THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Public Works and Utilities is comprised of six divisions that work collaboratively to develop, build, operate, and maintain Hayward's infrastructure. The Department is responsible for providing engineering and transportation support to City operating departments and divisions and for implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Program, all while providing excellent customer service to the community.
The Silliman Family Aquatic Center Lifeguard Academy is for those seeking employment with the City of Newark. This program is a beginner-level course that covers Lifeguard Training, Water Park Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Swim Lesson Instruction, and center-specific training. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.
