About this Role 

The Entry-Level Police Officer position is an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in beginning a meaningful career in law enforcement. This position does not require any prior law enforcement experience. Selected candidates will receive full compensation while attending the Police Academy and participating in the Field Training Program. Duties include city patrols, emergency response, criminal investigations, arrests, traffic enforcement, community interaction, and various assignments designed to ensure public safety.

Qualifications 

• High school diploma or equivalent (2-year or 4-year degree preferred). 
• Must be at least 21 years of age. 
• No felony convictions. 
• U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Alien eligible and applied for citizenship. 
• Valid California Driver’s License. 
• Passing score of 48 on PELLETB and WTSB score of 320 within the last year. 
• Ability to pass a rigorous background investigation.

The Position

The current opening is for a casual, part-time Police Community Service Officer and is under the direction of the Police Sergeant.  The Police Community Service Officer is an entry level, non-sworn, technical support classification associated with law enforcement in the Town Police Department and may perform a variety of responsible duties not requiring the attention of a sworn officer. The focus of the incumbent is parking enforcement.  

• Casual, Part-time - less than 20 hours on average per week 
• Varied work hours - days, evenings and weekends

Essential Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Identify, warn, cite and authorize towing of abandoned vehicles and vehicles in violation of other parking restrictions

• Take minor incident reports and make report copies

• Provide information to, answer inquiries from, and assist as needed members of the public

• Cooperate with other police personnel, other Town departments and related county and social service agencies and investigate selected Code Enforcement Violations

• Enter and retrieve information from Police Department computers and communicate via telephone and police radio

• Fingerprint (LiveScan) members of the public and employment applicants
