lifeguard/swim instructor experience; leadership experience is highly desired.

Aquatics staff members generally work 3-5 hours per day, in morning, afternoon, or evening shifts at San Ramon Valley High School or Monte Vista High School Pools.  Most staff members will work an average of 15-20 hours per week, up to a maximum of 37.5 hours per week.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The City of Hayward is currently looking to fill one (1) Utility Worker-Water vacancy in the Water Division of the Public Works & Utilities Department. The Utility Worker performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks requiring a limited knowledge of water and sewer facility installation and maintenance activities. The duties assigned include physical labor and are frequently routine but are more difficult or skilled than work performed by Laborers. The operation of various types of light and moderately heavy automotive or other power-driven equipment as a regular assignment is characteristic of this class.

SELECTION PROCEDURE 

Apply - Candidates must submit a completed City of Hayward job application and responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire which fully describe the nature of their professional experience and qualifications.  Applications submitted without all required materials will not be considered.

Application Review - Based on the information provided, employment applications will be reviewed for minimum qualifications.  

Job Related Testing -Those best qualified may be invited to the next phase of the process, which may include an oral, practical, written examination and/or supplemental questionnaires reviewed by subject matter experts.

The examination process will result in a ranked eligible register of candidates for hiring consideration by the department derived from any of the exam processes mentioned above. 

Department Interviews - Actual hire depends on success in the departmental selection process. 

Candidates under final consideration for employment with the City should expect to undergo an employment background/reference check that may include, but is not limited to: employment history, confirmation of educational credentials and degrees, licenses including driver's license, registrations, certificates, and other credentials as part of the appointment process. Some positions, depending on the nature of the work, also require a credit check and a review of Summary Criminal History obtained from the State Department of Justice through Live Scan Fingerprinting.

The City of Dixon is opening a great opportunity for those curious to learn about the ins and outs of police work for the position of Police Cadet in the Police Department. Under the supervision of veteran Police Officer's the cadet experiences what it takes to develop important cadet skills. Examples: cadet patrol, traffic control, attending meetings, delivery of witness subpoenas, report taking, provide assistance to the various bureaus within the department, directing phone calls to the appropriate personnel, learns how to interact with the community during all kinds of problem-solving situations.

This is an entry-level, volunteer position intended as an educational and career development internship. In addition to serving a support role within the Police Department, this classification is exposed to a wide variety of law enforcement duties and will gain experience in the work place.

A Cadet volunteers a minimum of 8 hours per month and work is conducted both in a police station and in the field. Work involves irregular, often non-scheduled, hours during the day and evenings, and on the weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Employment Processing: Those selected for hire must successfully complete and pass the following: a personal background investigation, and a pre-employment drug screen. In accordance with Federal law, an employee must provide proof of identity and legal right to work in the United States.
