This fellow posting is for the Digital Media & Communications Fellow in the Police Department.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Digital Media & Communications Intern supports the Police Department by organizing and maintaining digital media assets, including photographs and video content. This role assists with capturing additional photos and video to expand the department’s digital media library and ensures content is easily accessible for communication and outreach needs. The intern will also help develop a portfolio of reusable design templates, flyers, brochures, and recruiting materials to support community engagement, public information, and recruitment efforts.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate for the Digital Media & Communications Intern position is a creative, organized, and detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in digital media, visual design, and public-sector communications. The successful candidate will have experience capturing and editing photographs and video, managing digital files, and creating visually consistent materials across multiple platforms.

This candidate demonstrates proficiency with design and media tools (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar software) and has a foundational understanding of branding, layout, and visual storytelling. They are comfortable developing templates, flyers, brochures, and recruiting materials that align with established guidelines and messaging.

Strong organizational skills, the ability to manage and catalog digital assets, and a willingness to work collaboratively with department staff are essential to this position. The ideal candidate is professional, reliable, and able to exercise discretion when working with law-enforcement-related content, while contributing positively to community engagement and recruitment initiatives.

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS
The goals of the position are to:

1.  Evaluate our current supplies of digital information and create a library of quality data.

2.  Gather additional photographs and videos to supplement and improve our current library.

3.  Create a portfolio of templates to be utilized in the future.

4.  Create flyers, brochures and handouts to assist in current and future recruiting efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of high school

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  No other benefits compensations are provided except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave.  Employees must contribute 1.45% of their salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan under Federal Law.

WOODLAND JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT HOST SITE

Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) is partnering with the City of Woodland to host two fellows as part of this year’s Civic Fellowship Program. The fellows will work on-site at WJUSD Business Services Office and receive day-to-day guidance and supervision from WJUSD staff while remaining part of the fellowship cohort and participating in program-wide activities.

This posting is for the Environmental Impact Analyst Fellow within the Business Services Department, specifically in the Maintenance, Operations and Facilities at WJUSD.  

Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, up to 40 hours per week.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities Department is seeking a motivated Civic Fellow to support the district’s sustainability and environmental stewardship efforts. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in sustainability practices, facilities operations, and process improvement within a public education setting.

The Civic Fellow will assist in assessing current district practices related to recycling, waste reduction, and resource conservation. This may include reviewing recycling programs, observing waste management practices at school sites, and identifying opportunities to improve sustainability efforts. Working closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities staff, the Fellow will help research best practices and develop practical recommendations to improve environmental outcomes and operational efficiency.

This fellowship provides practical exposure to sustainability planning, facilities management, and public sector operations, equipping participants with valuable skills in research, data analysis, environmental practices, and process improvement while contributing to the district’s commitment to responsible resource management.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a motivated and detail-oriented individual with an interest in sustainability, environmental science, public administration, and/or facilities operations. The Civic Fellow should be comfortable conducting research, making observations, and working collaboratively with staff across multiple departments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn about sustainability practices. Interest in environmental responsibility, waste reduction, or operational efficiency is desirable. Experience with research, data collection, or spreadsheets is helpful but not required.

This position is well suited for someone who enjoys identifying practical solutions, working on real-world challenges, and contributing to efforts that improve environmental responsibility within a large organization.

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS

The goals of the position are to:

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland seeks a motivated public servant to join the City Manager's Office – Environmental Services Division as our Water Conservation Analyst Fellow. The Water Conservation Analyst will support key sustainability efforts by conducting a comprehensive analysis of municipal water usage and the City's response to leaks/over usage across public facilities. The Fellow will analyze five years of historical water consumption data to identify trends, anomalies, inefficiencies, and high-risk locations for water loss. A key focus of the project will be evaluating how the City currently tracks leaks and over-usage, how alerts are generated and routed, and how staff respond to those alerts. The Fellow will propose recommendations to improve leak detection, streamline response protocols, strengthen reporting systems, and reduce water waste supporting long-term water conservation goals.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate will be interested in sustainability, municipal operations and public policy. They will also be analytical and detail-oriented, preferably with experience working with large datasets. They will be comfortable cleaning, organizing, and interpreting utility data. An individual skilled in Excel and/or data tools such as GIS, Power BI, Tableau, R, or Python will excel in this role.

The Ideal Candidate will be able to translate technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations and communicate clearly with internal and external customers (facilities staff, public works teams, and sustainability leadership).

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS
The goal of the position is:

1. Conduct Comprehensive Water Consumption Analysis
Perform a five-year longitudinal analysis of municipal water usage across City facilities to identify consumption trends, seasonal variability, anomalies, and high-risk locations for potential water loss.

2. Evaluate Leak Detection and Alert Systems
Assess the City’s current leak and over-usage tracking mechanisms, including data collection methods, alert generation protocols, routing procedures, and response timelines to determine system effectiveness and gaps.

