San Mateo County Health's Public Health Policy & Planning (PHPP) Division has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinarian to work in Animal Control and Licensing as a member of the team.
 
The current vacancy is extra help part time 20-hours per week in the Public Health, Policy and Planning Division. The position is stationed in San Mateo, CA, but will travel/drive throughout the County to perform duties of the position.
 
Scheduling is flexible. Daily reporting hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department. Evening and weekend work may be required based on the needs of the organization. This position is a hybrid of remote work as well as field-based at clinics.
 
The Veterinary Wellness Program provides veterinary services to the pets of the unhoused, those in transitional housing, and very low-income San Mateo County residents who are receiving services from San Mateo County. This position works with San Mateo County Health and cross collaborates with other programs within the County. Technical expertise, as well as knowledge of veterinary public health practices, are preferred.
 
San Mateo County is unique in that most of our homeless shelters allow residents to bring their pets with them, not just an emotional support or service animal. One of the barriers for homeless people to get into a shelter with their pets is that their pet must be current on their vaccinations. Within 10 days of a new resident moving into a shelter with a pet, the County veterinarian will meet with the owner and their pet to provide a general exam, the necessary vaccinations and flea control. This position will visit various sites throughout the County on a regular basis, providing vaccines, flea control, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and general exams. In addition, the Veterinarian will travel to various homeless encampments to provide these services and to offer and encourage spaying and neutering of the pets.
 
When pets need additional care, this position will coordinate with local veterinary clinics we contract with for services. These contracts allow us to provide spay and neuter services, dental services, and many other procedures that the pet owner would not otherwise be able to afford. These vital veterinary services keep pets from being relinquished to animal shelters and provides peace of mind for the pet owner. In addition, our veterinary program partners with our Street Medicine Program to provide health care services to the pet owners, which advances San Mateo County’s One Health Concept.
 
This Veterinarian position will be providing technical/subject matter expertise on issues relating to the spread of zoonotic, epizootic, and exotic diseases, as well as consulting on cases of rabies in domestic and wild animals. The position will also act as a liaison between the veterinary community, Veterinary Public Health, California Department of Public Health, and residents of the County.
 
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide lead direction to staff responsible for following prescribed treatment and maintaining treatment records for animals treated.
• Ensure that the highest level of service and care are provided and that changes in animals’ conditions are recorded and properly addressed.
• Examine and evaluate animals, and perform veterinary medical treatments, including vaccinations and preventative treatment as appropriate. 
• Coordinate with local veterinarians and clinic/shelter professionals to arrange spay and neuter surgeries and medical procedures.
• Arrange for care at a contracted veterinary hospital for severely injured, sick or diseased animals and provides full orders for care.
• Establishes and maintains medical records and drug use logs to standards of veterinary practices.
• Ensure that records are in order and complete and prepare written reports as needed; ensures that all State and Federal laws, regulations, accepted standards, are adhered to. 
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of shelter animal health protocols, surgical procedures, and companion animal health issues.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with the staff, community, local veterinarians, State Veterinarian. 
• Assist in the monitoring of inventory and ordering of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
• Serve as technical/subject matter expert to answer questions from the County Health Officer, medical community and the general public regarding issues related to/involving animals—including but not limited to researching, recommending, implementing and/or maintaining measures to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases, epizootic diseases, exotic diseases and disease outbreaks. 
• Serve as a consultant in suspect cases of rabies in domestic and wild animals as well as complex issues deriving from animal bites.
• Review pertinent legislation, regulations, and policies to provide recommendations, especially with regards to vaccination of domestic animals, rabies vaccine exemptions, quarantine/euthanasia of animals exposed to rabies.
• Disseminate relevant information to the local veterinary community as well as to residents of the county. 
• Assist with emergencies and disaster services.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 
Ideal candidate will possess:
•       Experience working one – two years as a Veterinarian.

• Experience in diagnosing and treating disease, illness, and injuries of dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals. 
• Ability to test animals for disease and administer vaccines.
• Ability to evaluate condition and coordinate maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Ability to help ensure the safe storage, access, and use of medications.
• Ability to develop and provide guidance on sanitary protocols, feeding, preventative medicine, and general care to promote the health of all animals.
• Ability to research and prepare medical reports for guidance of management upon request.
• Ability to write grant proposals for funding.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and residents of the community.
• Attend meetings and other meetings as requested or required.
• Obtain continuing education as required and be committed to staying up-to-date technically with industry best practices and applying learned knowledge.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with partner and contract providers.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

 

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

• Veterinarian license to practice in the State of California
• California class C driver license or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a good driving record.

