EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. 

Experience:

• Two (2) years of increasingly responsible support experience with a public agency working in building inspection, planning, or engineering or equivalent private sector experience with a high level of public contact and experience explaining procedures and regulations.

License:

• This classification requires the ability to travel independently within and outside of City limits.
• Possession of a Building Permit Technician certification from the International Code Council within the probationary period and throughout employment.

DEFINITION

The City of Orinda Planning Department seeks a responsible and enthusiastic college student or recent college graduate to assist the Department with a variety of tasks.  The ideal candidate will have interest in local government, be able to work both independently and collaboratively, and represent the City in a manner that is professional, effective, and tactful.  Working a flexible schedule of up to 20 hours per week, the Planning Intern will perform responsible work in the areas of both current and long-range planning.

The Planning Intern will be paid on an hourly basis for actual hours worked - up to a maximum of 20 hours per week.   

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds to public inquiries regarding zoning and related matters on the phone, via email, and at the Planning Counter.
• Conducts field work, including Planning Final Inspections, site visits, and code-enforcement.
• Assists staff in collecting and preparing data for various planning projects and provides support at community meetings as necessary.
• Conducts basic office functions such as data entry and file management.
• Researches and prepares routine graphic displays/exhibits for use by the Department, Planning Commission, and City Council.
• Drafts reports of limited or variable complexity.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong communication (written and oral), research, and analytical skills.
• Competency in basic computer programs/applications such as Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Box, etc.
• Basic understanding of planning principles.
• Ability to work in a standard office environment including ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and lift 30 lbs.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and an occupational medical pre-employment physical exam which includes a pre-employment drug screen.
• Ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Coursework and/or experience with aspects of urban planning, long-range planning, urban redevelopment, public policy, civic engagement, stakeholder participation, and governance.
• Ability to remain flexible and work both independently and collaboratively in a diverse and dynamic environment.
• Ability to learn fast and adapt quickly without comprising the quality of work.
• Competency in ESRI ArcGIS.

DEFINITION

Under the general direction of the Director and City Engineer, the Civil Engineering Associate/Project Manager – Capital Projects leads the delivery of complex capital infrastructure and facility projects for the Town of Danville.  This role focuses on high-value construction and modernization projects, including buildings, utilities, and public infrastructure. The position serves as a critical liaison between Town departments, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure successful execution of capital projects within scope, schedule, and budget.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Director and City Engineer. Exercises supervision over Public Works Inspectors and contractors.  This is a journeyman-level, first line supervisory position requiring substantial independent judgment, technical expertise, and leadership in managing capital improvement projects. The position reports to the City Engineer and may supervise professional and technical staff. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Train, direct and manage Public Works Inspectors to perform and document daily inspections of construction projects, private development projects, encroachment permits and clean water inspections to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permit conditions of approval and Town standards.
• Oversee day-to-day operations for paving construction projects ensuring project is completed safely, on schedule, according to quality specified and within budget.
• Plans, organizes, directs and controls all parts of projects from permitting, bidding, and construction to the closeout for a portfolio of complex capital improvement projects.
• Prepares and monitors project budgets, including support for obtaining funding.
• Facilitates work of a multi-disciplinary development team across organizational boundaries, including designers and construction professionals.
• Develops and maintains detailed project schedules and budgets, tracks expenditures, and recommends cost control strategies.
• Reviews and processes change orders, ensures quality control, and oversees contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
• Prepares reports, presentations, and communications to inform internal and external stakeholders, including Town Council.
• Ensures that contractors are maintaining safe work sites and that the needs of the staff at each project are being protected.
• Coordinates final project closeout including punch list items, documentation, and transfer to operations.
• Manages consultant contracts and coordinates with engineers, architects, construction managers, and inspectors.
• Facilitates cross-departmental coordination and public outreach related to project scope, impacts, and progress.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Financing, estimating and budgeting, including planning and estimating, calculating overhead, design and construction costs.  General knowledge of various funding sources and restrictions.
• Regulations and regulatory agencies and commissions affecting planning, zoning, design and construction.
• Requirements of final bid packages.
• Construction management techniques and practices.
• Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibilities Guidelines (ADAAG), and California accessibility requirements that are in Title 24 of California Code of Regulations.
• Principles and practices of capital project delivery, including public procurement and contract management.
• Public works design and construction standards, codes, regulations, and funding programs.
• Construction methods and materials across civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
• CEQA and permitting processes at local and state levels.
• Knowledge of planning and building department review process for capital improvement projects.

• Use computer-based scheduling software, documentation management, and project management systems.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.

The Position

The Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical and administrative leadership to the Aging and Family Services Division. The mission of the Aging and Family Services Division is to foster a high quality of life for older adults through its Senior Support Services. The Senior Support Services employs a team of caring professionals from diverse backgrounds which include social workers, a public health nurse, counselors, and peers who will work closely with other department staff to provide cohesive wrap-around services for older adults and their families.

Examples of Job Duties

• Develop and maintain systems necessary to support effective and efficient Senior Support Programs. This includes the responsibilities of: supervising a multi-disciplinary team; monitoring contractual and billing procedures; electronic charting requirements; working with other providers and referral organizations; utilization review and methods for integrating the work of the Aging and Family Services Division and Human Services Department.
• Facilitate and support the work of a multi-disciplinary team in providing services to seniors with complex care needs and their caregivers.
• Oversee contract development, billing processes and service deliverables necessary to support the programs. Complete reports required by funding agencies and build strong working relationships with funding parties.

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced skateboarding instructor who can connect with participants of all ages, especially youth and teens. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be Available for a variety of shifts and times to meet program needs including weekends.

The Department

The Multipurpose Senior Service Program (MSSP) Case Manager will perform professional and clinical social work tasks and duties for older adults living with complex medical conditions to assist them to obtain optimum health, financial, and/or social services. As a member of the Human Services Department, this position reports to a Clinical Supervisor in the Aging and Family Services Division.

This is a regular, part-time position (32 hours/week) and will receive pro-rated benefits.