3. Identify Operational Inefficiencies and Risk Factors
Diagnose procedural, technological, or communication breakdowns contributing to delayed responses, excessive water use, or undetected leaks, and quantify associated operational and financial impacts where feasible.

4. Develop Strategic Recommendations for System Improvement
Propose data-driven recommendations to enhance leak detection capabilities, streamline interdepartmental response workflows, strengthen reporting infrastructure, and improve accountability measures.

5. Advance Long-Term Water Conservation Outcomes
Deliver a final analytical report and implementation roadmap that supports the City’s broader sustainability and drought-resilience goals, ensuring recommendations are actionable, scalable, and aligned with municipal resource constraints.

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS

The goal of the position is:

1. Learn about and reinvigorate the City's "The Food Front" food and agricultural economic development campaign. Help with scheduling key stakeholder meetings, running campaigns online, refreshing and improving webpages, and planning engagement events.

2. Lead community and civic engagement efforts, from supporting City Council Members with outreach to preparing materials for anything from possible Prop. 218 fee proposals to education around public programs. 

3. Become familiar with the City's multimedia platforms and help create content, including vertical videos, podcasts, employee highlights, promotions for Community Services programs, events, and initiatives, traditional door to door outreach materials, and more.

4. Research and observe the rollout of SB707 and assist staff with implementing its provisions related to participation and outreach.

5. Analyze performance data and existing marketing strategies used by the City, focusing on campaign objectives, target audiences, and content types.

6. Define and support community engagement efforts and highlight their importance within local government services.

7. Propose innovative and inclusive campaign ideas tailored to local demographics and community needs.

8. Support ADA compliance efforts by reviewing and improving accessibility of social media and website content.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland Public Works Department is seeking a motivated Civic Fellow to support and enhance fleet data management operations. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in municipal asset management and public sector budgeting.

The Civic Fellow will assist in updating and maintaining the City’s fleet management system, ensuring accurate records for vehicle assets, reserve fund balances, and fixed and variable rate information. Working closely with Public Works and Finance staff, the Fellow will help develop streamlined data management processes within the RTA fleet management software, improving operational efficiency and reporting accuracy.

This fellowship provides practical exposure to fleet asset tracking, financial record-keeping, and interdepartmental collaboration, equipping participants with valuable skills in data management, system implementation, and public sector operations setting the foundation for an exciting career in municipal government.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate is a detail-oriented, organized, and motivated student or recent graduate with a strong interest in data management, fleet operations, and asset management. They are eager to gain hands-on experience using fleet management software to maintain accurate vehicle asset records, reserve fund balances, and fixed and variable rate information.

This individual is proficient with computer software systems, including spreadsheets and data tracking tools, and demonstrates the ability to efficiently organize, analyze, and maintain electronic records. Experience with databases or enterprise systems, as well as the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software applications, is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, and thrives in a collaborative environment, working closely with Finance and Public Works staff. They are proactive, willing to ask questions, and committed to learning complex processes while contributing to improving data quality, record-keeping, and documentation practices.

The goals of this position are to:

1. Accurately update fleet asset data in the City’s fleet management system (RTA), including vehicle asset records, reserve fund balances, and fixed and variable rate.

2. Accurately review existing records, identifying discrepancies or missing information, and coordinating with Public Works and Finance staff to verify and correct data.

3. Standardize and document data entry practices for fleet financial and asset information, including clear procedures for rate updates, reserve balance tracking, and vehicle record maintenance.

4. Improve data quality and reporting readiness by developing procedures to ensure fleet and financial records are complete, current, and aligned with internal reporting and budget preparation needs.

5. Provide technical support to other staff related to system use, data requests, and basic reporting from the fleet management system.

6. Develop a working understanding of municipal fleet operations and funding structures, including equipment replacement planning and reserve funding practices.

7. Contribute to continuous process improvement by identifying opportunities to improve data workflows, documentation, and coordination between Public Works and Finance.

The City of Woodland has established a paid summer fellow program for individuals early in their career seeking public service experience. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland is seeking a motivated, resourceful self-starter to join the Community Development Planning team in a dynamic fellowship role that bridges municipal planning and historic preservation. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in core planning functions while contributing meaningfully to the preservation and celebration of the City’s historic character.

In this role, the Fellow will serve as a key point of contact for residents, property owners, and community stakeholders seeking information on general planning inquiries, zoning standards, and land use regulations. The position provides practical exposure to municipal planning processes, including development review, interpretation of zoning codes, and customer service within a public-sector framework.

A central component of the fellowship will be leading a comprehensive revamp of the City’s historic preservation education and outreach efforts. This includes researching and developing accessible educational materials, enhancing digital resources, and expanding community awareness of preservation programs and incentives. The Fellow will gain experience working with state and federal historic preservation documentation requirements and processes, strengthening their understanding of regulatory compliance and cultural resource management.

Additional responsibilities will include supporting GIS-based storytelling initiatives through interactive story mapping, assisting with webpage design and content updates to improve public access to preservation resources, and contributing to the coordination of the City’s Heritage Home Awards program.

