The Public Works Department
The Public Works Department consists of Design Engineering, Development Engineering, Construction, Civic Facilities, Transportation, Survey, and Real Property sections. The department reviews all proposed land development projects in the City and executes the design and construction of public projects such as streets, parks, and public buildings.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs. This is the entry level classification in the professional police series requiring sworn peace officer status.

Examples of Essential Duties (include but are not limited to):

•  Patrol the City in radio-equipped car or on foot.
•  Answer calls for the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of city, county, and state laws.
• Conduct both preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, hold-ups, vehicle accidents, death, and other criminal incidents.
• Patrol the City and respond to calls related to traffic incidents and any other required emergencies.
• Observe, monitor, and control routine and unusual traffic conditions.
• Assist and advise motorists and enforce traffic safety laws.
• Make arrests as necessary.
• Interview victims, complainants, and witnesses.
• Interrogate suspects; gather and preserve evidence.

The Position

This position is part of the Food Waste Reduction team, which works to reduce food loss and waste while supporting soil health, local economies, and access to nutritious food.

The Program Manager I supports program implementation, partnerships, and technical assistance related to food waste prevention and edible food recovery. This includes working with consultants and grantees, coordinating pilot projects, developing resources, supporting SB 1383 compliance, and directly engaging with local governments, businesses, schools, and community partners.

This role is ideal for someone who can manage projects independently while collaborating across teams and with external partners. The Program Manager I will take ownership of discrete program components, operating under the direction of a Senior Program Manager while supporting broader team initiatives.

Building Maintenance Workers (HVAC) design, fabricate, inspect, install, troubleshoot and evaluate problems with HVAC equipment.  They also repair heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and related apparatus. Additionally, they install, repair and/or replace controls for energy management system as well as perform preventive maintenance and sheet metal work, including design and fabrication.

The Building Maintenance Division of the Maintenance Operations Department is also seeking experienced Building Maintenance Workers to provide general maintenance support for all public facilities, such as City Hall, Historic Buildings, Fire Stations, Police Department, Recreation facilities, and Rental Housing. Maintenance tasks for the general assignment typically include painting, electrical repairs, wall repair, roof repair, carpentry/metal work, and floor repair.

PART-TIME LIBRARIAN I/LIBRARY ASSISTANT I

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time librarian who is passionate about public service, shows initiative, and has a strong work ethic to work the adult reference desk. This is a great opportunity to get experience in reference work and assisting patrons with their needs. You will work in a very fast-paced, collaborative environment.  

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF HOURS:

Will work at least one shift per week with additional sub hours available. Applicant must be able to work Saturday (9:15am - 5:15pm) and/or Sunday (11:30am - 5pm) and one weeknight until 8pm. 

Salary: $24.77 - $41.04/hour depending on experience and education.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Staffing the Adult Reference Desk is the primary responsibility of this position. A knowledge of literature or the desire to read widely is essential in making book recommendations and understanding types of computers and assisting with technology troubleshooting is crucial. The Mill Valley Library is fast-paced and innovative; the person in this position needs to learn new skills quickly, adapt easily to change, be detail-oriented, and patron focused. Many part-time staff are cross trained to work in other Library departments as needed.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Provide reference services including readers’ advisory. 
• Provide excellent customer service to all patrons with consistency and in line with library policies.
• Assist patrons troubleshooting technological issues on both library computers and personal devices.
• Help with programming as needed.
• Additional duties based on interests and demonstrated quality of work.

The City of Pleasant Hill is currently seeking applicants for Police Officer Trainee. The Trainee position is a non-sworn, entry-level position. As a Trainee, you will be assigned to attend an upcoming POST-approved Police Academy. Upon successful completion of the Academy, you will be eligible for appointment to the position of a sworn Police Officer.   

Sworn Police Officers can serve in patrol, traffic, investigations, and K-9 assignments. Police Officer Trainee Duties:

• Participate in and complete a prescribed law enforcement officer training program for entry level police officers, including training in report writing, laws of arrest and seizure, defensive driving, California Vehicle and Penal Codes, officer survival and physical fitness.
• Prior to entering the law enforcement academy training program, perform a wide variety of police support duties which may include dispatching and records, duties acting as desk officer and/or assisting in planning and research activities.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

• Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places.
• Learn to use and property care for firearms.
• Think and act quickly in emergencies, and judge situations and people accurately.
• Learn, understand, interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Prepare clear, accurate and grammatically correct written reports.

Ability to
 

• Successfully complete a training program for entry level Police Officer.
• Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contact in the course of work.

• Meet the requirements for Police Officer contained in the California State Government Code.

Experience & Education: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Experience: None required, although previous experience in law enforcement is desirable.
• Education:  High school diploma and 60 units of college-level course work. Candidates with an honorable discharge may be credited with up to 15 semester units for a minimum of 3 years of active duty in the U.S. Armed Services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard).
