Under the general direction of the Senior Information Systems Manager, this position provides system support during implementation and ongoing support after implementation including report writing, configuration, routine inquiries and user support for the District’s various enterprise technology systems including UKG Pro Workforce Management Time & Attendance and Central Square Technologies Finance Enterprise.   The Business Information Systems Engineer works with end-users, vendors, and members of the Information Systems Department to identify, analyze, and resolve systems issues and provide maximum capability and satisfaction to users.

Essential Responsibilities

• Serves as a technical lead of the enterprise application
• Focused on delivering excellent customer service
• Adhere to incident, problem, change management, and other Information Systems best practices
• Plan, organize, direct and coordinate the ongoing automation and usage of the district-wide application systems
• Develop and maintain user and technical knowledge of application systems
• Serve as the liaison between application system users, vendor provided help desk as well as the Information Systems Department
• Plan, co-ordinate and test system upgrades
• Fulfill users various data mining requests
• Support the various large interface integrations between the application systems and fixing data problems that occur in these interfaces
• Develop and provide user training for all modules of the systems
• Writes user documentation, provides user information, procedures, and training materials in a variety of formats as needed
• Develops a knowledge base of problem symptoms and solutions to improve the timeliness of problem resolution
• Identify unused system functionality and present opportunities for improvement of business processes using this functionality
• Continue to monitor and stay current on new features contained in new releases of the software
• Recommend and implement software upgrade paths
• Develop relationships with other agency users of the applications
• Maintains strong technical competence in Microsoft Office products such as Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, and PowerPoint
• Other duties as assigned at the direction of the Information Systems Manager

The City of Menlo Park is currently accepting applications for a temporary Equipment Mechanic in the Fleet Services Section of the Public Works Department. A temporary equipment mechanic performs diagnostic, maintenance and repair services on light and heavy city vehicles and equipment, such as automobiles, storm/sewer trucks, aerial bucket trucks, dump trucks shuttle buses, construction equipment, lawn mowers, small equipment and stationary generators; and performs other duties as assigned.

The temporary equipment mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Under immediate supervision, learns and performs inspection of public works street, highway, bridge and tract right of way construction projects; performs related duties as required.

Class Characteristics

This entry-level classification in the Construction Inspector series reports to a Senior Civil Engineer through a Construction Coordinator in the Construction Inspection Section of the Public Works Engineering Division. It is characterized by the responsibility to learn and to inspect public works construction projects for compliance with codes and specifications. Incumbents' assignments, objectives and work methods are specified; issues of fact are referred to the supervisor; review of work is ongoing and responsibility for achieving work objectives rests with a supervisor. Incumbents' work will gradually be done on a more independent basis subject to occasional review in progress through questions/problems and consultation with the supervisor and the section head. It is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Construction Inspector by the latter's technical expertise, performance of fully qualified journey level work with a minimum of supervision, and responsibility to provide training and technical expertise to Construction Inspector incumbents.

 

Essential Functions

• Reviews construction plans, specifications, encroachment permits, and other plans affecting assigned projects.
• Participates in meetings to discuss construction details and resolves issues with contractors and other agencies.
• Conducts on-site inspections of construction materials, grade elevations, underground facilities, construction safety precautions, minor concrete structures, street light installations, traffic signal installations, traffic control devices, and erosion and siltation control installations to determine compliance with contract plans and specifications, and with city and other governmental regulations.
• Makes field measurements.
• Ensures conformance with applicable safety standards and regulations.
• Assists in coordinating materials testing.
• Identifies problems.
• Monitors the correction of project deficiencies.
• Identifies and recommends approval of necessary contract and/or plan adjustments to accommodate field conditions.
• Maintains daily diary and field records of material and quantities used.
• Calculates and recommends formal approval of appropriate progress payments to contractors for work completed.
• Investigates citizen complaints related to encroachment and/or grading violations.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: Surveying and construction staking (grade-setting) practices; standard construction practices including specifications, methods, materials and equipment; mathematics through plane geometry and trigonometry; methods and techniques of materials testing; soil types and characteristics; standard specifications and construction details book (both City and State); construction safety standards; OSHA and CalTrans Traffic Control Devices Manual; traffic safety.