The Ideal Candidate is an adaptable, community-focused emerging professional with a strong interest in municipal planning and historic preservation. They are eager to develop practical skills within a local government setting and motivated by the opportunity to contribute to projects that shape and celebrate the built environment.

Applicants should be a current student or recent graduate in Urban Planning, History, Public Administration, Architecture, or a closely related field. The successful candidate demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly explain complex zoning, land use, or preservation concepts to residents, property owners, and other stakeholders in an accessible and professional manner.

This individual is comfortable conducting technical research and collecting data to inform planning initiatives, policy analysis, and outreach efforts. Familiarity with tools and concepts such as GIS mapping (ArcGIS or QGIS), zoning analysis, site plan review, and urban design principles is highly desirable. The candidate should be capable of synthesizing information into concise summaries, visual materials, or presentations that support decision-making and community understanding.

Strong organizational skills and comfort with administrative tools, including the Microsoft Office Suite, standard office equipment, and multiline phone systems, are expected. Additionally, the Ideal Candidate brings an interest or experience in community storytelling, stakeholder facilitation, public workshop coordination, and visual communication, recognizing the importance of inclusive engagement in effective planning practice.

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS

The primary goal of this fellowship is to provide hands-on experience in the daily operations of a municipal planning office, preparing participants for expanded career opportunities in urban planning, historic preservation, and community development. Key objectives include:

1. Public Engagement: Serve as a front-line resource at the Planning Counter, providing clear, professional guidance to residents, property owners, and developers on zoning, land use, and permit inquiries.
    
2. Inquiry Management: Respond to phone and email inquiries regarding City codes, permitting processes, and planning regulations, ensuring accurate and timely information.
    
3. Technical Research: Conduct site-specific research, data collection, and documentation to support historic preservation projects and planning initiatives.
    
4. Heritage Home Awards: Assist with the planning, nomination review, coordination, and promotion of the City’s annual Heritage Home Awards program.
    
5. Website Revamp: Audit, update, and redesign the Historic Preservation section of the City’s website to create a comprehensive, user-friendly educational hub for homeowners and the community.
    
6. Interactive Story Map: Develop an engaging Historic Resource Story Map using GIS tools, featuring photos, architectural descriptions, and cultural context to enhance public understanding of Woodland’s landmark sites.
    
7. Historical Resource Development: Create and curate downloadable resources—including preservation guidelines, tax credit information, and step-by-step educational content—to support property owners in restoring and maintaining historic properties.

This fellowship emphasizes a combination of practical planning experience, digital storytelling, and community outreach to provide a well-rounded foundation for future careers in public service and historic preservation.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of high school
• Local Woodland knowledge preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders 
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Valid California driver license (if driving is an essential duty)

SALARY RANGE
$20.00 - $25.00 / hour dependent on experience.

The pay cycle is bi-weekly. No other benefits compensations are provided except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave. Employees must contribute 1.45% of their salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan under Federal Law.

The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department seeks qualified individuals with the passion and desire to work with youth campers as a summer Camp Counselor (Recreation Leader) in the Parks and Recreation Department.   This position takes direction from the Camp Director and Camp Coordinator (Recreation Program Specialist) and reports to the City's full-time Recreation Coordinator.

INTERVIEWS:  In-person group interviews will occur on Monday, April 13 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm OR Wednesday, April 15 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.  Please be prepared to attend one of these pre-set interview times.

WORK HOURS:  Work hours vary depending on the number of staff and youth participants.  Approximate work hours are Monday through Friday 8:45 am to 4:00 pm and Extended Care from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

Incumbents of the position will provide their own transportation to program site(s). 

Essential Duties:

Camp Counselors (Recreation Leaders) are assigned to the summer day camp programs working with children ages 3 1/2 to 12 years old.  They assist, plan, organize and lead the physical, recreational and social activities of assigned recreation programs under direction of the Camp Director (Recreation Program Specialist) and the Recreation Coordinator.  

• Bring energy and enthusiasm to the camp environment every day.
• Safely and appropriately supervise campers at all times.
• Plan and lead arts, crafts, games and sports according to the theme of the week.
• Serve as a mentor and role model to campers by modeling positive behavior at all times.
• Use positive discipline with campers and communicate effectively with parents and guardians.
• Effectively collaborate with fellow camp staffers and Parks and Recreation Department staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

All City of Orinda employees are expected to uphold and exhibit the City’s core values including serving the public, being respectful and accountable, maintaining professionalism, and demonstrating responsibility.

Education: Must have completed at least ninth (9) grade by the start of camp.  Coursework in recreation, sports, administration, human development, education or related field is preferred.  

Experience: Recreation, athletics and/or education experience is desirable.  Experience teaching and/or working with children and youth age twelve (12) and under is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED training and/or certification are required prior to the first day of camp.  There will be a CPR, First Aid and AED training on the May 30, 2026 Training Day.

Special Requirements:    Appointments to this position are contingent upon:

• A valid work permit issued from school (if under age 18 and have not graduated from high school or received a State Certificate of Proficiency).
