The Summer Internship Program will run for 12 weeks from June 9 to August 29, 2025. The Sheriff’s Office is searching for up to 20 Summer Interns to perform a variety of administrative functions throughout the following divisions of our office:

The Role:

What You’ll Do

The Engineering Technician I/II performs a variety of technical drafting, office and field engineering work. The position receives immediate supervision from higher engineering personnel.

The Engineering Technician I/II position is flexibly staffed based on experience and may be filled at either level. Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Locate utilities, easements, property lines and other information on plans.
• Prepare topographical plan and profile maps of property and pertinent features from survey notes and legal descriptions.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Foster City Police Department is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled individual to join our team as an Police Dispatcher. The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the city’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. Amenities include Centennial Dog Park, bocce ball courts, an above-ground skate park, a variety of ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic shelters and group picnic areas.
 

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION:

The ideal part-time Park Maintenance Worker will be able to prioritize work and coordinate multiple tasks while working cooperatively with a variety of people, consistently ensuring excellent customer service. Capable of organizing duties, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimal supervision to maintain parks and public facilities according to established standards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in park and landscape maintenance, as well as an understanding of occupational hazards and related safety practices.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains all types of landscaped areas through mowing, watering, planting, trimming, weeding, and fertilizing.
• Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
• Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chippers, and related grounds and tree maintenance equipment.
• Cleans and perform minor repairs to park and recreation equipment, buildings, and related facilities; maintains and prepares athletic fields.
• Assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems; assists in the maintenance and minor repair of power-driven equipment.
• As assigned, works extended or irregular hours.
• Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the Corporation Yard.
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience in parks and landscape maintenance work is preferred. 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license, and a satisfactory driving record.

Finance Department

Approx. 40 hours/week

$34.41- $41.82 per hour depending on qualifications

This hourly position is not in Civil Service and does not receive benefits.

DEFINITION

Account Clerk I: Under supervision, perform clerical work of moderate difficulty in connection with preparing, maintaining or checking financial or statistical records; receive and receipt money; operate office accounting machines; do related work as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Cashier

The Cashier receives and receipts cash payments and maintains daily files of validated documents; balances transaction and prepares cash reports daily; does responsible clerical accounting work in maintaining financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; batch balances cash from various City entities; organizes money and sets up daily starting cash drawer; computer posts utility transactions as required; maintains the Petty Cash Fund; answers customer inquiries on account status using computer equipment; issues various parking permits and maintains related files; store, issues, and controls vehicle ignition keys for City pool cars, and records and reports mileage/usage; types routine documents; and assists with various Utility Billing Division activities as required.

Utility Billing Division

Either manually or through the use of computers, as appropriate, does responsible clerical accounting work in the maintenance of financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; interacts with residents through phone, email, and in person; receives and receipts money; prepares records to open, change, maintain or close utility accounts; performs routine arithmetical computations; opening, sorting, and processing mail; operates adding machines; does routine typing of documents and precise computer data entry of financial data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: 

Account Clerk I level: Methods, principles, and terminology used in financial clerical work; and modern office practices.

Ability to:  

Perform clerical work of average difficulty; prepare basic financial reports, maintain journals, ledgers, and complex files; operate adding and calculating machines; perform arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:

Account Clerk I:  One year of clerical experience involving financial record keeping and general office work; six (6) months of experience using computer spreadsheets is desirable.

Education:  Graduation from high school or equivalent.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the City’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping and performs a wide range of tasks in order to care for City parks and open spaces. Staff work throughout the year to refresh the appearance of parks repairing or replacing items as needed to keep public spaces clean and safe. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. Amenities include Centennial Dog Park, bocce ball courts, an above-ground skate park, a variety of ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic shelters and group picnic areas.