Skill in: Driving an automobile on paved and unpaved surfaces; operating surveying equipment; and preparing field sketches.

Ability to: Evaluate quality of construction and construction materials; determine safety implications of construction techniques; perform mathematical calculations through plane geometry and trigonometry; read blueprints; read public works construction and topography maps and grading plans; determine and verify elevations using hand level and calculator; communicate effectively with individuals from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds both orally and in writing; resolve inter-personal conflicts; identify problems, evaluate alternatives and arrive at logical decisions; read and interpret complex regulations and technical documents, including plans and specifications; understand and use standard engineering and hand held tools used in Public Works Construction Inspection; learn city encroachment and underground ordinances.

Education/Experience

Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge and skills necessary to satisfactory job performance would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be: Graduation from high school and four years experience in a field related to street/highway construction; 60 semester units of college education in engineering, construction techniques and methodologies or building inspection may be substituted for two years experience in construction.

The Position

The City of Fremont is seeking applicants to fill full-time, temporary positions within the Fremont Urban Forestry Service Corps. These positions are paid and have a five-month duration, starting February 3, 2025, and ending June 27, 2025. Experience:  Previous experience as a lifeguard, having worked with youth and WSI certification is desirable.

SALARY AND HOURS:

Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five step scale.  Hours will range from 15-25 hours per week.  Candidates that make the eligibility list may be selected for shifts as needed throughout the year.  Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the entire year.

THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Youth & Family Services Clinical Supervisor and the Community Services Manager, the Intervention Counselor provides crisis intervention, individual and family counseling; identifies appropriate referral services to youth, families and individuals.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

Intervention Counselor is a journey-level professional classification. Incumbents perform the full range of counseling duties within the Community Services division. Incumbents in this position receive occasional instruction as new or unusual situations arise. The Intervention Counselor is distinguished from the Clinical Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for overseeing clinical work, providing direct supervision to clinical staff and interns, responsible for ensuring counselors follow professional guidelines, establishes processes and procedures for the clinical side of the division, researches and provides appropriate training, and is the primary liaison with the school district and police department in regard to referrals, counseling, and crisis support. While the Intervention Counselor provides direct counseling, run group counseling and workshops, and provides intervention services and supportive tools and resources to clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

• Provide individual, family and group counseling to children, adolescents, and adults using a variety of therapeutic and counseling techniques. 
• Provide crisis intervention services around a variety of issues including: incorrigible youth/status offenders, child/adult abuse, domestic violence, trauma, individuals experiencing mental health issues, and families in conflict; may conduct visits at homes, schools, and juvenile detention centers. 
• Conduct assessments to identify appropriate resources, provide referral services and connect clients with additional services as needed.
• May receive, process and track all incoming case management, outreach, and counseling referrals as needed.
• Represent the City of Union City in the name of AC Probation, Centro de Servicios, Tiburcio Vazquez, Malabar House/Eden Counseling Services, NHUSD school administrators – principals, teachers, student services staff, UC Family Center,  Fremont Resource Center, (Fresh Lives for Youth (FLY), Filipinos  Advocates For Justice (FAFJ), MidPen Housing, Bay Area Community Health (BACH),  Safe Alternatives To Violent Environments (SAVE) to continue to develop and maintain relationships with these social welfare agencies and organizations. 
• Prepare and give presentations to youth, parents and community members.
• Conduct outreach to promote programs and services.
• Generate and maintain appropriate records, client files, and accurate statistical/monthly reports.
• Participate in weekly and monthly department and community meetings, trainings, and workshops as necessary.
• May provide guidance and clinical support to non-clinical staff who engage with clients.
