Education/Training:

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in civil engineering, business administration, horticulture, arboriculture, mechanical engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

• Four years of responsible facilities, streets, landscape or fleet maintenance experience including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
• When assigned to vehicle and equipment maintenance:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, Class A Commercial Driver's License with P (Passenger) endorsement within probationary period.
  • Possession of an Employer Testing Program Training certificate is desirable.

Building Maintenance & Facility Oversight

• Proven experience managing building systems, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, painting, locksmithing, roofing, and door repair
• Ability to conduct regular inspections of City buildings to assess physical condition and ensure high-quality work from staff and contractors
• Oversight of custodial services across all City facilities
• Skilled in operating and maintaining computerized energy management systems
• Experience implementing water, gas, electrical, and energy conservation programs

Fleet & Equipment Maintenance

• Leadership in supervising the daily operations of public works and transit garages
• Expertise in scheduling preventative maintenance and safety inspections for City vehicles
• Ability to interact with state and local agencies regarding regulatory inspections
• Experience managing spare parts inventory and procurement processes
• Skilled in writing specifications for new vehicle purchases and conducting predelivery inspections
• Knowledge of hazardous waste handling and regulatory reporting
• Ability to train personnel in commercial driving standards and DMV-approved routes

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Junior and/or Assistant Engineer will support and gradually lead a variety of projects related to infrastructure improvements, traffic system operations and upgrades, development plan review and permitting, and more. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Junior Engineer is the entry level engineer classification. The position requires a BS degree in Civil Engineering and does not require any formal work experience or engineering certification.
   
• Assistant Engineer is the initial classification in the engineering job class series requiring EIT and two years of Junior Engineer level experience (a master’s degree shall count for 1 year of post degree engineering experience).

 

LICENSES

• Assistant Engineer requires an Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
• Both levels: A valid drivers’ license.

The Assistant Director salary range is currently $178, 713.34 - $288, 700.62. Placement within this range will be dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the individual selected. Mill Valley, the third largest city in Marin County, is located 6 miles north of San Francisco at the foot of Mount Tamalpais. The population is 14,500 with another 16,000 within its sphere of influence. The city is primarily residential with an active commercial element supporting local needs. The mountain and panoramic views of San Francisco create an awe-inspiring backdrop for thousands of hikers and mountain bikers who visit Mill Valley each year. They enjoy miles of fire roads and hiking trails both within the City limits and on adjacent Water District lands. ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs. This is the entry level classification in the professional police series requiring sworn peace officer status.

Examples of Essential Duties (include but are not limited to):

•  Patrol the City in radio-equipped car or on foot.
•  Answer calls for the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of city, county, and state laws.
• Conduct both preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, hold-ups, vehicle accidents, death, and other criminal incidents.
• Patrol the City and respond to calls related to traffic incidents and any other required emergencies.
• Observe, monitor, and control routine and unusual traffic conditions.
• Assist and advise motorists and enforce traffic safety laws.
• Make arrests as necessary.
• Interview victims, complainants, and witnesses.
• Interrogate suspects; gather and preserve evidence.
