ABOUT ALLCOVE:
allcove™ https://allcove.org/ is a youth drop-in center model that has evolved from the Head Space Program in Australia and Foundry Program in British Columbia, Canada. PHCD is working closely with Stanford’s Center for Youth Mental Health and Well Being (CYMHWB) leadership who have been instrumental in defining the model for California and successfully influencing the State of California Mental Health Services & Oversight Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) to provide start up grants for five pilot centers around the State. The Code Enforcement Officer is distinguished from the Supervisor by performing work of moderate difficulty and more routine tasks and duties assigned to this position within this classification series. These tasks involve inspections and enforcement of applicable ordinances pertaining to residential and commercial properties, housing, building construction, and other related regulations.  

The Code Enforcement Officer will respond to citizen concerns and proactively identify violations such as property maintenance issues, and zoning infractions. You will educate the public on code requirements through clear and respectful communication and work collaboratively with other city departments and external agencies to resolve issues. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

GENERAL INFO

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor I/II performs routine public contact and safety work in serving as a pool lifeguard. They also provide essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program support, and minor maintenance duties relating to aquatics. This temporary, parttime position requires working up to 20 hours per week. The role involves ensuring the health and safety of aquatic patrons, facilities are clean, safe, and operational while delivering excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned. 

UNIVERSAL POSITION DUTIES (Applicable to all roles; Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Monitor the swimming pool and enforce safety regulations.
• Assist with aquatics programs, special events, and facility upkeep.
• Test and maintain pool water chemistry.
• Set up and tear down for classes, programs, and events.
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
• Work outdoors in sun, rain, or wind as needed.

POSITION-SPECIFIC DUTIES

LIFEGUARD (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Maintain a "rescue-ready" posture and scan assigned zones for drowning emergencies.
• Work in a rotation with other lifeguards across indoor and outdoor stations.
• Assist with facility operations, special events, and customer service.
• Attend weekly and monthly safety trainings.
• Perform light cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure facility safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum Age: 15
• Education: High school diploma or GED not required.
• Certifications:
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or ability to obtain).
  • First Aid & CPR Certification.

SWIM INSTRUCTOR (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Teach American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim lessons following provided lesson plans.
• Maintain open communication with parents and participants.
• Assist with emergency responses and pool safety as trained.
• Attend weekly and monthly safety trainings.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure facility upkeep.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum Age: 15
• Education: High school diploma or GED not required.
• Skills: Swimming proficiency at American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Level 4.
• Preferred Certification: Water Safety Instructor

SWIM INSTRUCTOR II – LESSON MANAGER (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Oversee swim instructors and ensure consistent lesson delivery.
• Arrive 30 minutes prior to and stay 30 minutes after swim lessons for setup and breakdown.
• Assist with instructor training and safety drills.
• Maintain and review lesson records to ensure program quality.
• Perform facility upkeep and provide customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:

• All requirements from Swim Instructor, PLUS:
• Experience: At least 6 months of experience as a Swim Instructor.

LIFEGUARD II - POOL MANAGER (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Supervise lifeguards and enforce safety procedures.
• Conduct lifeguard rotations and monitor staff performance.
• Ensure staff maintain a “rescue-ready” posture and remain alert while on duty.
• Assist in planning and leading weekly and monthly safety trainings.
• Monitor pool chemicals and water quality.
• Open, close, and secure facility as needed.
• Provide customer service, event support, and light facility maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum Age: 18
• Experience: At least 6 months of experience as a lifeguard.
• Preferred Certification: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Outdoor environment with exposure to sun, wind, and pool chemicals.
• Variable hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work in loud or quiet environments depending on location.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED

This position entails 10 to 20 hours per week, with shifts available during weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Position Summary: 

The Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer plays a key role in providing essential fitness instruction and personalized training programs to help individuals achieve their health and fitness goals. The responsibilities include instructing group fitness classes, offering personal training sessions, designing customized fitness programs for clients, ensuring safe and effective exercises, motivating and encouraging participants, providing feedback and adjustments to exercises, and monitoring clients' progress for continuous improvement. This role will also be providing excellent customer service, addressing fitness-related inquiries, maintaining a positive and motivating environment for everyone, and ensuring the fitness facility is clean, safe, and fully operational. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.  

• Certification in personal training or group fitness instruction required (e.g., ACE, NASM, or other recognized certification).  

• At least one year of experience in fitness instruction, personal training, or a related field preferred.  

• Experience in group instruction and one-on-one training is highly desirable. 

Knowledge and Skills: 

This position requires a knowledge of general fitness principles, exercise techniques, and wellness practices, instructing and motivating individuals or groups in a fitness setting, excellent communication to provide clear instruction and positive feedback and assessing client needs and creating individualized fitness programs. The position also requires ability to operate and maintain fitness equipment safely. 

Special Requirements: 

• Current certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). 

• Fitness certifications (e.g., Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor) from a nationally recognized organization.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is hiring two part-time Recreation Specialist positions, each with a distinct focus. One position will support Youth, Adaptive, and Senior programs, while the other will focus specifically on serving the East Gilroy neighborhood with various recreation programs. Both roles will involve leading programs for socio-economically disadvantaged youth, teens, and adults, managing part-time staff, program planning, administering grants, and collaborating with local organizations and public agencies.
 
Under general supervision of a Recreation Manager, Recreation Supervisor, or Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Specialist will plan, organize, and direct the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program areas include but are not limited to: Adaptive (special needs), Adult and/or Youth Sports such as organized leagues or classes, After School Program, Cultural Arts, Facility Attendant, Senior Center, Special Events, Summer Camps, Theater, and Youth Center/Youth Services. This is an entry-level, paraprofessional position supporting the Recreation Division.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for part-time Recreation Leaders II/III assigned to the Adaptive Program. The main goal of the City of Gilroy’s Recreation Division is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents. 
 
Under direct supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader II/III will assist, plan, organize, and lead the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program area focus is Adaptive (Special Needs), but you might be asked to support another recreation area.

 When assigned to the Adaptive Program, the leader will have an opportunity to have hands-on experience working with a special needs population.  Disabilities of participants vary in range from non-communicative to diminished motor skills to severe autism.  The position will report to an experienced staff member.  As related experience is gained as noted in the job qualifications and requirements, and with the recommendation in the employee’s performance evaluation, Recreation Leaders can advance from Recreation Leader II to Recreation Leader III.  As the employee advances through the job series the employee will take on more responsibility and more challenging work assignments.
