Minimum Qualifications

Budget Analyst I - A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in economics, accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field AND three years of increasingly responsible management and/or administrative analytical work experience, including two years of experience related to budget management or financial analysis.
 

Budget Analyst II - A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in economics, accounting, finance, business administration, public administration or a closely related field AND five years of increasingly responsible management and/or administrative analytical work experience, including two years performing budget management or financial analysis in a public sector agency similar to the City of Sunnyvale.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Management Analyst, the Communications Intern will contribute to a wide range of public information and outreach activities.  The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, responsible, detail oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.  You will help craft digital content, support public engagement campaigns, and represent the City in a professional and tactful manner.

The position offers flexible part-time hours of up to 15-20 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend hours required for community events.  Compensation is on an hourly basis for actual hours worked.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Create and edit content for the City's website, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Nextdoor), newsletters, flyers, and press materials.
• Capture and document City events and programs through photography, video, and interviews.
• Assist with the scheduling and management of social media content.
• Support updates to the City's website and weekly e-newsletters.
• Participate in community outreach events, help at public meetings, and collect community feedback.
• Research and design basic visual materials for presentations and public campaigns.
• Track engagement analytics across digital platforms and compile reports to guide communication strategies.
• Conducts basic office functions such as data entry and file management.

Required Qualifications:

• Enrollment in or recent completion of a degree in communications, journalism, public relations, graphic design, public administration or a closely related field.
• Proficiency in Canva, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms.

• Ability to work in a standard office environment including ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and lift 20 lbs.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Flexible and adaptable with the ability to learn quickly while maintaining high quality work.
• Experience working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of basic public communications, social media, and/or media relations.
• Strong communication (written and oral), research, and organizational skills.

HOUSING OFFICER

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Housing Officer to oversee the Housing Division in the Community Development Department, responsible for the City's affordable housing programs, human services funding, federal grants and homeless services. The ideal candidate will be a passionate affordable housing professional known for being creative and solution-oriented and will be well-versed in state and federal housing legislation and familiar with the unique challenges presented by California's housing market. This position manages the City's varied federal, state and local housing programs and projects and is responsible for managing the technical, fiscal and policy aspects of complex projects and programs. This position serves as liaison to the Housing and Human Services Commission which advises the City Council on funding and policy related to affordable housing and human services. The Housing Officer needs to work collaboratively with the Director, the other two program managers, the Housing Division staff, and many directors and program managers in other City Departments. Currently, major work efforts include implementation of the 2023-2031 Housing Element Programs and establishment of programs to assist unhoused members of the community. We are looking for a driven and detailed professional to take on the role of Accounting Technician. You will join a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, processing the City’s utility billing and other revenue streams and assisting in accounting matters within the Revenue Division of the Finance and Administrative Services Department. What You’ll Do

• Process utility bills for residents and businesses in the City.
• Work with other departments and the City’s waste management service to accurately set up complex utility accounts and process utility bill adjustments.
• Interact with and assist customers to set up, adjust, and/or close their utility accounts and provide general customer service support.
• Reconcile revenue and financial accounting systems, interfacing transactional data between them.
• Create invoices for various departments to collect fees and other sources of revenue.
• Review, reconcile, and record daily revenue transactions.
• Assist with various month-end and year-end accounting tasks specific to the Revenue section.

The Essentials

• Three (3) years of increasingly responsible accounting clerical experience.
• Education equivalent to an associate of arts degree in accounting or a related field. Additional experience may be substituted for some of the required education on a year-to-year basis.

Highly desirable  

• Utility billing and miscellaneous revenue collection and/or customer service experience.
• Experience with financial and/or utility billing software.
• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