The Burlingame Public Library is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Special Collections Intern to assist with the assessment, development, and strategic planning of the Library’s Special Collections. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct an inventory and condition assessment of selected Special Collections materials

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Deputy General Manager of Bus, the Bus Transit division, contributes to the mission of Golden Gate Transit by ensuring that Golden Gate Transit has the best possible trained Bus Operators. This position will monitor Bus Operator instructors, including observing the road operations to ensure adherence to Operating and Safety Policy and Procedures; monitor Bus Operators for safe operations of vehicles, uniform compliance; and enforcement of District rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. It will also monitor and document Bus Operator Students’ performance, responds to and investigate accidents.
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Oversees training classes for newly hired bus operators, including obstacle course, classroom and “over the road” instruction by delivering standardized curriculum.
• Monitors classroom curriculum, including itinerary, lesson plans, training and testing materials and implement training for newly hired and existing bus operators and for other bus training requirements.
• Oversees the following training: 
  1. Refresher training for bus operators returning to work after extended absence. 
  2. Verification of Transit Training Classes for existing bus operators and other commercially licensed employees who need to maintain V.T.T. status. 
  3. Re-train bus operators as directed by disciplinary hearings on accidents or rule violations. 
  4. Trains Driver Instructors and Transportation Supervisors on new equipment and provide them with outlines and checklists. 
  5. ADA training for persons with disabilities in partnership with passenger relations and planning department. 
• Acts as designated D.M.V. examiner in the testing and certification of bus operators and/or coordinates with D.M.V. to get student operators V.T.T. cards and license conversations.
• Ensures maintenance of complete and accurate documentation on every facet of training and testing for each student as required and mandated by state and federal governments.
• Monitors progressive trainees and performs regular individual coaching/counseling and progress evaluations of student operators. 
• Provides training and guidance as well as work assignments to Driver Training Instructors
• Supervises Bus Operators fitness -for -duty as they report to work, including observing for divergencies from normal behavior patterns, uniform appearance, grooming and possessions of driving credentials and medical card.
• Works with the Director of Transit Training and Safety on compliance with D.O.E., D.O.T., and D.M.V. training and documentation requirements
• Prepares and/or attends D.M.V. or CHP audits.
• Handles terminations and separations of trainees who fail to meet minimum standards during the program.
• Coordinates local Bus Roadeos, represents GGT as necessary and assist in the structure and the presentation of the annual Regional Bus Roadeo
• Instructs and monitors operations of G.F.I farebox and radio systems.
• Performs driver safety observations by riding on board buses or observing from a moving vehicle or fixed location and provide written reports on these observations. 
• Issues infractions for violations of safety policy and procedures as well as testifies on training or related fields at bus operator hearings, arbitrations, or trials. 
• Ensure employees under their supervision follow established safe work practices and obey all safety rules.
• Assists in collision investigations as required or requested.
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors, and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance are required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience equivalent to:

• Bachelor’s degree in transportation studies, public administration, education, or related field. Additional qualifying position-related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of the education requirement.
• Position requires a minimum of five-years commercial driving experience as an inter-city transit Full Time Bus Operator.
• In addition, must have two-years of classroom training and/or instruction experience and three-years supervisory experience that includes staffing, counseling, coaching, training, motivating and disciplining others. 
• Must have intermediate and proficient computer skills. including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Power Point. Computer aided dispatching software experience is preferred.
• Experience in traffic collision investigation and or safety enforcement is preferred. 
• Experience as a Transit Transportation Supervisor is desirable.
• Must be available to work weekends and nights. 

The Public Works Maintenance Superintendent (Streets) is a management-level role within the Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for overseeing the operation of construction and maintenance equipment, street and sidewalk repairs, street drainage system maintenance, and graffiti abatement.

How to qualify

Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND

Experience: Four (4) years of experience managing a section with oversight of contract negotiation, administration, operation, or compliance within a large organization, all of which includes experience supervising professionals.

Substitution:

1. Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.

What You’ll Do

• Install, maintain, repair and research a variety of supervisory controls and replacement electrical components that are part of advanced wastewater treatment processes such as aeration, filtration, disinfection and dichlorination, sludge dewatering, odor control, and an environmental laboratory.
• Perform wiring required for the installation of electronic equipment; electrical conductors in conduits; splice high and low voltage cables utilizing hand taping and pre- molded splice kits.
• Design, install, maintain, repair, test and construct electrical assemblies.
• Troubleshoot plant electrical systems, controls and related process equipment. Provide technical support for other work groups within Public Works.
• Specify, install, program, and repair various types of variable frequency motor drive systems.
• Fabricate, maintain, install, service, and calculate power load distributions to various motors and related equipment.
• Install and repair programmable logic controllers and install related hardware and software for control systems in conjunction with controls technician.
• Maintain and repair automatic control valves and associated control functions.
• Implement preventive maintenance and repair on motors from fractional to over 400 horsepower. Record and calculate current requirements for new electrical installations.
• Troubleshoot, perform inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs on industrial switchgear and high voltage equipment such as transformers, breakers, circuits, switches, relays, regulators and distribution panels.
• Specify, install, and inspect various types of conduit; isolate breakers and switches for major repairs; coordinate repairs and scheduled outages with operations staff.
• Conduct surveys to gather field data.
• Use aerial lifts, scaffolding and ladders.
• Prepare requisitions and associated documents for purchase of repair parts and supplies.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and associated costs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The WWTP Electrical Technician receives general supervision from the WWTP Maintenance Superintendent or higher level personnel and exercises technical and functional supervision over assigned technical and maintenance personnel.
