ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City is recruiting for a dynamic individual to fill the position of ACCOUNTANT In the Finance Department, which provides financial support services to an organization with annual expenditures of over $300 million.

This position will report to a Senior Accountant and will be responsible for areas within general accounting and accounts payable. The selected candidate will provide the department with highly responsible technical and professional staff support.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs difficult and varied accounting clerical work in support of either accounts receivable or accounts payable activities; compiles, reconciles and verifies general financial and statistical data; performs related work as required.  Employees in this class typically function either in Accounts Payable or in Accounts Receivable.  In either assignment, established policies, methods and procedures are followed when processing and maintaining financial data and records, although employees must exercise judgment in resolving job-related problems within these parameters.

Fire Prevention/Administration Office Assistant

• Provide excellent customer service for the Fire Prevention and Fire Administration divisions by greeting visitors, answering inquiries, and directing individuals to the appropriate staff or resources
• Manage calendars for multiple inspectors, schedule inspections, and charge appropriate fees
• Process special event permit applications, prepare invoices for permit fees, collect fees, and issue permits
• Assist with accounts payables and receivables, including invoicing, payment collection, and reconciliation for Fire Prevention activities
• Provide information and assistance regarding public education to the general public
• Assist with website updates related to Fire Prevention services
• Update and maintain a variety of Fire Prevention forms and documents

• Provide front-desk customer service by greeting visitors, answering inquiries and directing individuals to the appropriate staff or resources
• Perform a variety of general clerical duties, including filing, photocopying, processing mail, ordering supplies, scanning, and answering a multi-line telephone system
• Enter invoices for payment and data/information for reports, including setting up new vendors, reviewing statements
• Assist with accounts receivables related to shop billing and vendor transactions
• Update and maintain shop-related forms and documentation, assist with maintaining inventories of station supplies, and parts for apparatus repairs
• Receive supplies, check for condition and discrepancies, arrange for efficient and safe storage of stock, materials, and equipment
• Serve as administrative support for the Fleet & Facilities Manager and coordinate with other divisions as needed

The Policy Advisor for Public Safety is responsible for tracking and shaping policies related to law enforcement, emergency response services, probation, juvenile justice, and criminal justice reform. The Advisor works to ensure that public safety systems in District 1 are rehabilitative, transparent, equitable, and aligned with community needs. This position reports to the Director of Policy. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor board items and legislative actions related to the Sheriff’s Department, Probation, District Attorney, and emergency response.
• Draft board letters, amendments, talking points, and constituent updates.
• Draft talking points and speeches that communicate the elected’s policies, priorities, and vision to constituents, stakeholders, and community leaders
• Serve as liaison with community safety coalitions, violence prevention groups, and first responders.
• Provide support to the elected at community events coordinating scheduling, logistics, and constituent engagement.
• Conduct research and communicate policy ideas in support of the elected’s legislative agenda.
• Develop strategies that promote rehabilitation, accountability, de-escalation, diversion programs and reduce recidivism. 
• Track jail conditions, behavioral health service integration, and reentry programs.

The Department

The City Clerk’s Office administers the democratic process such as elections, access to records, and all legislative actions, ensuring transparency to the public. The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for acting as a compliance officer for federal, state, and local statues including the Political Reform Act, the Brown Act, and the Public Records Act.

The City Clerk serves as a steward of the democratic process and is a liaison between the City Council and members of the public. The City Clerk is a partner in democracy, providing information and ensuring transparency. The City Clerk is an elected representative of the people and serves a four-year term. The City Clerk has legal responsibilities described in California Government Code Sections 40800, et seq., the Elections Code, and City ordinance.

The Position

Under general direction, the Deputy City Clerk is responsible for providing support to the City Clerk and Assistant City Clerk. This includes but is not limited to records management, public records requests, attendance at Council and/or Standing Committee meetings, preparing and editing minutes, and assisting with special projects. With responsibility for legal noticing, advertising, and calendaring public hearings.

The Department

The South San Francisco Public Works Department is comprised of its three main divisions - Engineering, Maintenance & Operations, and the Water Quality Control Plant. Together, these divisions ensure that South San Francisco's infrastructure and public services are efficiently managed and maintained, contributing to the overall quality of life in the community.

Located adjacent to San Francisco Bay on Colma Creek, the Water Quality Control Plant (WQCP) provides secondary wastewater treatment for the cities of South San Francisco, San Bruno, and Colma. It also provides the dechlorination treatment of chlorinated effluent for the cities of Burlingame, Millbrae, and the San Francisco International Airport prior to discharging the treated wastewater into San Francisco Bay. The average dry weather flow through the facility is 9 million gallons per day (MGD). Peak wet weather flows can exceed 60 MGD.
